I am also tired of villains being killed off in each movie, I want them to stick around to be able to come back later so that the world has a constant threat available. Good thing Supes doesn't kill.

I’m pulling for Mxyzptlk but would be equally happy with Parasite or Metallo. Brainiac seems too soon but if Gunn has a take on it, I’m all for it.

Yeah, Apex could be code for something else. I do think Gunn will hold off on Brainiac for a little while (damnit) simply because he just did High Evolutionary, who felt very similar to a Brainiac archetype (brilliant scientist, capturing creatures from across the galaxy and performing experiments on them). Not exactly the same but there are a lot of similarities. So he might want his next CBM villain to be totally different.

One thing I'm really looking forward to is that Gunn knows how to use CGI and also knows when practical effects work. I think that's something that certain DC movies have struggled with. So when it comes to villains, I'm hoping whoever he chooses isn't completely CGI it possible.

Apex to me would be Doomsday. Maybe Darkseid sending one of his minions like Kanto or his son to take down or test the man of steel. I always wanted to see Kanto in live action.

I could see Superman being recruited by, then rebelling against, the Authority.

Luthor will be there, and maybe responsible for the creation of a villain like Parasite that Superman first defeats. When the Authority executes him, Superman stands up against them to show them a better way (very much like The Elite).

What if it's Ultra-Humanite? lmao
Ape X

That totally feels like the kind of character that’s right in James Gunn’s wheelhouse. Tortured humanoid/anthropomorphic creation/experiment with very a tragic and human backstory/motivations.

I am going with Parasite as the first villain (Big Bad). Kind of an unknown villain with the ability to take and drain Superman’s powers. Gunn can give him a better back story then the animated series were he was more of coward before he got his powers.

Yeah, Parasite would be really cool and I’m sure Gunn would be able to make him look amazing.

Parasite would be great. I was just thinking that Bizarro could be an option as well if we have an established superman in year 2 and Lex Luthor.

Gunn said the movie would deal with the concept of identity, and I think Parasite would suit that theme quite nicely.

Gotta use the Alex Ross design because it slaps.

Funny enough, if Gunn were to start off with Brainiac, I’d wager on the next film’s villain would be Mr. Mxyzptlk.

… I do like the thought of this.

Well, more to the point, Gunn has been talking about identity specifically through the lens of Clark’s conflicting lineages as the Last Son of Krypton and a farm boy from Kansas. It could be Parasite as the villain, but just going off the details from Gunn, I actually think it’s probably a DCAU-inspired take on Brainiac.

I’d love Parasite, and I think Gunn can take plenty of liberties with Rudy Jones. I’m not married to any particular design but I do like Gary Frank’s artwork. Parasite’s goofy at first, but then Superman realizes how deadly he is (and then understands more about Rudy Jones as the man, not the monster):

Almost certainly a very different story, but I wonder if this film might be able to juggle multiple members of the rogues gallery like The Batman did, without necessarily venturing into a supervillain team-up that so many CBMs have fumbled at.

Gunn could include a dozen villains and still make it work.

While I’m sure Gunn could still make an amazing film with the bare minimum, I’d prefer he go wild (Legion of Superheroes, Justice League, and a ton of villains, Mxyzpltk, Bizarro, etc)

I feel like Bizarro is too early for us as viewers even though Supes is a few years established. Bizarro is someone I could see much further down the line but not in the first 2 films. I cant have an "evil superman" for a while.

Pretty cool how he fit all four villains of the 66 movie in there. But at the same time that movie is so long and the villains are used so sparsely, it almost feels like we still haven’t seen Penguin and Riddler onscreen since the 90s. Reeves version felt so understated and to me it was hard to recognize the characters. I prefer the 66 and 90s versions of both Penguin and Riddler to the Reeves portrayal.

I am glad that Gunn will likely embrace the characters in a way that doesn’t alter them visually too much. He’s usually pretty great with that.

Yeah, my thing has been that just Lex or Zod alone all over again wouldn’t do it for me, but I’d also prefer we avoid Bizarro for the moment.

Our last big screen Superman was a moody ****er with occasional teases at turning bad, we’ve got plenty of evil riffs on Superman in pop culture right now (Invincible, The Boys, Brightburn), and Bizarro was also only recently featured quite prominently on Superman and Lois. Let’s just… do something else.

Unless we’re going with a Bizarro take that’s more dumb than necessarily ill-intentioned, which is certainly something Gunn might do, but even still… let’s start off with someone else.
