Superman Returns Did Lex's plan make sense to anyone?

Kane said:
Wrong.

If it wasnt for Supes the plan would have actually worked. Lex even escaped...well sorta. Superman saved the earth but didnt capture him.

I duno, I'd rather see Lex as more of a tyrannical terrorist that he was in SR than the business man (which the DCAU already did)...

This was a brand new Luthor for me. He had the instability and humor of the precrisis....but definately the repressed evil and sadistic nature of the post.

He definately let go of his restraints in the confrontation with Supes.

The flaw was you never got to see the technology in action, and a small sea plane was able to fly onto the "island".

Give me the tyrannical business version any day.

Personally, I found his "blow up California" plan to be much more menacing. It's high time Lex came up with an evil plot that doesn't involve land.

Oh no, "Kryptonian technology" is becoming the answer to everything. Much like with anything we don't understand in Star Wars: "TEH FORCE!!!!!"

Lex's plan changed when he realized Superman had returned. In the beginning, it was all about acceptance (from the world, mankind), money, and land.

Once Superman arrived, it was revenge. Hence the reason he laced the landmass in Kryptonite.

Lex's plan was all about greed. It gave me the sense that while he was in jail his greed grew way out of proportions which drove him to madness.

The island was still forming. Thats why Lex and friends were just waiting around and killing time.

The 'billions' hadnt started dying yet.

He wanted his revenge on Superman first and he knew Superman would come to him.

It has been revealed today that Lex Luthor's evil plan in Superman Returns 2 is to throw a bag of Dog poop (opps.....kryptoniiiiiiite laced dog poop) on fire through Superman's window and laugh as he gets poop on his boot when he stomps it out

Obviously this is Lex's most diaboloical evil plan ever and makes perfect sense. If you don't see it you're just a hater

Ya, now youre just trolling/flaming.

Or you can just lighten up and see it as a joke. I know the Superman forum is void of humor...but try really hard.

...Matt still will have not seen the movie...

Just haven't gotten around to it yet. See, some people's lives can't stop because of a movie coming out.

Ya. Complaining on a message board is much more important

Sure, I can do that from my lap top in my office, for 20 minutes. Big difference in seeing a 3 hour movie.

Greed and revenge is the plot of Luthor's plan....

When Kitty asked Luthor is millions will actually die, Spacey's acting told the audience what Luthor really wanted.

I thought the idea itself could've worked. Lex fashions his own kingdom on Earth, destroying any around him and forcing people to come to him for help. He could've ended up taking over, and with the technology, he could destroy anyone who tried to stop him. Then there's the fact that the crystals respond to the minerals around them, so who knows what other lands could've been grown with certain minerals.

Now his motivation was ridiculous. Why do it to make money and sell land instead of wanting to be greater than Superman and having the worship of the people? Instead of pure arrogance and xenophobia, it's xenophobia and greed.

Yeah, I'm one of those people.

I won't be seeing SR until tomorrow:(

The movie could have benefitted from a serious dose of Sean Connery from The Rock in regards to Lex Luthor and his grand scheme:

"Lex, what you intend to do is an act of lunacy...Personally I think you're a ****ing idiot."

How? He couldn't even stop Richard from landing near the island, how could he stop an army from invading? Everyone says he has advanced technology, but what can he do besides grow land? Did he have any weapons? What? Why didn't he use them? What defense did he have? Anything?

People just keep saying "Oh, he has advanced technology" but what?? All I saw was that he can grow land. And I don't see how that would stop people from coming after him.

:supes: We didn't see what Lex learned from the fortress of solitude other than the continent building crystals. He might've known how to make a hyper death beam once the crystal fortress was complete. Those crystals seemed like they functioned as the buttons on a remote control to the FOS. Lex used the "build" crystal, and he heavily implied that he knew how to do other stuff with them. He just let his desire to kill Superman sidetrack him.

And Lex was shortsighted when he devoted a lot of his time to destroying Superman. He forgot about Batman!

I didn't get how the whole Prometheous (sp?) story fit in with Luthor's plan...

Lex said he was bringing fire to the people, yet he said he would use his alien technology to stop anyone from taking it from him.

So, isn't he like Superman?? Lex said that he considered Superman to be a god who doesn't share his power with the rest of mankind. Lex isn't sharing it either.

In a way he is. He destroys the world's economy, pulls a Fight Club and reverts everything back to point 0 but he's the with the leading technology. The fire. He'll share it if people rely on him. He's pretty much his own twisted version of Prometheus.

The land was still growing. People weren't even aware of what was going on yet. You don't hang the decorations on the christmas tree when it's still blossoming. When there is essentially no tree.

That's stupid. if Lex had the ability to grow super weapons out of nothing, he should have done it then, in case the army attacked him. Either Lex didn't have the ability to grow weapons, which would mean the plan would not make sense in the long run or he did, but was too stupid to set them up right away, which means he would have had no means of counter attack if the amry attacked right then. Hell, the only reason the army didn't attack is because of plot induced stupidity, without that Lex would have been dead. Also Lex could have used these super weapons against Superman when he came back the second time.

didn't xavier say that sharing the world wasn't one of humanity's defining attributes? So Lex'd have billions of angry people to fend off against once he destroyed their land.

good luck with that lex. ;)

I thought the potential of New Krypton was completely wasted. When I first heard about it, I thought Lex would be constructing it as a way to render Superman powerless. (Essentially, placing him in an Arctic prison as revenge.)

Instead, he just launched it a few miles off the coast. Wouldn't a trial run in the middle of nowhere have been much more logical? After all, Superman is likely the only one who would've investigated the disturbance.

Only the biggest Superman apologists could make any sense of this plan whatsoever.

Create an inhabitable rock. You have no food, no water, no place to sleep. You can't grow anything. You have no defenses against attacks from the military (which are conveniently missing). You kill billions so there goes your $$$. And even if people did survive how are they going to pay you money to live on your rock? You just sank the country dip*****. Where are these people going to get money from? I don't see any ATMs on NK. How in the hell did Singer and his writers come up with that garbage?
