Days of Future Past "Director's Cut": The Official Matthew Vaughn Thread

I think everyone's been in that situation where you have a great idea, but see it somewhere else(not exactly the same but close enough) and just end up scrapping it instead of going forward not wanting the comparisons.

Nolan himself is still sitting on "the best script he's ever written," since it's about Howard Hughes, and Scorsese had just finished The Aviator.

Automated dialogue replacement, meaning the actor goes into the studio after shooting to re-record dialogue. Obviously script changes can be made then, if the editing was really clever such that the actor could be talking while facing away from the camera. :funny:

It's just that for script changes that involve different sets and previz, that stuff has to be locked down pretty early on so you can schedule your shooting around it.

The only director who is an exception to that rule is George Lucas. For the prequels he added whole action sequences in post-production reshoots. :funny:

well i guess the astral plane is ruined for x-men franchise now. thanks alot ****ing inception. wasnt even that good a movie.

Pump the brakes, kid.

oh, well. maybe he will think of something better.

anyway the mind stuff was used in x-men 2 so it shouldn't really be out of the question. especially since they have telepaths.

Nothing to do with Inception and everything to do with a Director bottling it over ridiculous reasons. Total over-reaction from Vaughn.

I'm really gretaeful for the coincidence though, at that moment in time Nolan did Batman Begins instead of his scrapped HH script.
He could still make his HH movie someday, once he feels enough time has passed, Scorsese only focused on one section of Hughes' life(i have not seen Aviator btw, just from what i read), and i doubt Nolan's script would be focusing on that exact period.

As for the X-Men/Inception thing, yeah, i was a little peeved that he scrapped the idea, i have not seen inception, but surely it would not have been *exactly* the same, i just hope they do not go with an inferior idea just because it is different from Inception.
I always loved the psi-battle between young Xavier and and the 1st evil mutant he ever encountered in X-Men 117/Classic X-Men23, i picked that up off a newstand when getting on a train from London to Glasgow, and must've read it about twenty times on that journey.
I don't know if it would be hokey to do that kind of shape shifting thing in an astral plane on film, you would need a lot of prep time and money on the sfx for it to work out properly epic and tasteful.
but damn, I would love it if we got something like that mental showdown between Xavier and another evil mutant onscreen. I hope they do not completely scrap that idea.

Vaughn confirmed it is a prequel, doesn't confirm or deny Jean/Scott
"I have to give a lot of credit to Bryan Singer, because he came up with a very clever, very interesting way of integrating the characters into recent history — not necessarily too recent, though," Vaughn told MTV News. "I don't want to spoil it for you, but when I read the script that was around in May, I thought, 'This is a really clever idea.'"

"It just kind of worked," he continued. "How [Singer] integrated the characters into the world and the political climate of the time, it was very clever."

Still, with a multitude of fan-favorite characters dispersed throughout the first three "X-Men" movies, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and possibly the upcoming "Deadpool" movie, one has to wonder: will "First Class" fit within the existing continuity for Marvel's uncanny mutants?

"Yeah, I would say absolutely so," Vaughn responded when asked if "First Class" would be an official, in-continuity prequel to the "X-Men" movies that came before it.

"You've got Magneto and [Charles] Xavier when they first meet," he explained. "The backdrop of what's going on in the world when they first meet, it's very interesting. You see them and their relationship develop and play out with this major political event in the background."

Vaughn added that he isn't worried about the film being over-crowded with mutants and suffering the same flaws of other comic book movies that went the ensemble route.

"In terms of having a lot of mutants, it doesn't feel that busy," said the filmmaker. "I don't feel worried about it. I think it will be really cool to see all these guys doing their stuff."

"I'm very keen that it has a lot of heart, this movie," he added. "You understand where these characters have come from, and you obviously know where they're going, but to see that very important point of their lives where they're discovering their power and working out their ethical take on what to do with their power — it's a very interesting story to tell. I want it to be a very good film, and I'm working very hard to create one for you."

Oh, and for those hoping the relationship between Scott Summers (a.k.a. Cyclops) and Jean Grey gets a little more attention this time around, Vaughn plans to keep you guessing.

"I can't shed any light on that at all," he laughed when asked if the classic X-Men couple will finally get their due on the big screen without Wolverine getting in the way.

"I think that would be giving too much away," said Vaughn "You'll just have to wait and see. It's going to be worth it."

I don't think that the movie is that crowded because I think it will have a good balance between the characters. Pretty sure Scott and Jean will be in the movie, they're too big for a characters to be left out.

I have always been skeptical of First Class as reboot. This shows I am right and some reporters are making assumations when Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer compare this to Star Trek.It Is fairly obvious based on the fact Singer was looking for Cyclops and reports of the first draft Cyclops will play some role In this movie. How big remains to be seen. And If havoc Is in the film I am sure Cyclops Is In the film. And talk of major poliitcal event makes me think Sebsastan shaw Is Indeed the villian.

Since Vaughn confirmed First Class is a prequel to the first three films, I wonder what the fate of characters not seen in those films will be, such as Emma Frost. I don't know if they'll die, be written off, or simply take their own paths in life. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

I think Emma and Havoc are introduced here to be used on a possible X4.

Im SURE Bryan and co. have thought about it.

We know from Earlier this year Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuller Donnor have discussed a
X4.It Is possable after Wolverine 2 and Singer finishes jack the Giant Killer they may move forward with X4.First Class presents them with opportunity to Introduce characters and have older versions In X4.

And matthew vaughn should be apprecated as someone doing new things with established history and not doing the easy way and just Ignoring history.Maybe others will finally wake up and realize that Is a franchise film doesn't 100 percent live to everyone's expections you don't have to reboot the series.

Possibly, but they'd need to cast older actors for Emma and Havok if they went that route.

Angamb you've been wanting an X4 for years, and the chances are it won't even happen. Just focus on X-Men: First Class for now because that's what Fox, Singer and Vaughn are. We're probably going to get a First Class sequel before we get an X4. Maybe even a trilogy.

The same reason Spider-Man 4 didn't happen. These huge blockbuster superhero franchises can't really make it past movie 3. It's just too expensive. An X-Men 4 would be paying $40 million just for Hugh and Halle alone.

Inception is a fun 8/10 film but I agree, it's not as great as everyone is pretending it to be. Talk about an over-reaction from Vaughn and Fox. Changing a script last minute NEVER works out well. As for mirroring anything Inception, who cares? Like I said, Inception is a fun and intriguing film but it's more comparable to a parlor trick than an epic film. Besides Nolanites, no one will even remember the film next year at this time. People are seeing it now out of curiosity at this point. Why shy away from anything based on that? Xavier was dueling on the astral plane in the books decades ago. That's like not bothering with a Fantastic Four film because the Incredibles came out first.

Sigh Angamb.... Ras Al Ghul said it best... "you will never learn". Kid kid... :hehe: But yeah, it's like doing Episode I, then deciding to scrap it and find a new Luke, Leia, Solo and jumping to Episode 7. Not gonna happen.

I love how you're making it seem as if Vaughn was FREAKING OUT AND PANIC OMG HOW WILL HE EVER FINISH THE MOVIE NOW OHHHH NOOOOO!!!!

He, obviously felt comfortable enough with the situation to talk openly about it as if it were no big deal.

Scott and Jean are obviously in it If he said it'll be worth it then that's it right there.
