Now, I visited the boards back in 2004, but only for like spoiler or picture threads on Spider-Man 2. I got an account in September of that year, obviously. But even today, I don't see people complaining about Ock being a nicer, happily married person who is almost like a mentor to Peter, and having arms created for the whole mini sun, and Tentacles that eventually gain control of him, and talk to him because they're so intelligent.
Big changes from the comic book. =\ Right?
So what about Venom, Sandman and New Goblin? People complain that Sandman's origin and motives are all changed, Venom's not a hulk of Symbiotic muscle, and New Goblin's costume.
As for NG's costume, understood. I like it, it looks really cool, but just not cool enough for a "Goblin". I didn't want to see him wearing his father's outfit, but something newer. However, it didn't look stupid to me, and the character was done well. But for Venom and Sandy, why do people seem to hate on that? To me, doing what they did to Ock was like a big change. I liked it, but it's completely different. To me, movie adaptations of comic books never have the SAME character. I can't recall seeing one that's a copy of the source material. It's like they try to do something new for a fresh take, and tie it into the plot for a fit. And I like that. It's done all the time.
Is it that some people just happen to LIKE the character's story ideas? And for Spider-Man 3 some people didn't like that take? I'm curious. I can understand why some are disappointed with Venom. Poor guy. He died fast. That angers me too. I will say, everytime I watch it I like him more. I like the take on the character.
But screen time aside, I guess it was the character, or the un-hulk muscles, or Topher's acting abilities that people don't like. I suppose it's not the origin. -_-
So it's really just a luck thing? They make something new, people either like it or dislike it.
I kinda just went on and on up there. =\ But anyway, that's all. xD
