And around when did she go back to her natural red hair color?

And I think she's actually a brunette, When Frenz came back full time to the book mid Season of the Serpent arc though he started making May look alot more like MJ.

Yeah, there seems to be an inconsistency over if she looks more like Peter or MJ.

BY JENNIFER M. CONTINO
Artist and co-creator Ron Frenz has confirmed for THE PULSE that fan-favorite series, Spider-Girl has will see at least 106 issues. We've also got a preview of this month's # 95 and some comments from Frenz on why it shouldn't be missed.

"We're clear 'til # 106," he said excitedly. "We've just began sowing the seeds to what will be the big story in issue # 100. I came up with a design for her costume on the cover of # 100 that I really like. It's pretty wild to be working on this series now and there's no reason to believe that we won't be renewed past that number as well. The Digests have been selling incredibly well."

After that good news, Frenz plugged the upcoming issue and said it contains answers to a lot of mysteries and a ton of great guest stars from the MC2 universe. "We find out who Tony Stark's bodyguard has been all this time and how he got this way," Frenz said. "The issue guest stars Hawkeye, the Scarlet Witch, Hank Pym, the Avengers and has Tony Stark put on the old armor. I got to pick whatever armor I wanted and I pulled out my old George Tuska references."

"I don't know if it will get in the editorial content or not, but this issue, if in no other way, is spiritually dedicated to George," Frenz continued. "He defined Iron Man for a whole generation of readers. I grew up on his stuff in the '70s and '80s. That's Iron Man to me. That's what I went to when he shows up for the three or four pages in Spider-Girl # 95. Tom told me to use whatever suit I liked and I came up with the idea to have him in this suit. I thought briefly about putting him in the gold armor, but when push came to shove I wanted to see the classic Iron Man - the one, for so many years, that you don't see anymore. That's what is cool about Spider-Girl, we're not connected to anyone continuity, so I can do my own thing. Which, for me, means going back to the original designs."

Iron Man isn't the only one going to be wearing a uniform that's an homage to classic comics. The archer Avenger, Hawkeye, is also going to be sporting an old favorite. "I went back to the original Don Heck version of the purple and black costume," said Frenz. "That makes the book a lot of fun that way. We're not tied to anything. We occasionally are tied into something that happens in Last Hero Standing or the upcoming Last Planet Standing, but that's rare."

"I got to see the first issue of Last Planet Standing," Frenz said. "It should be another great five issues of material for everyone involved. It's the same team as Last Hero Standing, so look for it."

You mean if Pat Olliffe stayed on with Tom right?

@Citizen Kaine: Thanks for splashing the thread with all the art from those great past issues! Man it makes me miss Pat's pencils at times!

Anyway, the latest issue of Spider-Girl was BOMB!! There were so many twists and turns that i had to reread the issue twice- just to make sure that i caught EVERYTHING! I knew that Tony Starks "Bodyguard' looked somewhat familiar from his first appearence a while back, but i'd never thought that the revelation about him wouldbe so dramatic! Also, did the symbiote react on its' own, or was that a subconcious control from Normie. Because even though he said, "Oh Noooo!"- it seemed like the symbiote had control. And did anyone else peep the fact that when he interacted with May at the end of the issue, that he refered to himself as "We"? I'm sure there's more to be revealed about that in later issues! I can't wait for the next issue!!

Pretty much, but Defalco at least break's Lee's record. Sort of. Ditko's gonna go to Bagley obviously.

On the Spider-Girl Message Board Ron Frenz posted a follow-up to his interview on the Pulse, basically saying that Spider-Girl's future isn't as rosy as it was when he conducted the interview:

Secondly, this news is hot off the press....."Spider-girl" is NOT renewed through 106. Her future after issue 100 is now being considered by the "Powers that be". Naturally, when we know anything definite you guys will probably know it first.

Beleive me "Spider-girl" continues to NEED your support. That's it for now.

I have since learned there are serious plans afoot at Marvel to end Spider-Girl's run at 100. It is not a done deal, though, so Marvel needs to hear from us NOW!

Write letters. E-mail doesn't impress executives. What would be great is if you knew a child who wants to write a "Save Spider-Girl" letter. But don't fake such a letter, whatever you do.

Marvel's address is:

Marvel Comics
417 Fifth Ave.
New York, NY 10016
Attn: Spider-Girl

The key people to write to are EIC Joe Quesada, publisher Dan Buckley and David Gabriel, who is director of sales and also a Spider-Girl supporter.

The one point I want to convey to Marvel is that Spider-Girl's success lies with the mass market, not comic shops. Spider-Girl is not among the comics carried at Borders or Barnse & Noble, and that never made sense to me.

I'm trying to put together tips for a letter-writing campaign to these booksellers. But for now, Marvel needs to hear from us! And how!

Thanks, all.

Wow. I'm speechless, but yet i'm preparing to write letters now. This cancellation thing HAS to cease! Marvel isn't really losing money on Spider-Girl, but i just can't see why they continue to hang this blasted cloud over our heads. Please make time write letters today guys, and gals- we MUST band together to form ONE voice, one that's louder than ever before.

I haven't been in contact with anyone about this. Are these plans motivated soley by sales numbers?

I've already got 12 letters in the mail -- two to Marvel and 10 more to Barnes and Noble, Borders and 7-Eleven. I can use my existing letters as templates to mail out even more letters at a moment's notice, and it's my intention to write follow-up letters in a few weeks.

Each of the digests sell around 70,000 apiece. The direct market only accounts for around 5,000 apiece for the digests. That's a difference of 65,000 per digest! (Or 325,000 total difference for all five digests!!!) This book was made for the mass market, and it's a crime that the monthly comic isn't there yet. The sales numbers would just explode if Spider-Girl monthly comics can break into that mass market. (I'm taking into consideration the differences between mass market readers and direct market readers.)

I think it's important to reinforce other people's confidence in the future of the book. With the spoilers to #95 and to #97, and with the strength of the current stories under the new editor, each of us could make serveral new fans easily with this news. This can be done by either talking to people about it, or going to any number of message boards and web sites to express this news. But just as important (if not more so) is to get the comic shop retailers excited in the comic again.

Come on people! Rally! Gotta save her! I've helped save it before, and I'm more than willing to do it again.

This book is worth it. The characters are really coming alive with so much heart in the stories now like with Moose's situation. The team puts so much of themselves into the stories, and every fan for the longest time have fought hard for this book even when things looked sure to end badly. There is such a close relationship between the creative team and the fans that I doubt that any of us will ever see anything like this ever again.

Jeffers is formulating his battle strategy (e-mail him; he's got a covert plan going on that could work wonders really fast), and a bunch of others are doing their part. Here's what I've been doing and thinking --

I think the goal is to get new readers FAST. It's important to not think of this as a cancellation. People use the "c-word", and that scares away new readers.

I wrote to a number of mainstream book outlets, essentially telling them that Spider-Girl digests are more popular in the mass market than in the direct market using those numbers I posted, and asked that they request Spider-Girl monthly comics from Marvel because it would be an instant best seller. I wrote to Marvel saying the same thing too.

But that sort of mass market thing takes months to work out. And time is not something we've got a lot of. If it takes 5 months to make a comic and SG #100 is only 6 months away, I think Marvel will make their decision sometime within the next 6 weeks. (Basically, any ideas to "radically change the storyline" isn't going to matter at this point.) So we've got to hit the direct market too.

I know SG fans sometimes hate spoilers, but I've been to one Spider-Man board, and posted the link to Jeffers' scan, and hyped up Venom and Kristy while I was at it too.

(This link contains a spoiler)

I also went to an Iron Man board, and hyped up the old armor, and Stark's bodyguard.

People are going to say crap like "I'm not going to try it because I hate the creative team." I've been answering those by saying the last few issues have been outstanding because the book has a new editor who's really reinvigorating the stories. Give it a shot because things are different now. And, well, they are. Since #92, there's been a lot more energy and feeling to the stories.

I've also been saying on these boards that the book is sometimes hard to find, and so people may have to reserve a copy from their retailer. The demand may be there, but it's not going to do the book any good if the retailers aren't buying the book. I'm thinking we should tell these retailers about the new editor, the reinvigorated stories and the spoilers to #95 and #97 AND the big demand that WILL be there for #100. If that doesn't work, "Brad" from the other SG board suggested that we tell our retailers to order five extra copies per month. And if they don't sell in a few weeks that we would buy them. The retailer loses no money, and if there are extras then we can give them away to make fans regardless.

This can work! I believe in the material, in the creative team and in us fans. We've done it several times already. If this campaign works out, we won't have to worry about anything again. :)

I just emailed Marvel. Remember that loyal fans are what saved this book on countless occasions. Don't think that you can't make a difference. Please join in!

Well, &*$@!!! Time just ran out.

http://www.comicboards.com/spidergirl/view.php?trd=060114041146

Whatever we plan on doing we better do it NOW.

I've got so much faith in this book's selling power on the mass market, but I don't think that will happen in enough time to make a difference.

I think the best results in the least amount of time is going to come from making new fans and talking to retailers like I said before.

Letters to Marvel can't hurt much, but we'll make our point much better by getting others excited enough to pick up the book.

Everybody chill, this has happened thrice and we always pull through, it'll be no different this time, only now we have big boosts thanks to the return of
Roddy Roddy Hobgoblin
and of course a centenial issue. Trust me I've been through this exact scenario before with issues 50 and 60 and many issues before that, this time will be no differnet, and we'll all feel foolish when were reading Issue 101 a few months from now  :)

But remember a few threatening emails to Marvel doesn't hurt as well. Stay strong kids and just read the banner to issue 61 over and over to yourselves.
