Disney's live-action "Mulan"

Also, would this be a musical? Disney makes some of their live-action films musicals, but not all of them.

If it means re-enacting the gayest Disney song ever with real guys, then bring it on! :awesome:

To be fair, there was a lot of homoerotic undertones the "training scenes." Shang feeling to need to take his shirt to, I don't know, show off his magnificently-toned pecks and abs or something, was hilarious. They even joked about it in-movie with the whole "I'll get that arrow pretty-boy, and I'll do it with my shirt on" line. Also, I kind of see undertones to Shang and "Ping's" dynamic as well.

They better! All movies are improved with musicals.

Haha gee wouldn't that be the funniest competition ever? Deciding what the gayest scene is in any disney movie? I would say the ending of frozen but that's a bit obvious.

Maybe the rupaul's drag raceesque song by the muses discussing how hot hercules is?

Disney are smart enough to find an unknown Asian actress, since Lily James is Cinderella and most of the general movie going public don't know her.

And yet Nala from Lion King isn't. Disney's racist against non-human royalty. :cwink:

Specifically non-anthropomorphic non-human royalty. We have to factor in the whole Goofy/Pluto situation.

Disney Developing Live-Action 'Mulan' (Exclusive)

On the heels of the magical success of Disney's live-action Cinderella, the studio is eyeing another live-action retelling: Mulan.

Disney bought a script by writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that centers on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the female warrior who was the main character in Disney's 1998 animated film.

Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We're the Millers) are producing the new project.

The 1998 film, directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, followed a young woman who disguises herself as a man so she can take her father's place in the army and go to war. With the help of her trusty dragon sidekick Mushu, she becomes a skilled warrior and, eventually, one of the country's greatest heroines. It earned $304.3 million worldwide, got Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations and resulted in a 2005 direct-to-DVD sequel, Mulan II.

Disney has been on a roll with its live-action version of its classic animated films. Cinderella, starring Lily James, has earned $336.2 million worldwide to date since hitting theaters three weeks ago. In 2010, the reimagined Alice in Wonderland grossed a staggering $1.02 billion and when Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the iconic villainess, opened in May 2014, it went on to earn a stunning $758.4 million worldwide.

Disney is making a live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. Audra McDonald just joined the cast of the project, which will be directed by Bill Condon. It hits theaters on March 17, 2017. Elsewhere on the live-action remake front, Disney has a new version of The Jungle Book and the sequel to Alice in Wonderland in the pipeline, along with a live-action version of Dumbo, which will be helmed by Tim Burton.

Writing team Martin and Hynek met in high school, and have, among other projects, written for the Know Theatre of Cincinnati and rewrote a script for Amazon Studios.

I'm okay with this if they drop the talking dragon.

The only one I don't want to see a mo-cap Lion King. Don't want to see Simba's father getting killed with "real" lions. MY EMOTIONS!!!

I think they need Mushu to keep some levity. The original story is ridiculously dark without him.

Judging by the producers behind it, it may be closer to the 1998 animated film. If they do keep Mushu, wonder if they'll woo Eddie Murphy back or get a more bankable name to do the voice/mo-cap work.

I really hope they don't bring Eddie Murphy back. He's my biggest issue with the Disney version.

Yeah Michelle Yeoh is way too old. Think 20s.

And of course they need to keep Mushu otherwise why would Disney remake this by taking away the "fantasy"? Isn't that the point of these films?

If Lana Condor does decent work as Jubilee and gets noticed, she could very well fill the role. If she gets noticed.

Loved Disney's Mulan. Music was great and the voice acting was top notch.
I'm looking forward to this after being presently surprised by Cinderella.

Yaaaay! I wonder if they'll get Eddie murphy back?

I hope it's as sumptious as the curse of the golden flowers was

The Banquet (or Legend of the Black Scorpion as it's known in the States) from 2006 was pretty gorgeous too.

Liu Yifei has been suggested in some quarters and I think she's a good candidate. She has star power, can act and looks credible doing martial arts and can hold a tune if singing is required. Her English should be much improved now (she was already fairly fluent a few years back).
