Discussion: The REPUBLICAN Party XI

Look at it like this. At present, only about 50% of the people in this country who are eligible to vote, actually do. That should tell you something about how discouraged people are already. Now, make it harder to vote and what do you think will happen? Even less people would vote. Who does that help? The people already in office trying to make the rules.

Either way, it's opening the door to even more voter restrictions. More restrictions, less voters. Less voters, less change in the power structure of this country. And here I thought Republicans were the ones wanting smaller government?

We won't have change until we get campaign finance reform. Third parties can't go up against Obama or Romney. Until then, it doesn't matter how many sheeple vote...because the large majority of voters are sheep. Sad but true.

Since voting is a right (unlike driving, which is a privilege), if voter id cards are issued, they would have to be issued for free by the government. There should be no such thing as can't afford to vote.

That could work. Just add a picture to the registration card and keep it free.

Or just give assistance to those that need it, which as I pointed out is a very small percentage...instead of redoing the whole system which would cost more. Just issue those people a voting card with their picture on it. Have them register as normal, then when they go to vote this year they get set up with a new card with their picture for next time.

There's no huge voter fraud problem. this is all a push to keep "certain" people away from the polls is all. To inconvenience them. to make sure the homeless don't vote. heck they even fired one guy who worked at the Wisconsin DMV for telling people that the ID was free. They don't want everyone to vote. Otherwise they'd make election day a paid holiday.

Keep who away? The poor? The elderly? Those two are the biggest demographics of those that don't have proper id.

The homeless don't vote because they have zero identification. You shouldn't be able to vote if the government doesn't know who you are. No random person should be able to walk into a polling place and vote.

If voting day was a paid holiday, the lower and lower middle class would still likely have to work. The entire country can't shut down and the lower and lower middle class are usually the bees that cannot leave their post.

Random people aren't allowed to vote. People who are registered are the only ones who can vote. If fraud was a problem you'd have thousands if not tens of thousands of people showing up at the polls every year and their names would already be checked off the rolls where someone had used their name and came to the proper precinct. but that doesn't happen. the actual fraud is the people pushing the idea that it is a problem.
These people just want to make it as inconvenient and costly as possible. Having to have an i.d. isn't a problem with me but it needs to be implemented better. Just put some biometric info and a picture on people's social security card. That could double as a voter i.d. Everyone has to have one right? Give it a year or so after implementing it and then enforce it at the poll.
also we need to do away with these black box machines that have no verifiable paper trail that the voter can keep.

It's really telling that the NRA would invite such a vile, repulsive coward and criminal as Ted Nugent to speak for them and allow him to spew such vile, hate and incite people to violence against the president and all Democrats. Not too surprising that he's a friend of Sean Hannity and Fox news. Can you remember all the feigned outrage at the Dixie Chicks who simply stated that they were ashamed of being from the same state as Bush? They were blacklisted on the radio and their careers devastated. They had death threats from people like the Nuge. But yet he's invited to speak for the NRA and applauded for his hate-mongering death threats.

Well the NRA's leaders have always kind of been vile and repulsive (Charlton Heston holding a gun rally before the bodies from Columbine were cold and attributing our problems in America to being ethnically diverse), so that's par for the course.

And Ted Nugent is an idiot not taken seriously by anyone except Ted Nugent and the redneck base the Republicans pander to, who are too stupid to know they're being used by people who look down their noses at them just as much as liberals like my friends and I do.

Not when you vote as someone who is dead...which does occur.

Seems the RNC are not willing to denounce his remarks

Ted Nugent is an idiot. But honestly, I've heard worse rhetoric from Sarah Palin. And she was the Vice Presidential candidate. How that woman was taken seriously by anyone with a functioning brain is something I'll never understand.

Ha. Yeah, almost all the Republicans I met in DC look down over the 'heartland' as "Flyover country" (I kid you not, I had two tell me that) and really have a snide view about anyone without a private school education.

But they sure know how to pander for those votes on being "real Americans" and "Christian/family values" and whatever else we'll hear this year.

Romney's New Campaign Strategy
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co...ims-to-step-on-presidents-message/?hpt=hp_bn5

....Really?!

His campaign strategy seems to be follow wherever Obama leads. I mean I guess that....could work?

I just don't see it. It makes him look like a fly buzzing around the leader. I don't think it's a good idea, in all honesty.

I don't know how to feel.

On one hand, this could be a really brilliant move because it could force Obama to constantly be on the defensive and Obama having to defend his green energy policies, the bailouts, the stimulus, Obamacare, etc. is not really a good thing for his campaign. It will also force Obama to stray away from his offensive campaign on Romney to a certain degree.

On the other hand, this could really blow up in Romney's face. There's a difference between going on the offensive and taking it too far.

Obama should just run ads showing Romney lying over and over. Asking him if he loves America so much why is he keeping his money in offshore accts and why does he continue to use his money to give foreigners jobs and not Americans. If that is how he operates now how can we be sure he won't use his office to send more jobs overseas if it profits his friends?

Also, Romney implemented Obamacare in Massachusetts before he was against it. Hammer that home too.

Yep. Just show a series of adds that tally how he thinks Romneycare should be instituted nationally to him calling it socialism. His saying let Detroit fail. His taking credit for the turnaround in the rust belt. His saying he believes in global warming. His denying it. Just one right after the other.

Romney has been for and against almost every single issue when it was most politically convenient. The campaign against him was written years ago.

Romney seems more incompetent than McCain was in 2008. I see him not being as successful as the last GOP nominee was against Obama because it seems more out of touch this time around.
