Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 1

BTW, Fox owns the distribution rights to the following Dreamwork Animation movies, presumably in perpetuity.

The Croods
Turbo
Mr Peabody and Sherman
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Penguins of Madagascar
Home
Kung Fu Panda 3
Trolls
Boss Baby
Captain Underpants

I am sure Comcast is interested in these rights. If Disney buys them that would be enough to get all Marvel movie rights back from Universal, and maybe an amendment to the theme park rights in Orlando as well.

There you go! That's thinking outside the box!

Comcast can't be too happy having their competitor up the road involved in another of their major theme park attractions if (when?) the deal goes through and having to send Marvel and Simpsons checks to Mickey. Maybe this could set another deal in motion.

Personally, I would love to see a Futurama presence either in Tomorrowland or Epcot.

Disney also launching their own streaming service, so this would also add content there. They could really hurt Netflix in that sense since all those movies are available on that platform today.

are they? :sly:

Yeah, New Mutants can be a one and done film. The DP franchise can actually continue and add more having ties to Disney now.

But Dark Phoenix....? Written and Directed by Kinberg..?

I don't think it would be in the MCU's best interest to release this. It would make rebooting this even harder. I say shelf it and release it on Blu-ray a couple years from now. And have it titled "What if". Marvel should do the same with New Mutants if viewing that doesn't sit well.

For heaven's sake, you don't shelf a $150-$200 million movie.

Rebooting is easy, release the film and then say alright, we're done with that. Announcing your all new, all different, MCU Uncanny X-Men!!!

Not hard at all.

Exactly. That's the way to do it. I will add you don't announce that until after the movie out of theaters too from a marketing standpoint.

So, I don't expect we will hear about Marvel X-Men plans until 2019. It will probably take a year for the deal to be finalized anyways because there are so many sub-companies under 21st Century Fox for the Feds approval.

That would be a GREAT use of the IP and it would blend in well in those places. It could also revive the IP for a season 8 on Disneyflix.

Fox also owns Horton Hears a Who and some Don Bluth stuff that Comcast would want.

Disney also launching their own streaming service, so this would also add content there. They could really hurt Netflix in that sense since all those movies are available on that platform today.

It would be preferable to negotiate and trade it to Comcast for the rights Comcast owns (i.e. future distribution of Hulk and Namor, distribution rights to TIH, Ang Lee's Hulk, old Hulk TV show, etc) and amend the theme park rights (i.e. expiration date and/or immediate removal of the COTS rides and rights - that would be X-Men and FF).

Putting it on Disneyflix is nice and all but having Kung Fu Panda 3 there while missing the first two is not ideal. Plus they would be showing a competitor's product whereas they could be showing their own product with more synergy. It would be beneficial for both companies, really.

I think the Marvel X-Men will be so much better and so different than what we've gotten from Fox, they won't even be seen as comparable.

When I've seen the X-Men in comic-books, they've had amazing powers, wore colorful costumes and had interesting, distinct personalities. Those comic-books come to life on the big-screen will bear little resemblance to the drab, mopey characters we've gotten from Fox.

My only remaining question is how much are they willing to give up. 60B is currently ~37-38% of Disney's market cap.
They'll do something like issue bonds to finance through long term debt. Disney has many major advantages right now in that the market is literally completely behind the deal, so finding buyers for those to generate financing is very easy. Many investors are likely banking on this as well.

How many great video games has Disney Marvel made since the MCU started? Cartoons, too, for that matter?
It's fair to point out that not all Disney/Marvel endeavors have been homeruns. Lot of that has to do with management decisions on the Marvel Entertainment side. There does seem to be some level of leadership disconnect over there making less than stellar creative decisions on the TV side. I preferred A:EMH to AA for instance. AA isn't an entirely bad show, but there were elements that EMH just handled better.

Gaming is also something of a head scratcher for Disney. You'd think that for all that they'd do they would be able figure out that market but the only real success they've ever seen is when they license out their IP's to other developers like Capcom and Square-Enix.

Ryan Reynolds?
@VancityReynolds
Time to uncork that explosive sexual tension between Deadpool and Mickey Mouse.

Now I'm left wondering if one of the first things they'll announce after things settle in is a new X-Men animated series.

Naw it'll come 6 months after Reboot.

But Disney should rerelease all the cartoons and animes

Isn't it supposed to be an all stock deal?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't they issue bonds to get cash? Fox is more interested in the stock. If cash is in play they could also get some of it with loans given the current low interest rates.

I believe they will put all the legacy content on Disneyflix/Hulu.

I remember when I first heard that there was gonna be an X-Men movie.
I saw an ad for it in a magazine.
I was hyped out of my goddamn mind and couldn’t stop looking at it.:funny:

That hype is back all these years later with the thought of the rights going back to Marvel.
It feels like we’ll be seeing these characters on screen for the first time because because I can believe that they’ll be done properly.
It feels fresh and new.

Nothing is official yet but man...
I’m excited

Well yeah, but they'll probably announce some level of intentions. Not right away, but some months after the deal is signed, sealed, and delivered. Getting it into production is going to take time either way. Re-Releasing the old stuff is going to be a given.

When we're GotG, Avengers, Spiderman MCU cartoons announced?

So Feige must have been made aware of this a while ago right? Or at least that this would be a possibility?

He's gotta have a contingency plan for it, right??

Maybe Galactus is already on the horizon...

We won't know until an announcement. Disney has lots of options and gleeful investors waiting in the wings that are happy to accommodate them.

Even if Fox get a large chunk, I would not expect them to hang onto all of it. Not if the stock price keeps going up. They'll cash out some % of it at some point. Especially if they are looking to reinvest with Fox elsewhere at some point.

This is my hope as well, and I am hoping the FF are already in the cards for Avengers 4 cameos. Galactus and the Surfer I am hoping will get some type of reference in GotG3. Only place I can see Galactus being mentioned is if they run with the idea any earlier that the Skrull homeworld was devoured by Galactus and mention it in Captain Marvel, but I doubt they do that.

I mean, and I keep saying this, someone had to buy Stark Tower if Tony sold it, right? Maybe this was in the works all along and we didn't know it?
