Disney Movie Appreciation Thread - Part 1

I think if it helps people and saves people's lives it could only be a good thing.

I think Disney princesses that differ from the norm, like if they had to use an asthma pump or a hearing aid or a colonoscopy bag could really help young people who are sensitive about stuff like that and do so much for public education

I agree with the general idea, but to acknowledge an STD is to acknowledge sex on some level, and I just don't see Disney doing that anytime soon.

Don't know if there's a strictly Pixar thread, but...

I feel very attacked. :o

fyi Beauty and the Beast 25th anniversary edition coming soon

:atp::awesome::atp: :awesome::atp: :awesome::atp: :awesome::atp: :awesome:

I just watched it again recently actually. The beast is genuinely crazy. It's going to be interesting to see how much they change for the live action version since they obviously can't make him that crazy

I saw Mulan last night and I want to have a conversation about it please.

I was thinking about how odd it is that mushu is clearly a black American male in a movie about China and that got me thinking about whether here are any Asian actors who could play the role in a remake?

All I could think of was Margaret Cho. Hey, gender bending worked for Rafiki in the lion king musical!

Well we've already gotten a gender flipped Kaa in the new Jungle Book with ScarJo so as long as it delivers then it should be fine BUT they'll need to be just as a funny as Eddie Murphy was

I doubt they'll switch it up to an Asian actor since that was the whole point of mushu. Kevin Hart may be it.

Nah the whole point of mushu was comic relief. Margaret Cho is definitely as funny as Eddie but she's of Korean descent not Chinese so maybe that might be an issue? Can't think of any Chinese comedians but I'm sure they're out there

I think that from Disney's POV Elsa counts as a princess because she spends the first 1/3 of the film as one, before being crowned Queen.

Elsa spent at least part of the movie as a Princess so I'd say she counts as one.

Has Disney ever explained why Mulan is in the lineup, since she isn't connected to royalty at all?

Because they wanted to include a Chinese princess in the line-up and Mulan is all they've got. :o

Yeah this is pretty much it (or more that they wanted the Asian demographic) Although I think Disney owns the distribution rights to studio ghibli so they could probably use princess mononoke if they asked nicely (although she's a very different style of princess)

And apparently they're biased against non-human princesses coughNalacough. ;)

Hey now, Nala was never a princess. She went straight from Nobody to Queen! :D

I wouldn't be surprised if they cut Mushu from the live action movie altogether.

Oh no way they'll definitely have mushu. You can bank on it

Were there any other male lions in that pride? If not wouldn't Nala be Mufasa's daughter? And wouldn't that mean...
