Disney's live-action "Mulan"

I find it way harder to muster the motivation to sit down and watch a new movie on my computer, plus there’s so many more interruptions and distractions. This whole time, since the last movie I saw (Birds of Prey) in the theater, the only movie reviews I’ve written since February are Hamilton and 7500.
Watch The Kissing Booth 2. It will motivate you to write something. :o

I'd worry about the precedence involved in this. With Peacock recently creating a second tier to be able to access their original content, I would hope if this isn't a complete disaster that it doesn't result in major content becoming a premium price. Pay the monthly/annual fee for the catalogue, but if you want to watch that new show/movie when it comes out instead of six months later, that'll be $30+.

Also it has probably been mentioned, but with tax and the fact that you need to subscribe for at least 1 month, this is actually closer to 40 bucks. If you want me to pay that, your movie better star Keira Knightley, Emma Watson, Daisy Ridley, Jenna Coleman, and Hayley Atwell. :o

Or if you are Snow Queen just Ellen Page or Kaitlyn Dever. :hehe:

I came out to have a good time and I'm feeling really called out right now.

But also yes.

So Disney+ opens here in Finland on September 15th. If this is in theaters here, it better make the money then (theaters could be at 50% capacity then, currently at 25%). This will definitely be heavily torrented.

Disclaimer: While I likely will do the latter, I do plan on getting Disney+. I pay 12 euros a month for Netflix but can afford this in addition to that.

I'm gonna be forced to finally get a Netflix account to watch The Devil All The Time next month because those cunning temptresses put Tom Holland in it :whatever:

I actually wouldn’t have a problem with paying for a premium price if it actually came with more than just the film. I use to happily pay for big box sets and special edition DVD/blurays because often the special features were as good as the film (in some cases they were better). But those type of premium products aren’t really done as much anymore and so I don’t really purchase movies as much. If there was additional content that came with Mulan I think the price tag is far more reasonable.

Straight to streaming for $30..... I guess Disney really needs money now, huh. I am terrified about this.

What do you feel about New Mutants getting released on Aug 28th and pending theatrical release of Black Widow ?

I’m reluctant to give any really weight to Twitter polls but it won’t surprise me if this would equate to real customers. The issue to me is simply this - is Mulan a film people want to pay that high a price for? If we’re 100% honest, Mulan was on the lower end of the Disney Renaissance in terms of popularity, it’s not nearly as beloved as everything that came before it and so has less nostalgia appeal, and this remake was never designed for Western audiences in the first place.

Trying to play like Mulan wasn't/isnt that popular is just false. It may have not been Lion King or Beauty and the Beast. But it is and was immensely popular. At least in the US. And to say it has no nostalgia appeal is also false.

The problem is that this remake doesn't feature some of people favorite things like the music, Cri-Kee, Mushu, Khan, Li Shang, or the "fun" looking tone.

Less appeal than yeah like Lion King or Beauty and the Beast but it's still immensely popular and just goes to show how popular Disney Renaissance was. Even at "less apeal" Mulan still was/is very popular

I think there’s definitely an audience that will pay the $30 to watch the movie. Disney must have done their research on this and decided it was more financially beneficial to put it out VOD now than to sit on it until next year. Even if you put it out next year, you’re not going to be making the same money as pre-Covid days. Disney basically has two more months in their fiscal year so it makes sense to make whatever you can, now, in order to survive to the next year.

Maybe movies like Dumbo or The Call of the Wild would fare better on Disney+.

I’m waiting for The Call of the Wild to come to Disney+. Kind of surprised it hasn’t come yet.

I thought it was a straight to Disney+ thing already honestly
