Disney's live-action "Mulan"

Whats up with her looking like she did in the original cartoon? I expected an Irish woman.....

I like it. especially hearing the piano version of Reflections in the background.

I wonder if they really will include the "fantasy" elements like Mushu, or just make it straightforward and realistic.

Do we know if this is going to be a musical?

EXCLUSIVE: Phoenix Possibly Replacing Mushu in 'Mulan'; Cast Will Not Sing Classic Songs -

A source close to us that has seen the film reports that a phoenix replaced Mulan’s beloved sidekick Mushu, and that while music from the animated film will be included in the remake, the songs will not be sung by the cast as the music is just instrumentals.

As time progresses, Disney will very likely use test screenings to gauge what changes – if any – need to be made via reshoots and post-production.

thanks. I actually think being a non musical and not including Mushu sidekick works better for this type of film.

though I expect there will be a new version of Reflections to play over the end credits - just hope they don't try to "modernize" it......yuck.

anyways, looking forward to this. Being half-Chinese, I've got to support Disney's only Asian Princess.

I don't know what to think. It looks beautiful but the lack of Shang and Mushu just makes me uncomfortable.

And yeah, this looks nothing like Disney's Mulan. It's gonna be a totally different movie.

I like it! Hope its good and does well so Disney doesn't get so skittish about deviating from the source with their other remakes.

But one thing. Mulan looks like a total badass from the beginning. I expected her to be completely awkward and a joke in the training scenes as well as the beginning.

Is there a reason they replaced the Dragon with a Phoenix? Is it because a Phoenix represents women? Anyways I am sure the changes they made to this movie were to please the culture and people the movie represents.

This Chinese chick I know from Facebook who is pretty in the know regarding actresses from over there went on a long rant about they chose the most bland and lifeless actress to play her, lol. I was like, hey....I don't know.

It looks so good. I’m just so conflicted because Mulan is my favorite Disney movie: but it does look good: no, it looks really good, and it seems very intimate and dramatic. No hint of humor, or even romance. Mulan looking like a total badass throughout. Beautiful cinematography. Incredible portrayal of Chinese culture. I’m here for it.

In fact, is there any way for somebody to maybe make some avatars out of any of those shots from the trailer, of Mulan fighting?...

I think it looks good. I can get over the non-music as long as they have overtures of the OG songs in the movie.

After all, this movie has to be true to its heart.

I think taking the fantasy elements out of the story is a mistake, if that is what they’re doing. The point of these animated remakes is that they’re Disney’s version.

Otherwise we had a historical Chinese made Mulan a decade ago.

Is Mulan no longer impersonating a man in this movie?

This looks great. Unlike Aladdin, it looks like they filmed in actual locations, not green screen.

What about Jasmine?

Which is fine by me. If you’re going to just do a shot for shot remake of the animated version (like Lion King) then why bother. I appreciate they are keeping the spirit of the original while trying something different to justify a live action remake.

No way. It's more likely that they added a sequence where she fights dressed as a woman, probably after she's already been discovered.

They're not taking them out... they're replacing them with different fantasy elements. lol

The main villain of the movie (played by Gong Li) is a witch, and according to rumors Mulan's sidekick is a phoenix.

I love that Mulan looks so different from the other Disney Princesses.
