Superman Returns Did Lex's plan make sense to anyone?

But when a new continent appears suddenly in the ocean, and a single man tells you that he created/owns it, wouldn't it occur to someone (especially given the fact that L.L. was well known as a criminal who had been sentenced to TWO life sentences?) that he was responsible for the deaths of a billion people?

Of course it would, and then the whole world would unite against him. Alien technology or not, people wouldn't voluntarily sign on to live under his rule on a sharp, black island.

No way.:down

They would if that was all that was left. The island was still growing, he had other crystals with the sum knowledge of 28 or so galaxies and would probably find a way to duplicate the process with his theory being that if Superman even survived the world would be poison to him. But like always he underestimated Superman's selflessness.

Well that was a huge problem right there!

The first time, he just landed on the Kryptonite-Laced Island, and he was so weakened that he was susceptible to a punch from a HUMAN!

Later on, glowing green Kryptonite was actually shown all around him, right next to his hands, and yet he "suddenly" had the power to fly a continent into space!

Sorry, no way around it. It was ******ed.:down

Did you not pay attention to the part where he absorbed the suns rays beforehand?

On top of the island the exposed kryptonite was weakening him, underneath, protected by miles of bedrock he was fine until that last scene where it was shown that the island was still growing, and fast. He was pretty much out of Earth's atmosphere by that time.

I payed attention, but I thought it was lame. It was just a flimsy excuse, not good story telling.
It didn't suspend my disbelief, let's just put it that way.

DUDE! Watch it again.
I just saw it.
When he gets to the surface, it's all black.
There is NO indication of Kryptonite. If there WAS, he would've taken off to re-think an attack!
It was just "IN there".

But when he's flying it up to space, the Kryptonite-S*** is literally oozing all over his HANDS!

It's just bad story-telling.:down

The island's surfaced was fused with kryptonite you could see it glowing there. Remember Luthor says that the crystal's take on the attributes of the surrounding minerals. The bedrock itself was just normal rock and earth. Superman had enough strength or will power to ignore the small amount that was coming through even though it did put him in a coma. And as for the recharging scene, well that's how his powers have worked for decades. The more yellow sun he gets the more powerful he becomes.

Reading the various justifications for this films plot holes is depressing. These are truely a testament to how delusional this lot of people has become.

Lex says this "ALL GROWN" the technology would be grown the houses grown everything grown every thing would look like Superman's FOS(but green). superman stop him before the island was completed.

and again how can anyone praise both Spider-man 's plots( great movies by the way i own both on DVD) and "dog out" superman? Thier plots are just as crazy as this movie. by the way i truely enjoyed SR both times i saw it...thx:) norm

But these are not justifications made from thin air or made up facts. They are just simple common sense reasons that most people can pick up on during the film. Does everything have to be spelled out. If I and other people could understand this during the film why can't everyone else, it was pretty obvious.

I...feel like, you read my mind and then posted.
(except I would've spelled "truly" correctly, but whatever.:o)

i don't mean to "attack" any movie but you cry about how Superman should not be able the lit up NK but its okay for Spider-Man to stop a moving train go over 60 miles of hour fulled with people or he can fall from roof top level and just say " my back" give me a break. I'm not bashing the movie i enjoy both Spider-Man movies

you're all missing the point.

Lex raised that continent not because that was the only way, or the fastest way or most efficient way to dominate Earth but simply because he WANTED to do it.

it's a tribute to his meglamania. there 1000000000 ways he could become the most powerful man using Kryptonian technology. he could probably have just constructed a single battleship if he wanted and nuked/razed all the capitals of the world.

but he didn't want to do that. listen to his story of prometheus. the IDEA of him RAISING an entire continent in his own image is something only a God could do. he says he doesn't want to be a God but if you're older than 10 he's obviously lying. not only does he want to be a God, he wants to be the god who kills all the other gods... as prometheus was threatening to do by spreading knowledge to humans.

there's many crude ways lex could have dominated the world but it had to meet 2 criteria: 1)dominate world 2)make the point that Lex is the greatest being on earth

secondarily, but importantly, the entire continent was laced with kryptonite. it's not explicitly stated but Lex is too smart to think... like the unwashed masses do... that superman is gone. A guy like Lex plans for all the contingencies and a kryptonite contient is the ultimate Superman contingency. the most advanced, wealthy and populous contient in the world dominated by lex... superman free

dont get me wrong. this movie sucks considering all the things they could have done with a superman movie. but lex's plan is not the problem in this movie. it's grandious, elaborate and crazy on a huge scale... perfect supervillian plan

personally its a revamp of real estate scam
with the evolving luthor, i would have perferred to see him reformed and the head of a major corp and build on the whole president luthor plot that could take place over a 3 movie period

Can't fly to it? He freaking lifted the said island up in the air and threw it away in space. What protection?
hello*knock knock* someone in there? Island, embbed in normal bedrock ,superman lifts bedrock, Kryptonite blocked by bedrock except in the last few seconds when the continent grew through it?

Sheesh what's so hard to get about that? I was absolutely obvious in the movie but bet for a lot of people on this thread it would have to be an inner monologe by supes" I must get rid of New Krypton but how? Yes I will fly underneath it and simple lift up the continent with tons of bedrock between the Kryptonite and me, that will keep the effect of K away from me"

QUESTION : did doc ock's or the green goblin's master plan make any sense???

and NO I'm not trashing Spider-Man just a qustion thats all

And what would the whole world do? throw rocks at him? Cause that is the only thing they would have been cabable of after Lex would have driven his plan into full gear.

Don't ask me, some people are just too daft to get such a thing when it's not spoon fed to them.
