Disney Movie Appreciation Thread - Part 1

Disney's probably looking over which princess stories would be the most marketable. Frozen was sort of a fluke though, it's so far removed from the Andersen story that it's practically an original movie, and nobody had any idea it would be such a hit. The Andersen story certainly isn't a classic princess tale, there aren't even any princesses in it.

There's a cool children's book from the 1960s called The King with Six Friends that I always thought would make an awesome Disney movie, but it's mostly got male characters. There's only one princess and she's pretty much nothing but a trophy in the story, she'd have to be rewritten. It's about a young deposed king who goes wandering and meets up with various wacky shape-shifting characters and they all end up going on a quest together. Not much of a plot but that wouldn't be a problem for Disney.

Frozen definitely wasn't a fluke when you consider all the other highly successful Disney princesses but it definitely did something new which would be fun to keep exploring in the third Disney era

They should just make that untitled project an actual full length Mickey film.

You're welcome. :) Not for those three. They put Snow White back in the Vault in November 2011, Beauty and the Beast and Bambi in April 2012, The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp in Aprils 2013 and Peter Pan April 2014. Cinderella, The Little Mermaid and The Jungle Book are still being produced for now. Sleeping Beauty is coming next month, 101 Dalmatians in February and presumably then Aladdin next October and Pinocchio in February, looking at their previous release schedule.

I just checked and you can still get the Diamond edition of the Lion King on Amazon, it's marked about £10 but still worth it I'd say. :)

Actually there is also a Diamond edition for £19.49

Or the DVD diamond edition for £13.98

Can they just release Aladdin already? :argh:

yeah i've actually heard rumors it is slated for next year.

i wish i could get my hands on the Zavvi steelbook edition. it's region free :(

I know the first one made a ridiculous amount of money, but does anyone actually want another live action Alice movie? Did anyone leave the first one thinking "man, I want to see more of that"?

Amen. The Blu-ray release needs to happen by the end of next year at the latest. The demand for it must be overwhelming right now, combined with both Robin Williams's passing and the success of the musical. A lot of people must have gone to Best Buy or Target looking for a copy of Aladdin but there aren't any to be found thanks to Disney's stupid vault.

I am really hoping it will hit soon I just about gave up on the Disney Tarzan blu ray and POOF it showed up in August, so here is hoping Aladdin which is obviously well more known and popular than Tarzan will be eventually release soon.

i still haven't seen it, and i had no idea a sequel was in the works

Disney is not going to touch religion with a 20 yard stick. So, do not expect anything related to an Abrahamic religion.

But I could see them doing India one day. They are doing a South Pacific story next from the filmmakers of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin--and on a lesser note Hercules and The Princess and the Frog. That is due in 2018.

They also had "Giants" coming out in 2016. But I suspect that might be a bit more classical and lot less DreamWorks-esque as the title would suggest after Frozen's success. We will see.

They already kind of touched on religion with Hunchback of Notre Dame. True they changed Frollo from a priest to a judge, but he still clearly considered himself a religious man, mentioned/brought up god/biblical verse constantly, and seemed to see hunting down Gypsy's as a sort or holy crusade. And then there's the whole religious undertones (or overtones in this case) of the "Hellfire" scene/song.

That time chart is missing Moana and Into the woods.

Edit: NVM Moana won't hit until 2018

First they need to re-release it in theaters in 3d, I bet the escape from the cave of wonders scene would be amazing.

Moana is the one that I'm most interested in, at least as far as Disney animated movies go. Too bad that it's so far away.

Yeah, it's also too bad that they ditched animating the movie in the same style that they did the 'Paperman' short with.

it would be nice but they did not rerelease Tarzan in theaters but they released a 3D Blu Ray of it. but I too would LOVE to see it on the big screen and in 3D :awesome:.
