Comics Doesn't anyone else read Spider-Girl??

I think the book's been doing much better under the editorship of Nicole and Molly, and I think constructive feedback from fans have really improved things. I think things got bogged down during the Black Tarantula arc when we had a densely told action story, but in my opinion since #79 things are really starting to pick up and we're reminded once more about why Mayday is such a great character while still having the great action adventures. In my opinion the characters are a bit more important than the action of the story. I know I started reading Spider-Girl because of the character. Talking about recent issues, I think #81, #85 and #86 were especially great for the mix of character and action!
Exactly, and you also pointed out another good fact, that Molly and Nicole have done an excellent job editing the book. Things are especially getting good again with all the characters in the book, and everyone is playing a very important role during the telling of the stories. Now with the tie in of the Last Hero Standing, Spider-Girl is a definite must read!

Dang skippy. :)

Really anxious to get the talk rolling on SG #87 and LHS #1 when I get back from my weekend. :)
Well don't wait for me buddy, my cash flow is a tad low, so i'm going to be late getting my comics this week ! I'm hoping by this Sunday is the latest, because i need my comics!!!

Still broke, and still haven't bought my comics. Life's a drag when you're broke, but feel free to start the discussion....anyboby.

'kay. Beware of spoilers all over the place!

SG #87 really surprised me. I wasn't expecting much from a "middle issue" to a story arc, but I have to say that Franklin really stole the show! It was really good to see the character-play between him and Spider-Girl, and seeing him try to hold things together as the leader. Torus played the role of "Scrappy" pretty well. And I was really glad that a page or two was used to keep an eye out on Normie. That guy is going places! And the Venom symbiote showing up in the background was really cool. Great to see the other MC2 characters in the background, and can't wait to see what kind of climax we're building up to between the Skrull Empire and all the heroes of earth.

Speaking of "everybody," I thought LHS #1 was a cool opener! With so many people, though, the story wasn't developed very quickly, but it was still great to see everybody. Can't believe LHS #2 is coming out tommorrow! I'm thinking the bad guy behind everything is probably Loki. And seeing a world-weary Captain America covered with scars is really making me wonder what's to become of him by the end of the mini. Hope Peter gets into costume soon. Even in the future, I'd like for him to keep his secret identity. Guys like the Buzz seeing that Mayday's dad has been captured might be tempted to ask some uncomfortable questions about "why him".

Honestly, I really would like to thank Tom B for greenlighting this project, and would like to also thank Tom D and Pat O for putting so much work and effort into producing something like this to come out all in a single month especially considering how involved Tom's life must have been these last few months what with writing two FF books at the same time, making Spider-Girl even better than before, getting through that personal crisis, still finding time to come to the Pittsburgh Convention, and plotting and writing a five issue mini. I genuinely admire that kind of work ethic. These guys are doing this for us, and I applaude their dedication and work. I know Tom said that LHS is a "one-shot stand alone", but I hope the efforts really pay off for Spider-Girl and for them with maybe another MC2 title down the road. Already wrote in a letter asking for that. :)

Spoilers for LHS #2
I too thought it's probably Loki...then you really know it is probably him with the mention of Asgard toward the end of LHS#2. I can't believe Tom revealed him so early, though. That is kind of a let down for me, but hopefully the arc will still be satisfying when it is all said and down (at least revealing the villain so early is original though it was a predictable villain). I think that Cap America will either be killed (saving all the heros with his sacrifice, of course) or will decide to retire by the end of the arc. You do wonder how Peter will be able to get by with not having his identity revealed to at least the Buzz (and when is Darkdevil coming into the story? He was on the cover of #1)

Alright y'all, i'm up to date now, meaning i've got my comics- (i had to use the Jedi-mind trick on my wife to get them...). The only book i couldn't find was the LHS #1, but i'm not worried though, cuz i'm sure i'll find it on my next vist. Anyway, Spider-Girl took me by surprise, like you Jarkoer, i wasn't expectng much, but i was completely enthralled by the story, and the way that May and Franklin interacted together in the last few scenes. Tom was phenomenal in the way he told the story, and he still managed to orchestrate some good action sequences between the heroes, and the villian. Again, like you Jarkoer, i thought Franklin was the centerpiece to this story, especially when he shared with May the secert of the Invisible Woman's disappearence, as well as the "physical" death of Mr. Fantastic. What i really loved about the issue was what was said in the last few panels, "You're the duaghter of Spider-Man, and you'll find a way to win the day!" It just reminds me of the character that this title has, and its' star. LHS #2 was also just as good, although i'm missing the first issue, i still feel as though i have a genral idea of what's goin' on. Even though i was never a huge fan of Captain America, it was still sad to see him so doubtful of himself in the midst of the chaotic situation everyone was in, and how much pressure he must have felt when Thunderstrike made his last comments to him in the exercise room, Tom did a dynamite job writting that scene! Finally, when Dormagmus was captured, i thought it was Normie using the symbiote, well i was definitely wrong! Being that the villian behind this thing is a who HE is, this definitely poses a challenge to the MC-2 heroes, being that the Silver Age heroes are in their declining stages in their careers. I'm looking forward to reading issue #3! Bring on Darkdevil!!

Well as far as Peter's identity raising suspicion to the Buzz, i don't think that matters now- being that they're both imprisioned in those crystalized cells! And as for Tom revealing the villian so soon, well, he had to! It's only a five issue arc, but i understand where you're coming from though, maybe allow the suspense of who's behind everything to build up for another issue. I feel you on that, but other than that, are you enjoying the mini thus far?

LHS #1 was sold out? Cool! Same here in my town. It's really not a "big spoiler" but the biggest thing I took from #1 was when Captain America took off his mask and shirt, his hair was grey and his body was criss-crossed with scars. That was right after he had gotten blasted during a training session. It really choked me up to see him like that.[/spoiler]

Now about LHS #2,
why would Loki kidnap Peter, Wanda and Clint? They've all got their physical limitations now. I'm thinking somehow Loki is going to "heal" them and use them to fight the other heroes. In fact, I think his whole scheme right now is to "discredit" the superhero community by turning many of them "bad". Okay so maybe that's a dumb idea, but I can't think of what else he might be planning. Hee!

I must have missed the panel where the Buzz was kidnapped...I will have to go back and look. I am enjoying for the most part just because you never get to see those characters anymore (I suppose they are trying to create interest with the new FF movie coming out and the Avengers buzz right now). I just wish more people bought Spider-Girl. It's so good that I can't see why everyone doesn't run out and buy it (though we all got different taste. Most of the girls where I work watch that reality TV stuff and I wouldn't touch most of it with a 10 foot pool...except I do like to watch that Home Makeover show)

I have never read any comics with Wild Thing before (I heard she was kinda annoying in previous stories) but I do love her comment about the XPeople always thinking it's about them.

I wish i could get all the back issues of Spider-girl for a reasonable price :( I started with the digest versions, but there are only three books so far....

Ebay doesn't have any deals (I thought you could get for a dollar an issue if you were lucky)?

I have the original What If appearance (sure glad I bought that)

Hey Spideywebs, try an' hook up with some folks around here because some our comic stores vary, and who knows- they might hook you up! Venom's Carnage hooked me up with the "What-If" issue, (Spider-Girls' first appearence)- so you never know! give it a shot!

Did you get it for a good price? I wonder how often they are going to release the digest versions. It would be great if i could buy the issues in bulk.

They rarely have anything for Spider-girl as in bulk sets there. :(

They've got one there now. If you do a search for "Spidergirl" as one word and without the hyphen, I found an auction on eBay for Spidergirl #0-84. It's ending on June 12th, but the bid (last I checked) was sitting at $51. :)

Thanks :) I'll go check it out. :D

That is the sucky thing about Ebay. If you bid someone can just outbid you. Hope you get another chance soon

Sorry to hear about the loss in the bidding wars on Ebay, Spideywebs! But don't worry, until you get that collection, you can back track here in this thread to get the gist of what went on before hand. Well i know that isn't the greatest, but it's the best i could offer!

On a side note, after re-reading issue #87, i noticed the lack of patience, and teamwork on the part of F5 offsprings, especially Torus, and then the straw that broke everything- Jake. It seemed as if Fanklin could have bested Apox if not for the lack of comraderie, and ability to follow an order by the younger members. May's expierence definitely was the glue to ensuring that no lives were lost in this issue. Can't wait for Normie, er- Norman, to unleash his newly "rendered control" of the symbiote! I wonder will he take on a Goblin-esqe form when totally covered by the symbiote. I can't wait! Also, did you get the feeling that Reed is still alive, after Franklin told May the truth about Sue?

Yeah, the F5 children acted like kids playing a school yard game trying to grab all the glory for themselves instead of working together. Hee! You'd think that after seeing Apox whup the Avengers' collective butts that they wouldn't be so quick to go one-on-one with the guy. Ha! Ha! And Torus was an absolute "Scrappy" in that isssue. Lucky for him he wasn't killed. Franklin did an okay job, but you could tell he was really new at being a leader. When he gets a few more years experience at being a leader, he'll be okay. With the Skrulls up to something and Apox running amuck, I'm really looking forward to the climax of this thing. Now this is how a three issue arc ought to be written! :)

Not sure what's up with Normie, but I haven't been this stoked about his character since #27. Good stuff!

Hey Jarkoer, i like the "Scrappy" refernce to Torus! "Lemme at 'em! Lemme at 'em!" LOL! Whatever the Skrulls are up to, i wonder how it will affect Lydia, a.k.a. Ms. Fantasic, being that she is Skrull. They've already made mention that Apox is just their pawn, and already believe that he eventually be defeated in the long run, so next issue should definitely be worth waiting to read!

Tomorrow is issue # 3 of Last Hero Standing!! hopefully i'll be able to find the first issue too!
