🇺🇸 Discussion: General Election 2024, 🥥 VS 🍊

US News
But this doesn't hurt Republicans.
How many celebrities do you see making their way to or speaking at Republican rallies, though? They certainly don't have a Beyonce or a Taylor Swift equivalent to call upon. Who is there? Dean Cain? Kevin Sorbo?

Which is hilariuos as the guy they embraced will allow Gaza to be leveled, they literally screwed themselves over a protest vote, oh the same guy wants to deport them, so theres that as well.
Do you expect Muslims to vote for a woman who supports the slaughter of Palestinians and Dick Cheney's daughter?

Are you okay, Sir?

I'm completely over the celebrities endorsements. Who is this supposed to be for? It seems like the same people pop up every four years to tell you how important it to vote, how your ancestors died for your right to vote and how this election depends on you, which okay, fair enough. But I don't need my favorite entertainers to preach to me, I need them to entertain.

Which brings me to another point: Whenever they showed the rallies on TV, it felt more like "which celeb is going to pop up at THIS event?"

and vote for the guy who will do far worse, seems like the lesser of two evils, she wasnt planning on mass deportations and a muslim ban and a green light to isreal to wipe palestine off the map.

Yep, lets blame the minority voters, that's always a good look.

Ok, I know I'm ridiculously late commenting. But here's it goes.

At first I will repeat what I (quite shortly) said a year ago:

"I never go into these political sections, but I'll do an exception now."

Then I said something like:

"Congratulations my American fellow forum friends, I've no idea how good or bad Biden will be but he can't be worse than the last administration."

Now.. I sadly have to say:

I'm sorry my American forum friends for this result. I was expecting it to be very close till the end - and if Trump had won at a very, very close range - that'd been acceptable. But this result truly disappoints and saddens me. I'd never guessed this out come. Then again, I've expericenced surprising election results in my country as well during the decades, unexpected **** happens. Unfortunately.

As a European I also fear this result might suck for us as well, considering that who knows what this narcissistic unstable joke of an American president might throw at us in terms of foreign politics, compared to US presidents in the past (normal reasonable statesman politicians, that aren't delusional egomaniac condemned criminals).

And that's not just me yelling at clouds, but foreign policy experts worrying.

Damn, I never thought I'd rant this much over an American election result in my old age. But we're living in IMO very weird times atm.

I think there's a bit of absolving going on with regards to Kamala as a candidate. She was not a great candidate, especially the last two months. Whether it was her or her handlers but every response seemed entirely scripted and not authentic. How do you not have something prepared for what would you have done differently than Biden?

I’ve been watching more than a few reaction videos and. So much has been lost and isn’t coming back any time soon like SCOTUS.

Harris struggled more with voters because of her identity.

Black woman = loses Electoral College and popular vote
White older woman = loses EC but leads popular vote
White old man = wins EC and leads popular vote

I think honestly, the biggest reason for the loss is Biden should have never been running for re-election in the first place. The Democrats needed a strong candidate ready to run for campaigning day 1. I said this when Biden won back in 2020. He was the guy you needed in 2020, but he is also 80 and showing it. His age was even an issue he had to overcome in 2020. It's insane they allowed him to run for over half the campaign season unopposed, especially when the way the momentum was going was clear.

The Democrats made other mistakes along the way, for sure. But this was mistake number 1

I actually think the economy factor is being overstated, the economy is better now than in the Summer when Kamala was more popular. The question is why did Kamala drop in the polls over the past two months or so. And I trace it back to her bragging about getting endorsed by Cheney and then abandoning the attack line of Trump is weird to Trump is dangerous. She went from a refreshing candidate to just another typical politician with scripted answers.
Her telling the Palestinian protestors, "I'm speaking" completely killed her momentum with zoomers.

Either way she still loses without an overperformance with white women and a normal performance with Latino men.

Black woman = inflation

White woman = normal economy

White man = rival dealing with covid pandemic

Foreign policy (4% issue) was not a factor in the prelim exits and Jill Stein’s vote share is tiny.

I do think that harris having a faster and shorter campaign was a Good idea, it kept things fresh without being dragged out for months.
Problem was that at the same time it wasnt enough time for voters to get all their answers from her.
Their worries have been met with very little clear answers.

Answering wedge issue questions would just splinter Kamala's base.

Meanwhile Trump can basically call for violent revolution while describing a sex fantasy with his daughter and his approval numbers will just climb even more.

It's hardly fair.

This is a minor issue, but I think they need to stop bringing in so many celeberties and the Obamas to the rallies, it just makes the candidate seem like they need help to be propped up by rich people and often the Obamas are much better conmunicators who overshadow the actual candidate.
I agree in that a celebrity's opinion on politics was never enough to sway me anyways.

Unfortunately, I have talked with a few folks that are contemplating suicide due to the election results.
I'm not going that far, I'm just a lot older than most of you. :( Hope those folks change their minds. Don't give Orange Man what he wants.
