Disney in talks to buy Fox: X-Men Homecoming? - Part 3

When did you become such a Disney fan? There's literally dozens of reasons to question this if you're at all interested in the film industry and everything that surrounds it. Disney is sketchy as hell, and they just got a lot more powerful.

because Fox was going to sell, and Disney is a lesser evil compared to the even larger Comcast et al.

if you think the x-men aren't gonna make their way to the MCU, then I have a copy of Fanfourstic to sell you

not really though, I'd rather light the money used to buy it on fire

Thank you. I found it odd. Having them with everyone else is the reason everyone was exited about this deal I thought. Count me in as thinking you can just drop them in with little fuss as well. No need for reality warping or mind wipes.

Exactly. One day, people realize mutants exist. Panic/hatred of people toward them ensues. Maybe Xavier already knew somehow and started the school to help them, then becomes activist. Easy!

The fact is, Disney has been buying more and more huge assets these past 20 years, and now they caught their biggest fish yet. If this works out well, what would you think if they went further, and tried to acquire even more? What is the ceiling?

The fact that Fox was only comfortable selling to Disney and not any of the tech companies or content distributors (Comcast, AT&T, Verizon) says much on its own.

Yes, they absolutely will be rebooted in the MCU. What you're seeing is fans of the current franchise in denial about what is going to happen post-Dark Phoenix.

Well there's been no official word on what's what's going to happen. Other than future R rated Deadpool and other marvel films are still a possibility. But with the Spider-man deal as an example, F4's past failures and X-men's up and down reception there's no reason to continue it and not start fresh.

Feige is a smart guy and a great producer. I know he wasn't going to waste time or resources on it until this deal was certain. So I doubt at this point they fully know what they're gonna do but now that they can seriously work on it those deals will be sorted out. I don't expect their direction to be settled quickly and the next few months looking at options, stories, and creators before they have a definitive handle on it.

So how X-men or F4 get intrigrated is up in the air, but the safe money is on full reboot.

I bet Marvel is KICKING themselves for killing off Quicksilver.

Wanda: Pietro, how are you alive?

Pietro: This man... He calls himself the High Evolutionary. He has something to tell you...

High Evolutionary: Your past... Your family... They are not what you think they are Ms. Maximoff. Have you ever head of the man people call... Magneto?

Disney got a lot bigger with the acquisition, and the market cap of the combined entities is about $225B. But here are the current market caps for other companies in the media sector with whom Disney is trying to compete:

Apple - $884B
Alphabet - $735B
Amazon - $566B
Facebook - $521B
TW & AT&T - $303B
Disney & FOX -$225B
Comcast - $182B

Disney's big, but they've got a lot of extremely well heeled competitors.

you could say the same about any major corporation. especially in telecommunications. AT&T and Comcast are bigger concerns for me because of how they control more of the production line.

Exactly. There are much bigger players trying to move in on their space.

So please come up with one of these dozen reasons, then? Apart from "I hate Disney", btw...

I’m thinking Marvel will now just do D-23 instead of San Diego Comic con. They will have more than enough content. Leave that to Sony and WB.

I think that's even harder than it has to be. Mutants are new, so mutants are new. It can't get any simpler than that.

This is the route I favor. I'd even plant the seed that all the alien energies and materials recently introduced into the world contributed to the x-gene activations.

It's fortunate little of Agents of Shield's Inhuman stuff appeared in the movies.

I just hope to Christ we don’t end up in a situation where Marvel (rightly) reboots the X-Men to great critical and financial success, while WB keep (wrongly) slogging on with the DCEU, and keep failing.

I hate to tell you that, but, urm, yes, that is exactly what will happen

Who said I hated Disney? Start with those first two links I provided earlier, then read up on Don Rosa's relationship with the company, death of Miramax, their ongoing (but mostly former) problems with diversity and female characters and their marketing. There's more. This doesn't mean they are the worst company out there, in fact they might be one of the better ones, but that doesn't mean we should stop critical thinking because more superheroes now have a chance to interact on the big screen.

I know. I’m in denial.

I’m hoping that at some point WB actually start functioning like a proper movie company, instead of this:
