Doctor Who - Not a Hugging Type of Thread

Yeh, the arc episodes can be really hurt by the fact they're about the arc.

Sometimes you need throw away nonsense for a fun breather.

I actually prefer the standalone episodes to the larger arc episodes. Call me crazy but Dr. Who is at its best when it's just having fun and not trying to be serious and grim or reveal some mind-blowing revelation.

I think one of the strengths of the show is that it can do both. I enjoy both modes equally, on the whole.

Because of Karen Gillan, the TARDIS has a wig machine.

its fair to say that Eleven had something installed. i mean he actually pulled his hairpiece off his head in front of Clara remember? :woot:

and SO WHAT if it was a filler ep so soon after the 12th Doctor began?... it was fun and enjoyable and it WORKED...

Even if this wasn't intentional, it's pretty clever. Capaldi is already making me swoon.

LOL... it's like the Doctor is doing his version of John Cena's "You can't see me" shtick... :woot:

oh, NOW I see what you're talkin' about... clever...

I very much enjoyed this episode. I think this was a very good intro to WHO episode for someone to get on board. It encapsulated what the show does at it's best in a breezy way. Capaldi killed it in showing how his Doctor is both distinct from the recent Doctors while still holding onto the essence of the character. Robin was fun and I would love a return of the character if only to see the banter, which annoys the Doctor so much. I especially liked him living up to the legends, stories and folk lore about him, rather than being some revisionist "real" take. The fun, whimsical tone was nice all around and well suited for a traditional take on the legendary outlaw.

Curious. What is "The Promised Land" and is it linked to Missy?

I wonder what that equation is?

Is he trying to find a way to the Promised Land?

Finding Gallifrey?

He started scribbling equations BEFORE he even heard about the promise land ( Ah! Chalk!)

Could be about Galifrey

The Promised Land is where the robots from "Deep Breath" were heading before they got stranded on Earth. We don't know for sure that it's the same place as this Heaven that Missy keeps whisking people away to, but that is what she told that one robot at the end of "Deep Breath."

How is that possible? He wasn't in the Tardis until the end of Deep Breath right?

So the chalkboard wouldn't have appeared until after he'd killed the Half-Face man.

Plus, when the Half-face man mentioned the Promised Land, the Doctor was like there isn't one, and neither of them was getting there. So he'd heard of it( kind of like the Pandorica was something he thought was a fairy tale despite never mentioning it before)

He scribbled on the floor of the bedroom.

At this point he had never even heard of the promise land plot arc from the robots

So it could be mad scribblings

Everyone's heard of the idea of the promised land( Heaven)

The doctor of course knows this theory humans make up

Twelve just thought the robot sucked up alot of human knowledge and picked this idea up

I'm well aware of that. Now, why is a separate "species" of cybernetic creatures also looking for the promised land? And is Missy actually connected or was she blowing smoke up that cyborg's thermal exhaust port?

I wonder if the Time Lords put a little something extra in the Doctor's mind along with that new regenerative cycle. You know, the beginnings of a way to find them and bring them back now that Trenzalore's off the menu. And it's just niggling away at the back of the Doctor's mind, so he occasionally gets moments where he has to write down all of these equations.

embedded some kind of an equation or code or coordinates of some kind as a way back for Gallifrey in the Doctor's mind... yeah, I could buy that...

Doesn't the finale feature [blackout]Cybermen?[/blackout]. There is certainly a connection between robots and the Promised Land and if the finale does in fact feature [blackout]Cybermen[/blackout] one must wonder how they are involved with the Promised Land. But are "Heaven," and the Promised Land the same? How does the soldier from last week's episode fit in? She is decidedly not a robot.

I like this idea. Also, I think the act of 12 helping freeze Gallifrey in time may be how he relocates it. Like, attaching co-ordinates to it. But he still has the quandry of if he brings Gallifrey back into our universe, the Time War likely restarts. I think Into The Dalek opens up an interesting concept for 12 to work on. If Daleks can be made good, perhaps an uneasy truce of sorts can be made, or an opposing fighting force raised. It would be insanely difficult, but then again, I like how things are right now. The Doctor still the last of the Time Lords, but cleared of the guilt.

Jenna did look good in that dress.

I think whatever Heaven ends up being, it will be extremely convoluted, disappointing and tied too much to the Doctor.

Perhaps 'Heaven' was where The Doctor was going to go after dying? But the Time Lords saved him, and thus Missy is annoyed?
