If they can't release it in China, or it's not going to be a big hit there now anyway, then they should add back the songs. Imagine if they took all of that away, and then if it didn't matter anyway because China became a non-factor.

Last I remember, it was simply postponed and not outright cancelled.

Although I do think Disney is banking on this to lose money (quite the oxymoron statement ) seeing as we're about 3 weeks out, and still no media rounds with the cast to promote the film. To be honest I was more excited to see Liu Yifei doing press promotion, possibly at late night talk shows, than the movie itself, but I guess it's probably not happening, with corona and her HK statements

Besides, there’s deals and contracts in place with theatres and cast/crew. It’s not like they can just do something like that.

Quiet Place 2 postponed its release a week before opening. You can't tell me Disney can't do that with a bigger buffer time before release. With China already postponing it, and every big movie so far moving the heck outta these 2 months, Disney's had more than enough time to pull any triggers, unless they're counting on sacrificing Mulan.

I understand there are probably contracts in place and all but you would think there's some kind of clause covering natural disasters or heath issues that would give Disney an out to release it on Disney+. God knows they need new content on there.

It is not a question of an out. It is a question of why would they burn the money they would get from a theatrical release.

Because it may end up costing more in the long run. This year is basically a wipe out for films. Right now if you're a smaller film scheduled for release Netflix is looking like a saviour because they are likely to buy and distribute your movie meaning more people have a chance to now see it. But these big tentpoles run massive marketing campaigns in the hundreds of millions in an attempt to get people to watch it, which they will now have to do all over again. As I said though, contracts are probably in place which prevent this, but it would surprise me if there was no natural disaster type of clause.
