Comics Doesn't anyone else read Spider-Girl??

You know what really pisses me off to no end?

That this is probably one of the more entertaining Spider-Man titles each and every month. This is a book that still holds the essence of the Spider-Man world that has so quickly drifted away in the regular universe....

Yet...Spider-Girl, through the low sales, strived for 100 issues. Now if a book like that could literally be saved from cancellation on more than ONE occassion...wouldn't you put a little into the book? Wouldn't you advertise in your other books? Wouldn't you advertise in other mainstream media like the other books? Would Spider-Girl be getting cancelled...AGAIN...if Marvel had advertised the book properly?

You mean to tell me there are little girls out there who would leap at this book...knowing it's Spider-Man...but a teenage girl?! They would!! But they don't know about it because they don't know it exists!!!!!!!!!

Joe Quesada needs to stop worrying about stupid big events that, honestly, end up sucking or being completely mediocre...yet a great book like Spider-Girl gets no help from the boys up in the offices. It's the little things that help make comics what they are. Spider-Man started out as something little back in 1962 and has turned into one of the most beloved ficitonal characters in the world. So, I think what Marvel needs to do is reevaluate themselves and realize what makes them great...and what makes them suck.

And they are definitely going to find a lot of things in the "suck" category. :(
They really are missing a lucrative marketing goldmine. At least DC puts out some Supergirl and Batgirl stuff, why doesn't Marvel do the same? They could easily rope in younger girls with stuff like Spidergirl clothing and such, especially considering how much the movies have grossed.

I'm pretty sure Doc Ock showed up briefly in the final issue of the Buzz miniseries. That would be issue No. 3.

Otto has since died of cancer. Sorry to have to break that to you.

Yeah Ock did show up in the last part of the Buzz mini series after being behind the scenes in the last two parts.

Been a while since I read that mini but i remember Ock having cancer and ready to die.He was angry over Spider-Man 's final battle being with the Green Goblin and not him,so he decided to take things out on JJJ and the Daily Bugle.

Is Spider-Girl like an alternate reality or universe thing??

Because Ock never had cancer in 616.

Actually, it's an alternate FUTURE. But many of us consider it to be the definite future of the Marvel Universe.

Make that it's th' alternate future of 1998 Marvel. Anythin' that happend later had little or no effect on th' SG-verse. Meanin' Scarlet Witch ain't crazy, Hawkeye ain't dead, an' The Other who? Cap's dead, though. It was a good death.

Hmm, yeah... I forgot that part. Another reason why SG is a terribly interesting read. It has many odd twists and turns that way, and if you really like Marvel there's a lot of goodies in store for you.

No. it's an alternate universe (Earth 982), I've got the floor fellow equivelant of Kramer bursting into my room every hour, holding an OHTMU and giving me 'did you know" comments on Marvel and DC.

Like I said, it's not a future, it's "Age of Marvels" just happened 15 years prior to the 616's

Hey guys!

If you don't have a car or if you don't know where all the comic stores are in your local area, here's the latest and greatest idea to make this campaign really work! :)

A post by Jeffers ...

I can call it a fantastic idea, because it isn't mine. This came from Amy.

First, print off a few copies of one of the fliers promoting No. 97 (or create your own). You can find some samples in these posts:

http://www.comicboards.com/spidergirl/view.php?rpl=060121025708

Then, mail them to several comic book shops in your area. You can find addresses using this site.

http://www.freecomicbookday.com/fcbd_locator.asp

Here is a sample letter you can use to accompany the flier.

Dear Retailer:

As you may have heard, Marvel Comics intends to cancel Spider-Girl with issue No. 100. As you also may have heard, Marvel has canceled Spider-Girl several times in the past, and her friends have always come to her rescue. We intend to do it again.

Enclosed is a flier advertising the April issue of Spider-Girl, issue No. 97, which features the return of the Hobgoblin, a popular villain who has not appeared in the regular Spider-Man books for a decade. If Marvel actually publicized this event, we believe orders for Spider-Girl No. 97 would be huge. Once again we fans decided that if Marvel won’t do it, we will!

Please hang the enclosed flier in your store. It won’t cost you anything but a few pieces of tape, and it could increase your profits.

Thank you for your time,

Sincerely,

If you do anything to help save Spider-Girl, do this! Getting fliers into comic book shops are the simplest, fastest and probably the most effective way we have of increasing her sales.

Thanks, Amy!

Not true. Some things, like Spidey's tenure as an Avenger, Arana and Mattie Franklin, have all been referenced.

Thanks for the link. Thats very interesting. Earth 982... Hmmm....

All this recent "earth-talk" is giving me a feeling we'll be seeing our very own "crisis" before too long.

Ahem...LITTLE TO NO EFFECT. Then there was somethin' after that to put it into context, bunky.

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It might be over??????!!!!!!!

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive been buying all the mini-book reprints to catch up! I love these stories!!!

Even got the DarkDevil mini series which was fantastic!!!

Tom we love you!!!

What can i do to help???

Well, I just started picking up Spider-Girl, and I have to say, I could only WISH that the 616 Spidey titles were this damn good!

Continuity....nods to the old 616 Spider-titles....VENOM....this is a great read!

So, now I'm on the "Save Spider-Girl" Bandwagon....now what? How the hell can we stop this book from being cancelled?! Cancel ASM, but don't cancel this!!!! DAMMIT!!!

I know, I'll write a letter! It'll go like this:

Dear Marvel,

If you cancel Spider-Girl, then you suck more than an actress auditioning for a gig in prono. Not that you don't suck pretty hard already...

Your pal,
Lyle

Unfortunately a letter like that won't help much, though we'd all like to send those words. Politeness will win the day. Tell Marvel why you like Spider-Girl and why you think it would be a mistake to cancel her. You might question the business sense of cutting off the digests, too, because they sell at least 50,000 copies each. Her monthly sales may be low, but in the graphic-novel category the Spider-Girl digests are about the hottest things Marvel has going. The character is not a failure, as Quesada would like the world to believe.

What we believe would be the quickest, easiest and most effective way to boost Spider-Girl's sales is printing out a flier that promotes the return of the Hobgoblin in Spider-Girl No. 97 and asking your comic shop to post it. It may be even better to mail fliers to comic shops. Scroll up a little and look for Jarkoer's post on the matter.

Together, we can save Spider-Girl again!

Welcome back TW, and as always- you see we're once again faced with ANOTHER battle on our hands to save our girl! Glad you're back on the boards, hows your New Year been? Whatever happened with the music? Details, i need details! (LOL!) Anyway guys, i've been here in Chicago since last week visting with family, but that doesn't mean i'm on vacation with my efforts of saving our favorite title. I had my 8 year old nephew to compose a few letters to Marvel, after i brought him some Spider-Girl comics, and he was HUNGRY for more when i shared the news. He said, "Uncle, WHY are canceling Spider-Girl? I really like the stories." So he took the books i brought him to his school to share with his friends, and he told me that they liked Spider-Girl too! So Marvel has to know the market is wide open for them to market this title to the younger kids. Since i've been here, i've written two more letters to Marvel- so let's continue fighting the good fight guys'!

Been busy updating this website me and BJC started back during the 2004 Media Blitz campaign.

http://www.freewebs.com/savespidergirl/

Still working on it as I come up with new ideas. BJC was turning this into a personal gallery for his art, but I haven't heard from him in a while. So I'm taking over, damn it! Basically I'm trying to turn it into a "transit station" where people can get information about this campaign and to serve as an introduction to the character to new readers. I also wanted to link information so that people can go to other web sites, and get more of an experience out of Spider-Girl than just this site.

Feedback is welcomed. I'm thinking about posting campaign fliers, banners and such there for downloading over the next couple of days. If there's any other "Save Spider-Girl" web sites or discussion groups out there, please let me know and I'll put in a link.
