Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 1

That was the very first leaked image.

And when it came out, we had a bunch of Fox sycophants in here telling us how good it looked.:whatever:

Oh....wow.....glad I never saw the movie. I was afraid it was going to be something gruesome that I couldn't get out of my mind.

yes, the RSN and the international channels are the big prizes in this deal. The Marvel stuff is really only a small piece of a much larger cake.

And I think people realize this. It's just that getting back the comic book movie rights is most important to US.

Most people don't realize that, Comicbookcast2 thinks is trying to reason why 60B just for the Marvel characters or whatever is worth it.

Yeah, being on a superhero message board and all. :funny:

Nothing will change for Deadpool. Still be its own thing, but may make MCU comments now

I think there may be some behind the scenes contractual fiddling. For example, Disney will contractually return the Marvel properties to Marvel Studios who will then lease them out on a rolling contract. (Star Wars will have the Episode 4 distribution rights contractually returned to Lucasfilm) So while Disney owns everything, if they flogged 20th the Marvel right wouldn't go with them.

This is of course more important for Gifted on Fox Network.

I can’t believe people want X-Men in the MCU. Do they know what it means? We won’t get a New Mutants trilogy like we deserve. The MCU stans are obnoxious and blinded. No more R rated comic book films. No X-Force, Gambit, X-23. Seriously, think people. #TeamFox

Thanks for the post. It's always nice for us blind and obnoxious people to hear from someone who knows more than everybody else.

OK people, it's time to write the president and tell him to put the kibosh on this acquisition. Do it now.

Oh jeeze....man, I have to get out more often. You mean FF rights aren't worth 60B or even, as reported earlier, 25B? Shut the front door! :o

@ Dasher10
You say the general audience didn't love the Spider-Man Amazing series.
Two movies pulled in 1.5 billion. How many solo superhero franchises have pulled in more with their first two movies?

People said that about MoS and BvS. Look what it got JL...

Gotta give Sony credit for that one. They knew ASM3 was going to pay dearly for the sins of ASM2, so they swallowed their pride and signed the deal.

And we got a pretty darn good SM movie (which, until recently, I didn't think was a provocative statement) out of the deal that did quite well at the box office.

I will say one thing, I think Fox, for the most part, did a good job of establishing a nice tonal difference from the MCU movies, their movies I think prided themselves in having a little more gravitas and edge which I think Xmen movies should have due to their subject matter. I hope that the MCU Xmen can still maybe retain that spirit a little while maybe still embracing the "superhero" aspect of the Xmen that was missing from their movies.

I absolutely LOVED First Class. I liked DoFP and X2.
Out of 10 plus movies, that isn't a good enough ratio.

At just a 1% return you could invest the $60B for $600m of almost guaranteed profit and almost no risk every year for doing bugger all. If you had a 4% return (which is also not outrageous) you'd make $2.4B a year for doing bugger all. So yeah film rights by themselves are definitely not worth that much. :woot:

Those are probably my 3 favorites. I liked the first one too, but thought they did a number on Cyclops. They never really gave him a square deal IMO.

Disney canceled WatX right after it bought Marvel despite the 2nd season going into preproduction.

After the acquisition I think you can expect more X-Men cartoons again, I just hope they are good. When it comes to the cartoons, I have not been that big of a fan.

Agreed. The cartoons have been awful. While movies have certainly been an upgrade under Marvel Studios, Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes and Spectacular Spider-Man are MILES better than the garbage AA, USM, and new Spider-Man cartoon they replaced those with.

I hope the MCU X-Men costs are like the X-Men Blue Costumes of the comics

I would love it if Marvel did more original direct to DVD animated filmd like DC that skews older. They can have their kiddie stuff on tv and then release some original Xmen/Spiderman/ Avengers animated movies on blu ray. That Hulk Vs. movie they once did was sooo good, I'd like to see more like that.

That is one thing DC has going for them. Better animation than Marvel

Which I dont understand, thats an untapped corner of the market for them Marvel seemingly has no interest in.

BTW, Fox owns the distribution rights to the following Dreamwork Animation movies, presumably in perpetuity.

The Croods
Turbo
Mr Peabody and Sherman
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Penguins of Madagascar
Home
Kung Fu Panda 3
Trolls
Boss Baby
Captain Underpants

I am sure Comcast is interested in these rights. If Disney buys them that would be enough to get all Marvel movie rights back from Universal, and maybe an amendment to the theme park rights in Orlando as well.
