Do you believe in a higher power/God?

I'm not going to share with you my beliefs, because frankly, I have been re-evaluating them over the past few months. But I will say that I do not believe that Christianity is the truth. I believe it, like most religions, was created by an empire looking for a control mechanism to inflict on its citizens. So a few monks were commissioned to write the Bible, which then became the law of various empires throughout history, and anyone who didn't adhere to the standards set by the Bible were tortured, mutilated, and murdered in the name of God.

I'm also not going to get into scientifics because 1) that is not my specialty, and there are many other posters here who could relay that information to you without me butchering it, and 2) you are going to look for a hole in my argument and try to fill it with Christian principles which I believe are false.

This is EXACTLY how I feel about religion. It is just a load of hocus pocus cooked up a few hundred years ago to scare people into being controlled.

Sorry if that offends anyone but that is truly how I feel.

The apocalypse is going to end up as a self fulfilling prophesy. There are Christian groups out there actively attempting to bring about the events leading up to the rapture, actively seeking the end of the world.
When groups get into an end game state of mind it's very bad. Why worry about the future when you are just going to vanish into heaven in a couple years?
Any group that is waiting with baited breath for the end of the world is totally F***ing creepy

excuse me, but that was NOT, I repeat, NOT what moviefan was saying. NOWHERE did he EVER wish death upon those who struggle with homosexuality.

no he didnt wish it. he predicted it by the will of his god. where is this tolerance that christ preached?

He said those things because he was worried about the state of the soul of these people on here, just like I am... God does hate sin. He is disgusted by it, and His Word says "for the wages of sin is death". than means any sin, no matter if it be favoritism, lust, cheating, lying, stealing, homosexuality, coveting, adultery, idolatry... to God, ALL of these are punishable by death in the Lake of Fire, which is the Second death.

who appointed you the guardian of our souls? you are not god. you are not christ. according to your own beliefs your egotism and lack of any discernable humility is a sin.

but He doesn't want us to be punished... He doesn't want us to experience that punishment, so He let Christ become the Ultimate Sacrifice. ALL sins, excluding one, can be and are forgiven, and I assure you, homosexuality is not the unforgivable sin.

so if you believe that homosexuality is like any other sin why do fundamentalists spend so much time concerned with it? why dont you try banning the fashgion indusrty for its pride or capatalism for its inherent greed?

why the hang up on gays?

Homosexuality, like almost every other sin, is, yes, punishable by death, in God's eyes... it's the honest truth, and it sucks, yes, but God, in His Love and Wisdom, provided a way out of that punishment... I struggled with this sin when I was younger, and I was sexually abused as a childand it played a part in it, but I can definitely say that one can be cleansed from it, and forgiven, and no longer be appointed unto wrath.

at one point do you realize that this kind of condemnation and condescention is prideful and sinful? why not leave the judgement to god? if your faith is so pure then let god worry about gays.

All of these people can say what they want, but bella, HR... nowhere did he ever say He wanted death upon any sexually confused individual... i suggest do yourselves a favor and actually go ask him what he meant... he loves God with his heart, and I guarantee you he won't lie to you on this subject.

it has nothing to do with his desire or his wants. he openly condemned gays because of his belief system. he is still responsible for his words and opinions even if he thinks they are justified by his ancient god.

bella, HR, both of you have only heard one side of this entire conversation... and I 100% guarantee you, that there is another force at work here that doesn't want him here, and i'm not talking about jman, or gilpesh, or star, or any human being on this forum

are you suggesting that satan was at work here? again what makes you so full of yourself that you think you have the power to descern satan's works? last i checked pride was still one of the seven deadly sins.

the best thing any person can do is tell someone else the truth... but the truth is not always going to be sugar coated and taste good, especially if you're doing something wrong. Hopefully, Most of you can attest to that in your own life

take the time and actually read what moviefan has been saying all this time, HR/bella... maybe God will open up your own heart and show you something you didn't see before, because nowhere... absolutely nowhere... did moviefan ever suggest that he wanted gays to die... I know I most certainly don't want them to.

i have read most of what he had to say. he was intolerant, ignorant, prideful, and condescending. not one ounce of humility and exibiting behaviour bordering on sociopathic. the very last person i would want defending or explaining my belief system to anyone.

tell me this? why is it so hard to find christians that actually behave like christ?

I believe 144,000 Jews will recognize the 2nd coming.......as far as Christians.......well.....................that's a wait and see.

I like trumpets......so I'm sure I'll catch the hint.:cwink:

Well.. The Jews are still God's chosen people... Hopefully that counts for something?

You are both guilty of abusing the ellipsis. Too many and one short. :csad:

^I only enjoy this thread during the brief periods where we get fun discussions going and it's not "Everybody vs Moviefan". That crap got boring FAST. But Movie will wake up tomorrow, log onto the Hype, enter this thread, the townspeople will grab their pitchforks and pounce on him, and I'll ignore this thread for a few days :whatever:

Oh lord.......if that's the case........I should have been hung a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago...:hehe:

it's not about sexual preference at all, Bill... it's simply about sin in the world.
the world can't see it for what it really is because they're too ignorant of their own pride and too self centered to actually care about themselves and their lives

You're right about the first part. It isn't about sexual preference. It's really about a bunch of people who let a book from an ancient culture turn them into bigots simply because the original writers stuck in the phrase, "these are the words of our god."

Sigh...how do you remain so calm with some these people?

...and no, I'm not talking about Kel or SSM. :o

when you hear preachers like Todd Bentley in Florida, using violence to promote his teaching, it's most definitely not the will of God. God does not use physical violence in that nature to show His Glory... that man is extremely dangerous, and he doesn't even know it.

So what nature is killing all the firstborn of Egypt to show his glory to the Israelites? Todd Bentley is a overrated thug by comparison.

At some time in the Bible God goes from being an Abusive father to a loving fun uncle.

Actually from over protective to almost non caring. It proves to me though that this god is human.

because it goes against free will... God does not control people from the inside like a puppet. If it suits him, Satan or one of his demons would

Yes, he does. Exodus 7:3 " But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt, 4 he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites. "

There are other instances, but this whole book is rife with examples of God manipulating the Egyptians.

You're gonna have to explain that "god is human" part. I'm curious now lol
I feel that god in the bible exists as an imaginary figure which has gained power through the use of myth and story. Who said something like this Freud?

Ah ha, makes sense.

I think CC's referring to how God seems to not be above petty human irrationality - kinda like the gods of old, actually

OT God is a hard God to get behind. Idk how Jews do it. It's hard enough having faith in God after his NT retcon.

This is the first time I've come in here and had the conversation maintain civility.
