I'm in pretty good standings with the manager over at my comic shop, Altered States(How You Play The Game). Next time I ride up there(Soon) I'm going to have a talk with him. If I order out 100 issues, and tell him to give 1 away, along with a pre typed letter written by me(with some extra signatures for good luck), to every person that buys a comic in whatever pre determined date.

You're my new hero!

Wow! You guys have it going on over here! Sorry I've been absent a couple of days.

I got an idea. After we get done with THIS wave of letters, how about stirring up some hype of our own? Like maybe asking our comic store owner to hang a flier up at our local store?

(This has a spoiler to #97, though, but any kind of SG flier that people can make, I'm thinking.)

Since we're asking our stores to order more copies, this would definitely help to get those copies into people's hands. If we each do this in our local areas, and it happens all over the nation, imagine how many new readers we'll get!

About my flier, Molly's been around for a year now, but I think she's really been helping out in the last couple of issues. :)

EDIT: I fixed the link.

Hey so, I was thinking that in honor of Spider-Girl, even if it does get cancelled (but to help generate some hype), I would make my own web site dedicated to all things Spider-Girl. If I could get some help from you guys posting pictures I could turn into bios (full body images, unobstructed) of all of the main characters and villains... that would be awesome. Thanks guys, I hope I can make something you guys would get a kick out of.

You know, that just reminded me of back in th' day when I was gonna do two fansites; Claw City an' Spiders Web. I had th' Spiders Web title with all th' major Spider character versions at th' time up. Looked pretty hot.

AH crap GoLive expired... know any good Web Design programs that are.. how you say... free?

Hi, Guys!

Things have gotten crazy, again. You may have been wondering why I haven't been telling you what's up. The reason is quite simple. I'm not sure what's going on or what the future will bring. I have spoken to various people at Marvel and have heard various plans, ideas, suggestions and possible scenarios--all of which change with the hours.

Here's the bottom line--we have been losing a few hundred readers every month. Is it because the comic book stores are spending all their dollars on the big events? Or is it because we're just not intriguing people enough? I suspect both factors--and a lot of others--are at play.

Here's what we know--the only way to help the sales of Spider-Girl is to put her on your pull list and encourage your friends to also put her on their pull lists. You can encourage store owners to put extra copies on their shelves...but that is a decision they'll have to make.

DO NOT BUY MULTIPLE COPIES...unless you intend to give them to specific people for personal reasons. I often buy multiple copies of books I like because I want to share those books with friends and family...but I don't want you guys buying up multiple copies of Spider-Girl out of a misplaced sense of loyalty. Your money can be put to better use. (Like PIZZA!)

Here's what the team and I are doing...
1) We're still talking to Marvel.
2) We're trying to make the book even better.
3) Spider-Girl #97 is a great jumping on point and it does bring back the original Hobgoblin.
4) The lead up to and the climax we plan for Spider-Girl #100 will be a GREAT ride...for you long-time readers and new guys as well. (If it's our last issue, we'll be going out in a blaze of glory. If it ain't, the guys and I are realllllly going to have to work hard to top it.)
5) LAST PLANET STANDING will go ahead as promised. (However, depending on what happens to Spider-Girl, the ending may change and even surprise Marvel.)
6)And just so there's no confusion--I've talked to the team and we're all ready to sign up for another 100 issues!

On behalf of the entire team, I want to thank you guys for all your support! You are the GREATEST!

HOO-HA!
Tom D.

He's really a class act, ain't he?

Unlike Joey Q and his deuche bag comments....

NRAMA: Quickly, we also mentioned Spider-Girl a few moments ago… a couple of days ago you guys confirmed for us it’s ending… again.
JQ: Yeah, unfortunately all good things must end.
NRAMA: A cynic might suggest this is just a marketing push for its 100th issue. So to put on the devil’s advocate pointy horns hat - what are the odds of it getting yet another reprieve?
JQ: I’m all out of gimmicks [laughs]. Spider-Girl has had a legendary run, it was the little book that could. Let me just say this, I don’t think she’s gone for good, well until at least “Last Planet Standing.”
NRAMA: So then, any parting comments? JQ: Unfortunately, it is truly ending but look for “Last Planet Standing,” for what could be her very last appearance. But unfortunately, outside of a last minute call from the Governor, Spider- Girl is canceled. It’s been fun watching fans rally around this title over the years and I’m as sad as all of them, but like I said, I can’t let emotion get in the way of what I see as the proper business decision.

He's all out of gimmicks. That's rich. Last time I checked, the only "gimmick" he ever attempted to promote Spider-Girl was trying to give her name to Arana.

Fortunately for Spider-Girl, our bag of gimmicks is bottomless.

You know, I look at this thread - at the very first page - and there's BS starting it, and a few responses (one from me).

That was four years ago.

Now I'm not a very active member of this community. Infact, I only visit this site a couple of times a year. But when I do, it's always to check up on this very thread.

Four years. If that doesn't tell the guys at Marvel something, then I honestly don't know what will...

That was supposed to be the cover to issue 61 BTW, when the book truly ends (And I gurantee it ain't happening this August) we'll be seeing it again.

Well, according to Mr. Defalco Marvel doesn't know what the hell it's doing...

According to Quesada Spider-Girl is getting cancelled no matter what happens. :(

Defalco rules.

Quesada = *****e bag

How can Defalco work with someone like him? Someone who seems to have absolutely no idea what he's doing?!

Man, I was just thinking about how Spider-Girl got renewed to # 106 yesterday and I find out it's getting cancelled at # 100. BULL****!!!!! Yeah, go ahead and cancel one of the best Spider-Man titles. That's really smart. :(

:down

I can't believe they're actually thinking about pulling the plug on a book that means so much to so many people. I mean, haven't we proven already that this book has a reason for staying on?

Surely it will not be a make or brake situation for Marvel to just keep Spider-Girl in the stands.

You know what really pisses me off to no end?

That this is probably one of the more entertaining Spider-Man titles each and every month. This is a book that still holds the essence of the Spider-Man world that has so quickly drifted away in the regular universe....

Yet...Spider-Girl, through the low sales, strived for 100 issues. Now if a book like that could literally be saved from cancellation on more than ONE occassion...wouldn't you put a little into the book? Wouldn't you advertise in your other books? Wouldn't you advertise in other mainstream media like the other books? Would Spider-Girl be getting cancelled...AGAIN...if Marvel had advertised the book properly?

You mean to tell me there are little girls out there who would leap at this book...knowing it's Spider-Man...but a teenage girl?! They would!! But they don't know about it because they don't know it exists!!!!!!!!!

Joe Quesada needs to stop worrying about stupid big events that, honestly, end up sucking or being completely mediocre...yet a great book like Spider-Girl gets no help from the boys up in the offices. It's the little things that help make comics what they are. Spider-Man started out as something little back in 1962 and has turned into one of the most beloved ficitonal characters in the world. So, I think what Marvel needs to do is reevaluate themselves and realize what makes them great...and what makes them suck.

And they are definitely going to find a lot of things in the "suck" category. :(

Yeah, Marvel has really been "hiding" this book. We're talking minimal space in Previews and not so much as a whisper in the other Spidey books. And then Joe goes "I'm all out of gimmicks"... The way I see it, they haven't really fought for this. It's been all Tom and the fans, from day one.

Tell me Spider-Girl fans, has Doc Ock ever been featured in Spider-Girl?? And if so,what issues were they???

Doc Ock hasn't appeared in the pages of Spider Girl, but Carolyn Trainer (Doc Ock II, Lady Octopus) had a large role in the book from Issue 68 - 78

I'm pretty sure Doc Ock showed up briefly in the final issue of the Buzz miniseries. That would be issue No. 3.

Otto has since died of cancer. Sorry to have to break that to you.
