Diablo 3

Ah thanks.
I screwed my artisan though.
I didn't realize that there was a bit of a learning tree with the things you selected to train him in so I just clicked whatever when upgrading him and most of what is unlocked doesn't do my Barb any good.
Anyways apart from making relics for my companions I haven't crafted anything worthwhile with Haedrig, nothing that I can't find of greater quality by farming.

Diablo III patches 2.1.2 and ends season one

There's a lot happening around the rainbow-and-glitter landscapes of Diablo III, although perhaps the biggest is the implementation of Patch 2.1.2 to the game. This patch adds in powerful ancient items, increases the drop rate for legendary items, and gives players more survivability with additional life and higher life-on-hit percentages.

As Diablo III ushers in the patch, so it too prepares to say goodbye to the first season. The game is preparing to end season one and has posted a guide to aid players as they make the transition to the limbo that exists before season two. Season one is expected to end some time in early February, possibly February 3rd.

Players on both the PC and consoles soon will enjoy an event full of boosts, including additional treasure goblins and higher drop rates. These boosts will begin tomorrow and continue through Friday, January 23rd.

  • Diablo 3's third season starts next month

  • Diablo 3 desperately wants you to keep playing it, and to that end Blizzard have been running a couple of 'seasons' full of challenges, conquests and of course loot. They've just announced that the second is about to end, on April 5th. Wasting no time, they've also announced that season 3 is set to start on April 10th, taking the time to note, in explicit detail, which of your rewards will carry over.
It's basically everything, except the rewards for Conquests, which aren't available for regular heroes (although "your mighty deeds will still be chronicled in the Records page of your profile for you to view at any time!" - yeah cheers Blizzard). Seasonal heroes created for season 2 will be converted to regular ol' Normal or Hardcore heroes, while the seasonal leaderboards will be wiped. There's a lot more detail at that link above.
Season 3 will kick off on April 10th, giving you five days to ruminate on your accomplishments before the whole vicious cycle begins anew. It's likely that the teased patch 2.2.0 will be implemented during this downtime, so that it's ready and in place before the new season begins. (Thanks, Blue's News.)

Diablo 3 : Cowpocalypse MOOving Into the Game World

Posted May 14, 2015

While Blizzard is moovelous at debunking the constant moomurs of a Diablo 3 SECRET COW LEVEL, it appears that the bovine denizens of Khanduras beg to differ. From May 15th through May 21st, players are encouraged to moove into the game to try to discover whether this is udder nonsense or if there is something to these moovelous rumoors.
From dawn on May 15 to dusk on May 21, it is also recommended that you avoid entering any strange portals that may or may not lead to alternate planes of existence. This activity cud be potentially hazardous to your health and, in the opinion of this humble civil servant, is a veally bad idea in general.

Diablo 3 : Preview - Adventure Mode

Posted Aug 04, 2015

The 2.3 patch to Diablo III will be bringing big changes into the game. In the latest preview of some of the larger pieces of the game to undergo the developer "knife", adventure mode is in the spotlight.
To begin with, crafting has been slimmed down, both in terms of the number of reagents needed to craft items and in the number of recipes to which each crafter has access. The driving force, according to the team, is to make all materials viable for crafting across the levels and to make created items more meaningful and useful.
Bounties will only be available in one act at a time. Once completed, a new bounty in another act will appear and continue to do so as long as players are in a game and even repeat at times. Devs want players to cease having to exit the game and restart simply for a chance at an act-specific bounty.
The Realm of Trials has been removed and the following changes are in place for both Greater and Nephalim Rifts:
Let’s start with the biggest change that you asked for: the Realm of Trials has been removed from the game. To accommodate this huge change, we’ve reduced the number of Greater Rift keys down to a single, universal type. These new keys are used at the Nephalem Obelisk to enter any level Greater Rift, up to one higher than the highest level you have previously completed (though if you totally crush a Greater Rift, you can still move up to 3 ranks at a time). In addition, we’ve removed Rift Fragments from the game. Nephalem Rifts are now open to players of all levels and difficulty, requiring no special key to access.
Infernal Machines do not have to be crafted any more and the recipes have been removed. Hellfire amulets, when crafted, will have a guaranteed socket.

Diablo 3 : Patch 2.3.0 Now Live in the Americas

Posted Aug 25, 2015

Blizzard has announced that the Americas servers have been patched with the massive v2.3.0 update for Diablo 3 is now live.
The patch brings a new adventure mode area called Ruins of Sescheron, new gear, the Kanai's Cube, class updates and the new "season journey".
Kanai's Cube:

  • Extract Legendary Power: Destroy an item to add its Legendary power to your catalogue of collected powers. Once a power has been extracted, it can be equipped to your character without the need to equip the item. Players may have one Weapon, one Armor, and one Jewelry power equipped at a time. Players may only equip powers from items that their characters can normally equip and use.
  • Reforge a Legendary Item: Completely re-rolls a Legendary item as though it had dropped for the first time. This includes any powers that may have been previously enchanted on the item. Note that reforged items may re-roll as either Ancient or non-Ancient, so reforge at your own discretion!
  • Upgrade Rare Item: Upgrades the quality of a level 70 Rare item to Legendary. This item will roll as a randomized Legendary that shares that item's equipment type.
  • Convert Set Item: Converts a Set item to a randomized piece of gear from the same Set. For example, if you convert a pair of Asheara's Finders, you could get Asheara's Custodian, Asheara's Pace, or Asheara's Ward in return.
  • Remove Level Requirement: Removes the level requirement from an item, allowing it to be equipped by a character of any level.
  • Convert Gems: Converts 9 of any color gem to 9 of any other color.
  • Convert Crafting Materials: Converts 100 normal, magic, or rare Crafting Materials to 100 of another type of non-legendary Crafting Material
The full update notes have been published on the Diablo 3 site as well as an overview video that you can check out below.

Diablo 3 : Latest Update is a Game-Changer (in a Good Way!)

Posted Aug 31, 2015

There is no question that Diablo 3 has undergone a metamorphosis since launching in December of 2012. Not long after launch, Game Director Jay Wilson left the project to go work on other Blizzard titles. The Reaper of Souls expansion brought big changes from a lore and story perspective and more, smaller changes have gone into place over the intervening three years to make D3 nearly unrecognizable from what it was when released. Fast forward to today, and we have the recent deployment of the v2.3.0 patch that is the largest to date and one that is packed with a new location, a new season tracker and Kanai’s Cube, a modernized version of Diablo 2’s Horadric Cube. What it all comes down to is that this is the meatiest, game experience patches in D3’s history, short of the RoS expansion itself.
Read more of Suzie Ford's Diablo 3: Latest Update is a Game-Changer (in a Good Way!).
There are several key features in the update that fans will find particularly compelling. Let’s take a look.
[YT]-gRsRqP2JKg[/YT]

Sescheron Ruins & Kanai’s Cube
During Adventure Mode, players will run into their old pal Zultan Kulle who gleefully lets them know that he’s “still here”. While interaction with Kulle is pretty limited in a conversational way, he does let players know that they should go to the destroyed Barbarian capital of Sescheron to look for the fabled Kanai’s Cube. Sescheron was obliterated along with all of its inhabitants during the events that took place during Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. While there, players will run into the souls of the slain Barbarians who mournfully proclaim their lack of rest due to the destruction of Mount Arreat.
The ruins are filled with new tough monsters that are recolors of other enemies throughout D3 but with a few notable new ones that can, for instance, hurl gigantic snowballs that will one shot an unwary adventurer. In addition, some pretty rough traps can take out unwitting players as well. It’s worth taking one’s time to venture through the city to avoid the insta-gib.
After a series of chapters in the overall quest, players will pick up Kanai’s Cube, arguably the most interesting part of 2.3.0, and will drag it home to Kulle who pretty much says nothing of any import, though the cube has a series of “recipes” that players can work through to utilize it to its fullest.
After experimenting around with it for awhile, I managed to create a pair of items from the new Witch Doctor set that looks like it will be a great one to try out. The best part is that it took three different (low level) crafting reagents and a normal ‘rare’ (yellow) item. Hit transmute and, BOOM! If you’re lucky, a new legendary or set item will appear. It sure beats the grind, though it could reasonably be said that “cubing” is its own grind. The only drawback to the cube is the necessity of hauling the materials in inventory to place them inside and, of course, the cube is nowhere near one’s stash….a minor inconvenience but a noticeable one.
2-3Update_t.jpg

Kanai’s has a metric ton of other features from extracting legendary affixes; converting set items from one to another from the same set; reforging of legendaries; converting gems or other crafting materials and the removal of level requirements.
Blizzard has never explicitly said that these are the only recipes that Kanai’s is good for and I certainly hope not. Over time, it’s a given that rabid fans will utilize trial and error to at least attempt to find new ways or things to create.
Other Points of Interest
There are a lot of seemingly small things that collectively add up to something big in terms of major improvements to a player’s quality of life. Here are just a few of the most noticeable:

  • rift keys, whether normal or greater, are unified into a single key without the necessity of the Realm of Trials
  • bounties are much more lucrative and can drop recipes, legendary or set items, rare crafting materials, blood shards and more. In addition, bonus bounties will reward two caches, though there is only one bonus per game
  • crafting legendary or set items will require act-specific materials rather than the general ‘forgotten soul’ and low level crafting materials have been removed completely
  • rare mobs and bosses now deal reduced damage
  • a seasonal character tracker has been added
  • new sets have been added for Witch Doctor, Crusader and Monk classes
  • three new difficulty modes have been added: Torment VII-X, each with a Paragon level requirement to participate
Of course, there are a number of smaller, yet also important fixes, enhancements, updates and class balance improvements, each of which contributes to the real sense of this patch’s significance to the longevity of Diablo 3. To say that v2.3.0 is a game changer is certainly no overstatement.
2-3Update-2_t.jpg

What it all comes down to is that this patch breathes new life into the game and even more interest in finding that piece of gear that will perfect a character. It's a given that this is precisely what Diablo 3 is: a gear grind with the ever-present carrot on a stick of something that is that much better, that much stronger, that much more powerful. The new area and the promise of cube creations that will fulfill this hope with enough patience is guaranteed to keep fans coming back for more for a long, long while.
Have you tried out 2.3? If so, what do you think? Leave us your thoughts in the comments!

Diablo 3 : AMA Dev Reddit - Gold Sinks, Set Updates & Cube Recipes

Posted Sep 04, 2015

The Diablo 3 team took to Reddit yesterday for an AMA about the recently released 2.3.0 patch and some questions about the future of the game as well.
Notable topics included bringing in a useful and desirable gold sink, item set upgrades and whether or not there are secret cube recipes yet to be discovered.
One item of particular interest is the update to Demon Hunters that would essentially give them a viable melee option. According to Richie Marella about update 2.4:
The Shadow's Mantle set is the redesign that I'm the most excited about for 2.4 so far. The idea of a melee-weapon oriented build that doesn't involve bows/xbows has always been in the back of my mind. Here's what it currently looks like:
2pc While equipped with a melee weapon, all damage is increased by 1000%. 4pc Shadow Power gains all runes and lasts forever. 6pc Impale deals 30000% weapon damage to the first enemy it hits.
The idea is that the set is extremely strong on single-target damage, but weak on AoE. To help with that, a new dagger will have the power "Every second, the damage of your next Fan of Knives is increased by 250-300%." To help with movement, a pair of bracers has the power "After using Impale, Vault costs no resource for 2 seconds." That item will allow you to Vault into position to Impale the high-value targets.
Additionally, we're also allowing Demon Hunters to use melee weapons with quivers because the fantasy of this quick-moving assassin build is about speed, not walking around with a shield ;)

Diablo 3 : Art Director Sought for Unannounced Diablo Product

Posted Oct 05, 2015

It seems that Diablo III fans have a lot to look forward to in next month's Blizzcon as it appears a new franchise expansion or title is going to be announced.
The Blizzard jobs page has been updated with an advertisement for an Art Director for an "unannounced project" in the Diablo series and that the idea candidate should have "a passion for games with a deep understanding of the Diablo franchise".
Whether or not the position is for an expansion for Diablo 3 or for something along the lines of Diablo IV remains to be seen, though the former is more likely.
What do you think will be announced at Blizzcon? Expansion or new game? Leave us your thoughts.

Diablo 3 : Tidbits & Teases - Leah, Cain & the Cube

Posted Oct 05, 2015

Blizzard is pretty cagey when it comes to the release of information about its games but we managed to corner the team behind Diablo III to find out a few interesting tidbits of information about the game's lore and the recently released Kanai's Cube.
Read more of Suzie Ford's Diablo III: Teases & Tidbits - Leah, Cain & the Cube. (Potential spoilers! Readers beware!)
SPOILER ALERT: While D3 is not a new game, there are a couple of big elements of the game that are discussed here that are part of the game play experience. If you haven't played Diablo III and plan to, it's best to back away slowly right now.
You have been warned!

Diablo III
There is an element of the ARPG community that believes that this type of game has no actual lore, a fact with which I differ. After all, Diablo III had a good bit of lore behind it that included historical information about what had happened to Tristram since its fall years before during the events of Diablo I. We learned what had happened to some of the town's most famous residents and ran into the likes of Adria (I still hate her....) and Deckard Cain along with lesser-known folk like poor Farnham the drunk.
We also were treated to learning much more about the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, the connections between the two and about the fact that bad isn't always bad any more than good always means good. Angels were cast in a new light as being much more ambiguous in their purity than once believed. We learned that Angels and Demons can form alliances and can even find love as in the case of Inarius and Lilith, a bond that foreshadows potential story elements in future games.
Cain_t.jpg

What it comes down to is that lore is as important to Diablo III as it is to any RPG, so much so that it was no small feat for the team to kill off Deckard Cain in the very first act of the game. To say that I sat there stunned after the events unraveled before me is to understate the situation dramatically. Ever since, I'd wondered how someone so integral to the story behind the entire series could be so summarily removed.
MMORPG: Why was the decision made to kill off Cain, clearly one of the IP's most iconic characters?
D3 Team: We went back and forth about whether Cain needed to die as part of the Diablo III story, and while we believe we could have executed it (and him) better, we felt that his demise was inevitable, considering how much he had done throughout the series to thwart the demons’ plans. Ultimately, the Diablo series chronicles the rise of humanity. Angels and Demons fought in the Eternal Conflict and so often humans were caught in the middle. In Diablo III and Reaper of Souls, in no small part due to the actions of the player, humanity finds its place. However, many people died so that humanity could make that final breakthrough. Cain gave his life in pursuit of this cause. Your hero avenged his death and ultimately defeated Diablo, saving Sanctuary in the process. We believe Deckard would have been proud.
While there is a part of me that absolutely sees the reasoning behind Cain's death, the shock of it still echoes in my head every time I play. Let's not forget too that Cain's death was not the only tragic one in the game. While Leah came on in D3 as a new character, she quickly became part of the overall lore, a human caught in monstrous circumstances, betrayed by her mother, Adria, who seemed genuinely concerned for her throughout the game until the catastrophic moments during the intermission between Acts III and IV. While we eventually avenged the treachery in Reaper of Souls, the innocent in all of these catastrophic events, Leah, becomes another character about whom I wonder. Why her? Is it really the end of her story?
Leah_t.jpg

Covetous Shen, the game's Jeweler, reveals some thought-provoking information on this score:
Covetous Shen: Do you think that Leah is lost forever?
Player: Diablo consumed her. She is gone.
Covetous Shen: Do you not think Leah's soul is stronger than that? But, oh, but then sometimes I-I forget that you have not seen everything that I have seen.
When asked about Leah's potential return to the story, Blizzard devs chose to keep that answer to themselves but based on the above, it seems very possible that we will learn much more about Leah's ultimate fate in the future -- after all, she is the only one uniquely qualified to step into the shoes of her uncle, Deckard Cain.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls also brought in two pieces of lore that are firmly trenched in past games, one a location from the past, the other a part of lore updated for a new age.
Sescheron_t.jpg

In the latest D3: RoS update, Sescheron, the Barbarian city crushed by Baal in Diablo II, was added to the game as a new playable location complete with new monsters and lore. Is it possible that, like Tristram and Sescheron, we'll see even more locations from the past brought back in future games or expansions?
MMORPG: You brought back the D2 Barbarian story of Kanai and the fall of Sescheron. Any further plans to revisit other locations from the first two games?
D3 Team: Sescheron came out of a love of the first two games and a desire to find angles to explore unanswered questions that we and other players have about the Diablo series’ rich history. We don’t have any announcements to make regarding new zones today, but that desire to explore answers to more questions is always with us.
KanaisCube_t.jpg

Lastly, a magical cube re-entered Diablo 3 with the most recent update, Kanai's Cube, a clear if not more powerful update to the Horadric Cube from Diablo 3. With it, players can extract useful passives from legendary items, recreate set items from others not needed and much more. While all recipes appear to be known at this time, the potential is there for more.
MMORPG: Will you be adding more Cube recipes over time?
D3 Team: Kanai’s Cube is very popular and we are always looking for ways to improve our features. If a good opportunity to add a recipe comes up and it’s something that players want and will use, we will look at it for sure.
What do all of these seemingly random things mean for the future of the series? Each represents the fact that the Diablo series is allive and well. The team is clearly looking ahead to providing even more for players and fans. Let's hope Blizzcon reveals something fantastic.
Where would you like the series to go? Expansion or new game? What more would you like to know from a lore perspective? Leave us your thoughts in the comments.
Editor's Note: After the writing of this article, Blizzard's site has been updated with an advertisement seeking an Art Director for an as-yet unnamed Diablo project. Whether it means expansion or D4 remains to be seen, but it definitely makes Blizzcon much more interesting for franchise fans!

Diablo 3 : Happy 19th Anniversary to the One that Started It All!

Posted Dec 31, 2015

It was on this day in 1996 that we first learned the travails of Tristram and the danger it faced from one of the Prime Evils, Diablo!
I don't know about you, but Diablo was my gateway into online gaming and into this industry all those years ago. I remember playing it religiously everyday hoping for an Obsidian Plate of the Whale and an Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac.
My favorite memory is 'friendly fire' in the Catacombs underneath Tristram. My partners would go through one door and I through another, all of us firing off Chain Lightning and at least one of us dying, spewing gear across the floor and then the frantic corpse run hoping that the servers wouldn't crash.
What about those heady solo days? I'd descend into Hell levels only to find yellow orb shooting Hell Spawn...die and lose risking it all if unable to live long enough to pick stuff up. Looking hysterically online for a guild member to help out...buying crappy gear to try to get back to lost gear.
Oh! And gold piles in the city center.
Ah the good old days, right?
Did you play Diablo? What are your favorite memories?
