Intergang would be fun. It’s interesting, I reckon Hong Chau would play a really cool superman villain but I’m not sure who yet. She just has that Quitley look and she’s having such a moment right now
She could be an interesting take on Mercy Graves, where she isn't as physically imposing to better mask how much of a threat she is.

- Lex Luthor
- General Sam Lane / US Military
- John Corben / Metallo*
- Bruno Mannhein or Morgan Edge (minor villain Clark is investigating as journalist)

*powered by Kryptonian tech (Brainiac reveal for Act III & sequel tease)

It’s a shame they couldn’t use Mongul. But that name is a bit blazing saddles

My actual guess for who it will be is the Ultra Humanite.

Why?

(1). It’s so Gunn;
(2). It sets the tone of the universe, and it’s quintessentially DC and not DCEU or MCU;
(3). He predates Lex Luthor as a Superman villain; and
(4). Gunn has previously teased him:

I do feel like Humanite would be genuinely entertaining.

I was originally against Brainiac but I've kinda come around on that one too. I just hope we get this opportunity to explore the weirder villains after so many years of evil business man and evil alien.

If the movie deals with themes of identity, then Parasite makes a ton of sense (literally steals the essence of other people). Metallo could fit too (man-turned-machine that loses his humanity).

I voted for Parasite.

Jesse Plemons as Parasite!

and Jason Momoa as Lobo

Brainiac should represent escalation in the sequel but I fear we’ll never get to that point.

What about Lex and Bizzaro? I have this little idea rattling in my head...

With the emphasis on Legacy and parentage, I can see this movie examining Superman's character being a result of his parentage with the Kents and his birth parents. And we have Lex who is revealed to be working with Cadmus on a superman clone (revealed in a stinger that Amanda Waller ordered it) and it's test subject B-Zero. Setting up the examination of Lex's Legacy on how far he'll go to take down Superman.

The movie can end with Bizzaro sacrificing himself to save innocent people that superman couldn't get to in time. He sacrifices himself because he was supposed to BE Superman, thus closing the loop on the examination of Superman's Legacy by showing us his altruism even in Bizzaro.

Idk probably not likely but fun to imagine lol.

Bizarro would be super fun. Hopefully the actor who plays superman will have the chops to play both roles

While I think it would be too big for just one film ( unless it was 3 hours ) I'd like to see Lex with Brainiac.
And not some sniveling, ADHD Lex either

Bizarro is too close to evil Superman to me and I just want to see one Superman that is having a good time being Supes. Bizarro later down the line.

I think Metallo, with background influence from Intergang/Lex would be a good, solid 1st film choice. As others have said up the stakes in sequels.

It's fun to have so many options and that there's a chance they might not go for the obvious one, Brainiac. But I also feel there's an urgency behind using Brainiac that nothing else would satisfy, both for the initial announcement and the gradual release of pics and footage. I think it's what would create the most interest.

I also get a kick out of using the film to showcase Superman's less widely-known rogues and possibly launching the likes of Metallo and Parasite into stardom. Man, what a fun thought.

I'd like a combo of Parasite as an initial Intergang-connected threat, Brainiac as the big one.

yeah but that’s sort of the point, to contrast the two. That’s what makes it fun

Unless Gunn is heavily inspired by the relevant section of the Superman 2000 pitch, I couldn’t be less interested in seeing Bizarro in a movie.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's Lex and metallo, but with a strong hint at Brainiac coming in the sequel. Maybe even a cameo.

I think its going to be Brainiac because he's the biggest Superman villain they haven't done yet and they are going to invest a lot money and marketing into it because its going to launch this new universe. Why save Brainiac for a sequel they might not even get to do?

That would get most Supes fans excited - dude is so overdue at this point.

I'm not sure who the villain is gonna be , but I'm pretty sure it won't be Zod and the Phantom Zone criminals again .

It would assume the villain would reflect whatever the theme of the film is.

If the film is about Clark reconciling his dual heritage , and his two fathers,

Perhaps Brainiac would be the villain who could play into those themes ,more than a villains like Parasite , Livewire , Toyman, or Mongul.

Even a villain like Conduit , who was Kenny Braveman from Smallville and Clark's past ,and uses Kryptonite as a weapon, might fit as a villain , if we're going off of the potential themes of the film .

There's also nothing to say they couldn't do Metallo, with Corbin Kenny Braveman's background, so there's a fusion of the two characters .

Lex could be the main villain, and reflect the themes of the film as well, but I doubt Lex is going to be the central villain of the this film , even if he's featured as a character in it.

To be clear, I'm just spit balling ideas ,since, Gunn has thrown several curves balls with regards to his announcements ,and plans for his DCU.

Gunn very well could use Parasite, Livewire, Toyman , Ultra Humanite ,or Mongul as the villains and make them fit into the themes of the film.

And of course, there's Lobo whose been speculated to appear for months now

But I definitely think ,whatever villain Gunn has in mind , they will fit thematically with the rest story ,and with Clark's journey in the film.

I don't think he'll pick a villain for the sake of picking a villain who looks cool.

I think the villain or villains, will reflect the story he's telling, much in the way Nolan and Reeves did with their stories.

Lobo could be a great villain for a first Superman movie. He's not kryptonian, nor has he even been seen on the big screen.

I feel it won't be Braniac simply because the way people want him to be used is so similar to the way that Zod was used in Superman II and Man of Steel (ie, a kind of "hangover" of Krypton and Clark having to choose between being Kryptonian or human).

"It’s not an origin story. It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned."

"With our stories, we want to take it away from good guy vs. bad guy," explains Gunn. "There are really good — almost saintly – people and Superman is among them. There are really terrible villains like Gorilla Grodd or the Joker. And then there’s everybody in between them, so there are all these shades of grey which allow us to tell complex stories."

I see it more being an issue of morality. Braniac, IMO, does not fall within that description. If the Authority did not exist in the DCU, I'd be certain the villains were the Elite.

If we want to get really out-there, what about Superboy-Prime or Ultraman? A literal reflection of what Superman could become if he rejects "truth, justice and the American way"? What about a semi-adaption of Red Son where we see a multiverse Superman who landed in the Soviet Union as the villain?

What about Midnighter from the Authority. Kind of like the Butcher vs Homelander. I would love something new or original.
