The Dark Knight Rises Discussing the Third Movie and 3D

They're mega-crappy, though...and keep getting worse and less successful with each try.

I wouldn't worry about this 3D stuff, if anybody can make it work or make it more appealing, it's Chris Nolan.

Plus, let's wait until we hear from the man himself, shall we?

Or it might not make any difference as to how Nolan makes his film....only in how WB decides to distribute it in some theaters.

As long as the plot and characters are focused on more than the 3D, I couldn't care less if the movie's in 3D or not.

Hollywood is really going overboard with 3D

personally, i'm not a fan

Re: Get Your Glasses On...Batman 3 will be in 3D

not if Nolan has anything to say about it.....

I doubt that Nolan will actually film 3D...it'll most likely be a post-process conversion for compatible theaters. It'll be the same film, with just added depth/dimension in the picture that you're watching. If there any issues that Nolan will have with that, perhaps he'll make sure they use the best conversion process out there. I could maybe see someone having an issue if there is a particularly fast-cut action sequence with a lot of different angles, and the 3D makes it a bit too jarring/distracting....that could be one thing that takes away from it. But if it distracts someone in Batman, it'll be the same thing that distracts people in any film, so at least he can still control the actual film that's put together and take some comfort in that it'll still be played primarily in normal 2D movie theaters.

If WB tries to impose on him that he should actually shoot in 3D...then they could have a real problem.

I doubt the movie is being made in 3D. I bet Nolan will just make it the way he usually does, and WB will feature both options of 2D & 3D. I doubt it effects the content.

I don't see a reason to freak out if you think it's a gimmick. Just don't see the 3D version.

^^^^

That's becoming less and less of an option these days. The closest theatre to me playing alice in wonderland only had the 3d version.

Just wait 2 years from now where we'll have no choice but to pay an extra 4 bucks for every blockbuster...

That would really suck...if you didn't at least have the option to see a 2D-shot film in regular 2D for regular ticket prices...at least in places like here in NY with a lot more move theaters, where normal tickets are already over $10.

I just don't see this as 3D material. Especially with Nolan as the director. He likes to experiment. But he want things to be "realistic". And I don't want him having to think of how to shoot the film as 3D... let him focus on story and content.

And you know he doesnt like 3D because?

Because he doesn't have the attention span of a 10 year old. He focuses on story and characters, not special effects. If you think a guy who tries to use as little CGI as possible, will be cool with doing 3D, you are quite mistaken. Nolan's old school. He focuses on the important parts, story and character. If they can make a good 3D movie while still focusing on character and story, I'm cool with that. That said, I've never seen a movie that has succeeded at that, so my expectations are low.

he would rather have a 18 wheeler actually flip from front to back than do it through CGI.

I noticed that. Aside from the Hong Kong scene (ok i'll give the interrogation scene too, although the bright lighting was a bad choice), TDK really lacked eye candy. And you know that if you gave the Batman franchise to Abraams or Del Toro, your eyes would be wide open for most of the movie.

what about the explosions?'
the car chase, the gun play, and batman beating up everyone?

still no CGI, but good old fashioned stunts are the way to go.

What does that have to do with anything? We re talking about 3D here.
the car chase,
Begins did it better. It wasnt bad though.
batman beating up everyone?
You mean the terrible fights that looked fake? But even if they were perfectly choreographed, what was so special about them?

lol especially to the last one.

True i believe begins thrives in areas where tdk does not, mainly the action.

if they can put a bit more action i would not be angry.

but I would much rather watch a character driven film in the highest definition possible than in 3d.

Its that apart from the plot, TDK wasnt a movie that would make you go: "WOW!"

You know that Del Toro or Abraams would impress you with both their images and their stories.

I like Nolan's gritty realism when it comes to the action scenes. I'm also not one of those effects guys. I want good action sequences, but I'd rather have great characters/plots. I'm not a fan of Abraams works
