Does anyone think that Green Lantern is going to end up getting slammed by critics?

After the death of his father (when he was a kid) Hal grew up to become a sellf centered, arrogant test pilot.

Not everyone becomes a hero automatically, he was chosen by the ring as it detected a strong willpower and fearless nature, he learnt humility afterwards (maybe during training on Oa.)

So it IS like Kirk's arc in Star Trek(2009). Well a superhero is a little bit different ball game than that but I'm curious to see how/if they pull it off.

Basically Hal Jordan and Kirk are similar characters. Pre-Captain Kirk is cocky and a snarker, but the actual Captain Kirk is more reserved in that sense and stoic. I suspect Jordan will act a little more serious towards the movie's end, but still have a slight deadpan streak.

I dont wanna hear any hate against thor, that was a very entertaining movie. I'm hoping GL will be too! Who says they cant all be great?

Totally agree with you on that.

Screw the critics, man! :o

Pretty sure the average movie-goer doesn't really care what the critics say, if they're interested in it, they'll be seeing it regardless. (Transformers 2)

But, I am hoping it does well this aspect, since theirs been a lot of negativity towards the film... Plus it's the first GL movie... Hoping for the best. :woot:

Hey Thor's got little to worry about at this point. It's passed the critic test(not essential that it passes this but it's still nice to see) and more importantly the audience & box office tests. It's lined up for a $400M WW cume and will get a franchise. Aside from XM:FC(which already IS a franchise) GL & CA should hope to be that successful.

This convo reeks of that Marvel v DC stuff that bores me a little. I'm looking at Star Trek for domestic boxoffice results more than Thor. Thor's going to get 200 and a little pocket change at best, GL needs to be a little more successful (250mil range) because it's budget is obviously bigger.

I thought it had the same budget(150M).

the biggest worry was THOR and it did well, so there's no need to worry for Green Lantern or Captain and especially not X-MEN at all~

But I'm more concern about the box office as well, captain seems the less attractive one for general public but it got support from die-hard fans. X-MEN got fans in public but Green Lantern got none from both sides.

Green Lantern doesn't have support from fans?

The previous two X-Men movies have bled a lot of goodwill from the franchise's fans in the public.

What are you basing this on. Do you have any reliable data? One thing you are missing is the fact that "Green Lantern" spills over into anothe genre (SiFy/Fantasy) which has a lot of loyal fans how will more than likely go to see the film (this is common with both SciFi and horror genres). I dont' belive there are enough diehard fans out there to support any of these films, so if Captain America can't pull in regular moviegoers from the general public... well, you know what will happen.

Green Lantern doesn't have support from fans?

This guy only has 46 posts. Where did he come from?

Well, it most definitely has my support. I haven't been the longest fan of GL (read Rebirth about 3-4 years ago and became a fan of GL) but I always thought the film looked great.

My brother saw Thor today, sat behind a big group of kids, when the GL trailer popped up they were psyched and saying they can't wait to see it.

That's always a good thing to hear. :D

Of the three major Superhero movies coming out (X-Men FC doesn't count since it's a sequel basically) I'm actually anxious to see Green Lantern than either Thor or Captain America.

I guess since GL leans more towards sci-fi battles than norse gods and steroid soldiers I'm hoping Ryan Reynolds can deliver on this if not then there's always that Deadpool film.

I think it's fair to say the word of mouth (in my humble experience) hasn't been as good as that of Thor, Cap or First Class. There's also the issue of superhero overload.

Personally I expect GL to be the least successful of the bunch, both financially and critically. That said, it will probably still be rated moderately to positively (think high 60's/low 70's on RT) and still make a big ol' pile of money.

Thor is good, but overrated.

There, i said it.

Thanks for disproving everyone's opinions. Glad we can stop living a lie.

But you know where you should spread the word? A thread about Thor.

Hey, dont get offensive. I just mentioned Thor because several ppl on previous posts were talking about it.

Btw, before i forget, i said it is good, didnt i? I just said the is overrated, with ppl saying it is best Marvel movie. I dont think it is, but it is good. Chill out.

:)

I'm a little concerned for both cap and gl. Because they both could seem cheesy to some people. Especially gl with all the aliens and glowingness. lol. But i seriously hope they do good. I just dont know if using a guy with a large head and a giant cloud that embodies fear were the best choices for villains for the first film

Well science fiction films tend to do more than films about norse hunky gods and WW2 soldiers.

I'm sure those that grew up on Star Wars/Star Trek will enjoy it.

Terrific, GL vs Thor talk.

Seriously, infractions should be handed out the next time that happens.

:o:doh:

I know Sage, it's so freakin boring. Thats why I've been trying not to bring up Thor in any negative way in this thread. Because it always looks like you are dissin another movie in order to prop another one up.

The fact is people don't know if GL will be a good movie or a successful one. We don't have any early word on it's quality nor is it close enough to judge the opening weekend numbers. I'm not saying that one can't guess as that is fun but at the end of the day that guessing means nothing.

Alot of people, including myself, didn't think that Avatar would be anywhere near as successful as it was because of all of the "cartoony" looking CGI and the failed "Avatar Day" thing. Alot of people thought that it wasn't being advertised for in the right way or that people weren't hyped for it or that they wouldn't except it because it looked strange. All of that convential wisdom was bulls**t.

If Avatar and a freakin Star Trek reboot can succeed this movie has a shot too. Captain America isn't a slamdunk either as people aren't too fond of period pieces and the movie isn't exactly full of A-list Superstars. Don't even get me started on First Class with it's B and Z listers, lack of Wolverine and X-Men movie fatigue after two bad movies. Thor is already doing well enough but it wasn't a slam dunk either, overseas it was because of the swords and sandles thing but the states were a different story.

I would give Captain America the advange of being the most known character sans the X-Men out of all of them though.
