Ock, you've clearly worked very hard to educate your disciples properly, but you've still got more work ahead of you. A man should keep his house in order. ;)

LOL!

My house is in perfect order, save for some oreo ice cream Silver S spilled on the couch over there ;)

My Octavians all know what the real Doctor Octopus is like, and they all know that the Ock we saw in SM-2 is different in many aspects from the comics Ock.

But Molina's Ock was still a damn enjoyable and great villain to watch. And it's no crime that they enjoyed every second of him doing his villainous things on screen.I know I sure did.

And I'm certain they all know that comics Ock is the better and truer portrayl of Ock,than that in SM-2.So if Nick enjoyed SM-2,I bet it was mainly due to the tentacled one.I know it was for me and many others here. And like I said, there's no harm in that. It's not a crime to love Alfred Molina's Ock.

That some 785 million it made was mainly down to the tentacled one.Guaranteed ;)

Every new piece of news we get for SM-3 makes us feel worse and worse about this movie.Seriously can anyone name something encouraging we've heard or even rumoured?? I know I sure can't.

Anyways on a lighter note,I managed to score this off ebay.A personally autographed SM-2 pic from Alfred Molina:

I feel so lucky to own this.To think the great man himself held this in his very hands :D

It's an amazing feeling, isn't it? :D I know I look at mine every so often and smile just like the first day I got it.

Oh no, no one is denying how we love Movie!Ock, despite his many flaws of character (obviously not Molina's fault) and while Sam's decision to show more scenes of Pete and MJ staring at each in silence for like ten minutes at a time is a shame, I admit I was clinging to brief hope that he would pick up on the underground uproar of places like the Hype on how Spider-Man went from Action! stories to Soap Opera Whiney Drama flick story. You'll all remember, I'm sure, the scene that he left on the cutting room floor - the part where Ock slams Spidey into a room that had bookshelves on either wall and some more ass kicking ensues? Sure, it may have been a whole 30 seconds extra of action, but I think we deserved it after the silent bits of doe-eyed staring.

Give me a scene with Spider-Man trying to stop a train hurtling out of control after Ock rips out the controls before a scene of Harry slapping Peter silly and then crying about it any day.

And now I fear that Sam'll sap even more action out of the third movie trying to make room for 2 (3?) villains, a new female lead, and more dramatic silent staring scenes. Before you know it, we'll have Venom sitting having afternoon tea in a cafe with Gwen and Sandman while Pete sits in the corner and cries about it. Put your suit on and kick some ass, man! You shame your uncle.

tis a shame Herr couldn't agree with me and instead start talking to you Ock. ;) That's ok. I know Ock realizes i'm just saying that we don't know how the movie will be till we see it.

why's everyone so down about this? We see names, we freak out the movie will suck... you just don't know till you see it.
Without turning this thread intp yet another S-M3 debate thread (like we need more of 'em!), I'll just have my say on recent matters & leave it at that...

I'm against Topher Grace being Eddie/Venom for the simple reason that personally, I don't think Grace is up to the job. Both in terms of acting ability & physique.
Willem Defoe, Alfred Molina & Thomas Church are all very, very good actors & alot of the times actually 'look' like there comic book counterparts. Unfortunatly, neither of these things can be said for Grace.

As for the Gwen thing...meh. I didn't care before when she wasn't in it & I don't care now that she is in it.
I'm also getting a really bad feeling that Raimi is biting off way more than he can chew with all these 'new' characters along with all the exsisting ones that are returning.

If Gwen takes up space that Ock could be using, I'm sending Raimi a flaming sack of dog poo.

...um, wow Silver. Feisty.

And I still hold on venom cause if he is a main role in this, which I don't see yet, he would be mostly CGI.

I already screamed from the mountaintops that I don't have a problem with people enjoying 'Spider-Man 2,' or any other mediocre superhero movie. It's when they make excuses and expect other fans to just accept whatever crap is pushed at them at face value.

Topher Grace is Venom, Ock. You realize what that means? It means that not only will they continue to write schlocky crap for talented and well-cast actors to perform but in addition, they're increasing the ratio of horribly cast actors. Kirsten Dunst and Bill Nunn were pretty much the only actors that were drastically wrong for their roles, even taking into consideration that the scripts sucked. Now we've got one of the top three Spider-Man villains played by a Tobey Maguire look-alike instead of someone who looks like Eddie Brock. Hell, that looks like an adult, for that matter.

This is why I'm not going to accept any of that sunshine-junkie nonsense from anybody. While part of me is very happy with this turn of events, since I want the illusion of decency surrounding these movies to cruble completely and separate true fans from heathen, this is still a horrendous turn of events.
You'll notice I didn't tear into Nicklogic like I would someone outside the Lair. That's out of respect for you, and I will continue to restrain myself.

That's not the point at all. Topher Grace doesn't look like Eddie Brock, by any stretch of the imagination. If you won't take my word for it, have Symbiotica explain it to you. :o

Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Ock and Silver S are the royal couple when it comes to appreciating the true glory of Octavius and maintaining a balance between enjoying the movies for what they are while still demanding more than mediocre filmmaking.

OMG! It's Topher Gra.....Oh no, silly me. It's Eddie Brock! :p

do me a favor Logan, don't talk to me like you're so much better. And go ahead, tear into me. Don't talk to Ock like he's my dad or something. You got some stuff to learn when it comes to talking to people with respect.

Or Venom_uk could explain it. ;)

This might make me a heathen in the eyes of hardcore Venom fans, but I never liked McFarlane's artwork. Still, no artist's version of Eddie Brock resembles Topher Grace. None at all.

Topher Grace would have to gain about a hundred pounds on that scrawny frame of his to even be considered as a plausible fit for the role. It doesn't matter if the combined Venom creature is CGI or not; Eddie Brock never looked like Peter Parker and he was a huge, extremely buff athlete before he joined with the symbiote.
Only a hardcore non-fan of this character would ever consider Eddie Brock a "dark twin" of Peter when it came to appearance in civilian identities. Wouldn't you agree?

No doubt. But you should know that it was because I found your tone condescending that I started arguing with you in the first place. You wanted the rest of the members here to "stop being negative" and to ignore the facts that we know about this movie, about Venom and about Topher Grace. I'm not the only person who needs to work on communication on the subject of superhero movies.

You are missing the world that Sam Raimi inadvertently created. His vision obviously does not match the comic world. Tobey doesn't look like Peter Parker. Kirsten, is no MJ, cept in maybe the first photo shot of her in SM2. Doc Ock, a bit freedom on location of his event, of his attitude, etc.

So why is it even a SLIGHT surprise that Venom/Eddie doesn't look like the comic one? Same with Gwen. Yes, it sucks for fans who want the true to comic look/story, but that's not hollywood's care.

Now that's not naive, just realistic.

Not at all dude. I think with McFarlane you either love his work or hate it...I personally loved his run on ASM & thank him for bringing us Venom. BUT, having said that, McFarlane may have created Venom, but Bagley defined him IMO. I'll take Bag's V-man over Todd's any day of the week.

I don't know about the 'hardcore non-fan' but I think it's pretty funny that self confessed 'big' Venom fans are ready to welcome this kinda news with open arms. Tickles me that. I'm a big a Venom fan as anyone & I've been saying from day one, way before Grace was rumoured, that I didn't wanna see Venom in S-M3. Bah!

*looks around*

Oh hang on, this is the 'lair', not the 'Club House'!!! Oops! :D:venom:

I couldn't care less about the world that Sam Raimi has so wastefully created. I want to see hundreds of millions of dollars spent on quality material that does justice to the brilliant work of those who made Spider-Man an icon worth filming, not hundreds of millions wasted on cheap, shallow melodrama you can see on the WB any day of the week.

I'm plenty realistic in this, although I was genuinely surprised when I heard that Topher Grace was even being considered for this role. They did a wonderful job of casting for the last two villains, even if they did a horrible job of writing for Octavius. If the writers of 'Smallville' couldn't even get the straightforward character of Dr. Octopus right, they certainly aren't going to get a psyche as screwed up as Venom's right. The fact that they chose Topher Grace already shows they don't even want to so much as get the appearance right, much less the character development.

Again, I'm happy about this to a degree, but if you maintain this cheerful attitude toward something that is artistically unethical and a waste of money and dare expect me to share it on any level, that puts you in a group that cannot be considered true fans of the Spider-Man mythos, and it makes you just as bad as me when it comes to pushing views on other people, if not worse. I'm drawing lines between categories, I'm not telling people which one they should want to be in.

:wolverine

Ok people let's all calm down in here. The hostility is getting a little much.Thank you for your restraint btw Logan.A full frontal Herr Logan attack would have me mopping up blood in here, and as you know I like to keep my house in order ;)

Raimi has made a mess of alot of the important Spider-Man elements. There's no denying it.Facts are facts. And there is no excusing it.But he has delivered some good entertainment. And Alfred Molina's Ock is one of the best examples of that.

Nuff said.

Now on a lighter note,I got myself a new Spidey poster in my comics store yesterday.Much to my chagrin,I spotted Black Crappy on the top right corner. Why couldn't Ock be holding her battered and bloody body in a tentacle in this poster?? :(

I had to take these pics at an angle, because the camera kept leaving a big annoying shine on the poster

Oooh! Nice poster dude.

They have any more there by any chance? ;)

Dude! That poster is awesome!

you're happy logan? that's the first hint of it i got this whole time. I'm not forcing my view, not purposely. I'm surely expressing it though, much like you.

We'll just see how it goes when it comes out. Hollywood screws things up, that's for sure. I am a fan of spider-man, thank you, and you can thank Silver S for that. I just use to assume alot about things in the past and try not to do that anymore, hence my view.

Great posters Ock.

Remove any non Spidey related poster. If it's not Spidey related,it's irrelevant ;)

Thank you all for the kind words.I do indeed love this poster.About time they brought one out with Spidey and all his main villains in it
