Disney's live-action "Mulan"

No. I saw it on Amazon prime. It was an okay movie. Karen Gillan had a really small role

Did you rent it on Amazon or is it actually part of Prime? I don’t want to spend more money than I have to on that movie.

I’m reluctant to give any really weight to Twitter polls but it won’t surprise me if this would equate to real customers. The issue to me is simply this - is Mulan a film people want to pay that high a price for? If we’re 100% honest, Mulan was on the lower end of the Disney Renaissance in terms of popularity, it’s not nearly as beloved as everything that came before it and so has less nostalgia appeal, and this remake was never designed for Western audiences in the first place.
Yeah but all of that is probably why they are doing this.

The question for me is: Is Bluray release for MULAN now cancelled?

Nah. They’ll try to squeeze out as much as they can out of Disney+ subscribers first and then will go to everyone else with the blu ray release. Though I think the chances are that the people who are interested in seeing Mulan are probably Disney fans to begin with and are already subscribed to Disney+. So I don’t know if there are people waiting to see this exclusively on blu ray.

Yeah as harsh as this might sound I hope it all backfires on them big time, because this being a success could have dangerous ramification for a lot of future blockbusters. I'm more worried now than ever about films like Tenet or Dune which I know are meant to be seen on a bigscreen and if Mulan is a hit on streaming I can see more studios definitely trying to follow suit and just throwing them out there as quickly as possible.

I'm worried that this might happen with all the big movies on all streaming platforms, even if they were released in theatres at some point. Like you'll still get your shows and "crappy" movies with your subscription, but you have to buy certain big releases. Maybe if HBO sees that this is a hit, they'll charge people for the Snyder cut...

I doubt this will be a succes in my country, I've seen mostly negative reactions. People are questioning why they would have to buy this movie when they already have a subscription. Also we don't really have PPV's over here, so $30 for a movie seems like a lot

As much as I understand the anger, the reality is the situation is forcing companies to have to look to their own survival before whatever alliance they might have with other areas of their industry. Same thing happened in comics with DC finding alternate distributors.

Any chance that the Mulan streaming plan might work better globally than domestically? What's the biggest Disney Plus platform internationally?

The fact that you get to keep it if your a subscriber makes it slightly better, IMO. I wonder if they'll change the price to $19.99 like other premium VOD rentals or if they'll stick with $29.99

I guess because I'm one of those people with a family who would've spent more money for all of us to see it at the theater, I didn't immediately feel the rage others did.

That being said, I want to see Black Widow on the big screen so unless this somehow makes a billion dollars in VOD sales, I hope they don't do the same with that.

My country still doesn't have a Disney+, but we have a DisneyLife app here. So I don't know how Mulan is going to be released here. Everytime I go to the mall I always see Mulan's poster in the coming soon display. And the movie was supposed to come out 2 or 3 weeks after Onward (the last movie I saw in the cinemas), then the quarantine happened. It feels weird that its no longer getting a theaterical release.

All this drama for a film that would have done 400-500 mill worldwide tops.....

I read that Disney was in talks with NATO about this prior to the announcement. So it wasn’t like they blindsided them or anything...unlike Universal when they moved Trolls 2 to VOD.
