Disney's live-action "Mulan"

What if your internet goes out too or if your internet sucks? Or maybe the movie sucks. Imagine paying $30 for a movie that sucks
Thats a risk at the theater too. That's a risk when buying UHD and Blurays and and digitalHD films as well.

Don't forget that reviews will be coming out when this goes live on Disney+ so its not as if you have to blind buy it.

30. 30+ You know what I meant. If you have a family paying $30 or more isn't that unheard of for a night at the theater
I **** you not last time my full family went together. Four of us. With tickets and concessions it cost us over $80. That was 4 or 5 years ago and prices have went up quite a bit since then.

Maybe it’s because I live in a metro area, but a ticket Friday or Saturday night is like $15-$18 here. The $30 price is pretty much saving money here even for a couple without kids.

Just crossposting what I put in another thread
I will say this: we all know Beyonce. She's one of the biggest musicians and brands in the world and she has the passionate and scary (and silly) standom to back it up. The Beyhive. And even she had a tough time getting that standom to pay $15 to own her last album Lemonade. They complained it was only on TIDAL when they could've bought a physical or digital copy for $15 to $30 and "owned" it. Eventually she had to release it to other streaming platforms. Same thing happened with Kanye with TLOP. Hate him or love him, he's a huge musician and brand. He still had issues.

If freaking Beyonce has a hard time selling people, her fans, and stans on paying $15-$30 on a single piece of media; I think studios are overestimate how much other people will pay for individual media. Especially on non MCU things

True and that's the case for me too. But if you're not a couple or not a family this doesn't make sense. ANd even then, there's so much content out there you're paying for, what is going to cause you to pay for say Mulan. People are already paying $50+ on all their streaming services and not watching all the content on there.
What is going to get them to pay $30 to see 1 single movie at home

There are way more factors of things that can happen at home vs a movie theater though. And in a movie theater, you can get your money back or a rain check very easily

Idk...I feel like apart from wifi, they are pretty much the same. If an emergency happens itll happen regardless. But if your theater lets you get your money back after you already started watching it...thats a nice theater.

Me and my friends are disucssing splitting the cost, sharing a login and giving each other a timeslots to watch it in cause for a single person, $30 aint gonna happen.

I mean, I’m not disagreeing with you. I’m just saying I don’t think the price is AS ridiculous as some are saying and there are definitely situations where people will buy it. Will enough people buy it to be successful? That’s the question.

There are not many movies I‘d pay $30 to see at home, but depending on the movie, I could see myself doing it. Last year, I would have paid that much to see OUATIH and The Irishman if that was the only avenue I had.

This really isn’t surprising to me. I’ve been following conversation on what this could look like for years and it was always gonna be high price to see big blockbusters at home On the same day as their theatrical opening. Obviously the theaters won’t be getting this cause they’re closed but the price is still what I expected. The prices were never gonna favor the single viewer. Families? Sure they prolly pay this much already just for tickets.

Any theater would do that. At least any AMC that's their policy. I've had to use it. You can do it you know 2 hrs into the movie, but yeah you can get a raincheck to watch the same movie later. Being a "nice theater" doesnt have much to do about it. I'm sure most big chains have that

And that Seems like an unnecessary amount of effort when it's gonna be $6 like 2 months after release. Really? Timed watches and a schedule? But have it

Yeah, I'm not against paying $30 for a rental in principle, but it has to be a movie I'm really invested in. The Batman? I'd happily fork over cash for something like that. Dune? Probably.

This? Can't say it makes the cut. I could rent the original for a fraction of the cost.

I just can't see spending $30 on myself when it'll be $6 in 2 months.
There's other movies to entertain myself in the meantime

They're using the video game pricing model for this thing like it's a must have. If it was a new avengers movie I could possibly see justification because of the hype and ongoing character arcs, but it's Mulan.

Yeah

Twitter is a very small sample size but I'm seeing a lot of posts from people saying that paying $30 for Mulan without beloved characters or songs is a non starter. However, a lot of those people are in the family demo that Disney is hoping to grab for this
