For fans, yes that doesn't make much sense. For Sony it would make sense. Get yourself associated with the MCU and use Holland to make the audience think all their films are MCU. It's very smart, actually. Most fans won't be able to understand the difference if Holland is in both. They don't follow these franchises like we do. To them, it would all be Marvel.

They most likely think Deadpoo & all of the FOX Men movies are in the MCU because of the MARVEL logo at the beginning

I suspect a lot more fans follow this stuff than you give credit to. Whose not on social media & following a million things. There are forums all over, that discuss these things & films/studios in general. The world is connected & becoming even more, everyday. I get what you are saying, i just disagree with that thought.

Agree. If people are interested in a film they will read about it. The mcu doesn't just interest comic book readers it interests a huge portion of the film going public. When sony did the spiderman deal with marvel it was mentioned in most newspapers. Superheroes are no longer niche they are mainstream.

I know people who thought Batman Begins was a prequel to B89. I think you're giving casual audience viewers too much credit. Heck, my fiance' confuses Marvel and DC characters to this day. She'll ask me when Arrow is going to show up in the Avengers and stuff, and I have had that conversation with her 1000 times. That's how these things are to most people. It's hard for us to see that because we're more invested.

Hmmm...that more than 17yrs ago...we have come a long ways since then, on the amount of information availability.

See my edit. Back when I was a floor manager at work, I cannot tell you how many times I had to explain the difference between Marvel, DC, FOX Marvel, etc. And these were all nerds I worked with. The people who are more likely to research these things. From people who use social media everyday. Yeah, the tools for people to find this stuff out are there, but the issue is they don't care enough to research it. Largely, they see the movie. Maybe they post about it after they see it. Then they go back to posting selfies. As a social experiment, go poll 100 random people. I bet you more than 50% won't know about any of this.

50% probably wont but then more than 50% of the population don't go to see marvel films in the theater.

This is 2005 way before twitter or Facebook or reddit was popular. However you got a point tho. Most people think venom is in the mcu cause of Spider-Man being in it. But why lie? If they took him out people would figure it out anyway unless they reboot for the thousandth time and that won’t go well at all.

The MCU plays on gimmicks and thats why people get so excited by Marvels cross overs... now if you took spider-man out of the MCU and put him in Venom there won't be many upset because people would be too busy getting excited that a crossover is happening between Venom and Spidey.

Again i don't think Sony will take spider-man out of the MCU. i think Venom was set up to not need spider-man there and i don't think they will look at the Venom box office and feel they need him involved

Given that this is Sony we're talking about, I would not be surprised if they pulled this move.

Taking Spidey out of the MCU would be the dumbest thing Sony could possibly due. With any other studio I wouldn't be concerned, but since it's Sony... I don't think it's likely, but I do fear it's possible.

MCU are the items on the table. Spider-man is the table cloth. The boy pulling the tablecloth is Sony trying to take Spidey back.

Yeah yeah...and the boy getting crushed is the profits come tumbling down...yeah I get it. Sony is not yanking Spidey. R.E.L.A.X. Relax...everything will be alright.

The possibility that Sony could take Spidey out of the MCU has always been there. and not alot has changed at all. Venoms success has no reason to make Sony take Spidey out of the MCU, and why should it?

The one thats questionable is the next negotiation after that after the 3rd movie is released. as long as Sony hold the film rights, they can afford to wait

But again, if they did that they're losing the MCU revenue and turning every future Spider-Man movie into a glorified fan film. Who wants the bad press from that?

They would get called all kinds of names by a certain section of fans, and we've seen what a venomous/out of control group of fanatics can do to a film's box office with Ghostbusters (2016). The vitriol from that gave it a bad word of mouth, and meant it didn't make its money back.

If Sony are smart they'd keep Spider-Man in the MCU and avoid insults and death threats publicly being hurled their way.

Venom is going to make over 700 mil WW. Which is more than many MCU films. They won't be missing out on any money.

As for your death threat point, anyone who would threaten the life of someone over Spider-Man film rights is pathetic human garbage who deserves absolutely nothing good in their lives.

Well they are probably the same people who said Venom would flop.

The main advantage would be getting to include him in and otherwise connect to spinoffs they want like Kraven (and also maybe avoid overexposing the character with Avengers and other MCU appearances).

They would get called all kinds of names by a certain section of fans, and we've seen what a venomous/out of control group of fanatics can do to a film's box office with Ghostbusters (2016).

True, even audience apathy/fatigue can hurt a series like with Apocalypse and TASM2 but fan vitriol can be a lot more damaging. But death threats shouldn't be tolerated among fandoms, let alone encouraged.

I was ultra-lukewarm for X-Men Apocalypse, but I can promise you that my disdain for (most) of that film won't hold a candle to the new Spidey movie if Sony yanks him from the MCU (however unlikely).

I don't think Spidey has a long drawn out future in the MCU. i think once they do the 3rd movie then Marvel would have had a good run with the character and then either they can come to a new agreement with Sony that allows Sony to continue to make money from this deal... or there is a good chance that Sony will take the character back. whether its Holland or another spider-man.

Marvel and Sony have probably discussed more about this stuff and the future then people would believe.

Well Feige and his supporters have been promoting starting Spider-Man at 15 and then letting us see him grow a lot older in a Harry Potter series way yet a lot could happen so that he only gets three solo films and only just graduates from high school if that. Kind of the point of starting Spider-Man in high school again is to see how he changes and develops after that but we might not see anything after.

In a way it's a pity venom made so much money. With rothman not being a fan of superheros and disney aquiring fox, i think there was a real chance that sony and disney could have swapped some ip's. Talking aliens and predator etc... for spidey rather than their superhero stuff.

Damn... that would've been cool.

Marvel and Sony have probably discussed more about this stuff and the future then people would believe.
I think that's very true. Feige is very hands-on and I can't imagine these negotiations aren't ongoing at all times.
