Dr. Lecter Invites you to Dinner. The ''Hannibal'' Thread - Part 1

I really do think Gwendoline is absolutely ****ing perfect for Margot. Every since Fuller mentioned that we'd meet them in season 2, which I ****ing love the idea of, every damn time I see her on GoT I'm like "Yuuuup, she has to be Margot!"

As for Mason, I dunno there at all. Trying to think of somebody who has a similar feel to a young Oldman but I just keep thinking of GoT actors now lol. For some reason though I feel like someone like Johnny Lee Miller would fit in good here not neccesarily as Verger, but just his energy would fit well here. Or Michael Pitt, oohhhh!!! There's who I want as Verger! Gwendoline Christie as Margot, Michael Pitt for Mason. Casting done! BOOM!!! *Drops microphone*

Seriously though! Have you ever seen Michael Pitt in Funny Games?! He'd be so ****ing perfect here. Hell, Brady Corbet would fit in perfectly too. Y'all done got my mind swimming with possibilities now. What about Jame Gumb? Do you guys think any of these choices should in any way resemble their film counterparts? I don't really think so but Jame Gumb should at the very least have that deep voice. In and ideal world? Michael Shannon as either Dollarhyde or Gumb, almost doesn't matter there that much. Sucks Chlumsky was used already for Miriam (and a huge nod to Clarice as is anyways) cuz I think she'd be ****ing perfect for Clarice. Least, tv Clarice

I could really see Pitt as Verger. I dunno, maybe it's because Oldman's voice was so soft like Pitt's or because, as you mentioned, in Funny Games he came off as so casually sadistic in a way that works for Mason. The dude isn't delusional in the way that Dolarhyde or Gumb were, he was just plain evil.

Christ just thinking about seeing Bryan Fuller's take on Dolarhyde's delusions has me giddy.

I thought it was a fantastic finale. I really can't wait till the show comes back.

Right? Pitt would be PERFECT. Dude has this insanely cold quality about him, I've been saying since back when he was on Dawson's Creek that the kid was going places but I never thought he'd be able to play some of the stuff he has. Plus, I can totally see him and Gwendoline as twins

Michael Pitt could be a good young Verger. He's definitely creepy.

I don't think it's necessary for this show's Verger, Dolarhyde, etc. to look like any previous actor, though Dolarhyde should be muscular IMO because it's a key part of his character.

I really wanna know exactly how Hannibal makes people swallow their tongues. I want a scene of that damn it!

Could be a form of hypnotism. A key word, a specific instance, some sort of trigger might get them to automatically kill themselves. Not too far fetched if the 'victim' has spent hours upon hours in therapy with Lecter messing around in their brain.

In Silence of The Lambs he managed to convince Multiple Miggs to swallow his own tongue in a matter of hours, but I think that was a different circumstance. Less hypnotism, more hounding on Miggs' own suicidal tenancies until the guy broke. Simple enough for a fellow as skilled as Lecter. Getting a person to swallow their tongue in any other scenario, I can only think of the theory above.

I don't think swallowing your tongue is something you can just do on command though. Like you can't break your own neck

For those wondering how Will will prove his innocence while in prison, maybe the answer is in the following quote of Fuller from this interview:

http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-wa...-finale-and-whats-next-for-dr-lecter-and-will

But I think when we see Jack Crawford and Freddie Lounds together post events of the first season, their relationship will be considerably different, because she will have access to a greater story, and she will be telling the story that Jack Crawford knows to be true. That will change the dynamic a little bit. I think there's something really exciting about Freddie Lounds being an unexpected ally of Will Graham's in the second season.

Hmm..

P.S. THAT final scene of the season finale gave me goosebumps!! Amazing :hrt::hrt:

I just realized with Hannibal now off the air, I have no regular TV show. At one point a few months ago (possibly last year?) I had 7!

In Hannibal Rising, Uncle Robert is already dead when young-adult Hannibal meets and begins a quasi-romantic relationship with Robert's Asian widow.

This news intrigues me. I wonder what Fuller's plans are, introducing one of Hannibal relatives who would have played a pivotal role in young Hannibal's life. The only thing that irks me about this is I'd prefer not to learn about this new Hannibal's origins until later on in the series. I'm really enjoying the mystery surround Hannibal's life. IMO, Hannibal Rising was a stupid cash-cow attempt by Thomas Harries that was not necessary whatsoever. I would have much preferred him to pen a proper sequel to 'Hannibal' in which our favorite cannibal was once again hunted (and ultimately captured) by the police.

Don't put the blame for Rising on Harris, put it on Dino De Laurentiis.

Ugh! Even just thinking about a new novel post-Hannibal about his recapture makes me get a massive nerd *****. There should be some closure to the characters ya know? Bring back Will to help find Hannibal and Clarice. Not sure what to do about Clarice, maybe un-brainwash her somehow or something. Just goes to show how extensively Hannibal can get into people's heads. Omg I want that novel now!

Pretty much, he told Harris that if he didn't do the prequel, then he would just get someone else. And Harris didn't like the idea of not being involved, so we ended up with Hannibal Rising.

I don't blame De Laurentis for wanting to give the people more Hannibal material. He was right in pushing Harris to continue the series. I do blame Harris for giving us what ultimately became Hannibal: Rising. Even die-hard fans could come up with better fan fiction than that.

I think the biggest problem with Hannibal Rising is that they didn't give it time to develop. Harris usually takes long periods of time between novels.

Biggest problem was that it was mostly a by-the-numbers revenge film that turned Hannibal into a anti-hero. Nothing really special about it.

And that comes from Harris not trying to dig deep into that freaky mind of his to add anything imaginative. He basically just sat by his computer and thought "**** how can I top Verger or Dolarhyde?.....**** it. Nazis." For Harris, writing is a long and arguous process yet he usually ends up doing some deeply imaginative stuff. For HR there was none of that because he knew he didn't have the time or motivation to really do that.
