Dr. Lecter Invites you to Dinner. The ''Hannibal'' Thread - Part 2

Some anonymous wrote this at another site about the MGM-Lifetime *beep* (of course, it's anonymous and there isn't a single source, so beware and take this with a grain of salt):

They've been wanting to do a Clarice spin-off for AGES and never been able to get a network to greenlight it, especially after Lifetime bought the rights and then sat on them, supposedly because Gillian Anderson told them to *beep* off when they approached her back during Gillian's "death to america" period when she lived in the UK and refused to do US TV in the 00s

So when Hannibal first aired, MGM were all *****y about not letting Fuller use Clarice in future seasons but then got pissy when he went public with this AND Hannibal proved to be a financially viable show, making MGM pissy because not only did it hurt their chances to do a Clarice spin-off themselves, it meant they had ZERO leverage to get the Hannibal Lecter TV rights themselves for their show. So they are suing Lifetime to punish them for dragging their feet and allowing Fuller to get his show on the air first

Does anybody understand -in case it's true- if this would actually turn to be a good thing for Fuller if they still want the rights? I'm confused  (because to me doesn't sound good-even if they don't proceed with the show, maybe they'll have a spite against Fuller)

Lifetime has the rights still so I doubt it would help any. I don't even know why MGM would be suing Lifetime. Lifetime paid to get the rights to the characters and do what they want with them which means they don't have to do damn thing.

This week looks interesting for future implications of the show.

Yea I saw that earlier on Facebook. Hope to god it happens. I need this show

Haha, you're welcome.

And no indeed.

I guess this should at least partially assuage the fears of those who were worried that the options to be on other networks had closed (I mean, Fuller clearly says that, "There are many more options than there have been in the past"), as well as those like Matt who've said getting picked up by other networks is a "pipe dream" or whatever.

Margot at this still made me laugh.

Mason looks great, I can't wait to see how the Batman-Joker relationship Fuller talked about.

What exactly do you expect the showrunner to say? "If we get cancelled it is over,"?

The love montage was delightfully beautiful and surreal. They outLynched David Lynch. Plus, the actress who played Margot is gorgeous.

:hrt: Katharine Isabelle :hrt:
Where has she been all my life?

I feel like Will has Freddie tied up somewhere.

I feel like Will has Freddie tied up somewhere.

I'm guessing he did, but explained everything to her and now she's just hiding out until Wills plan to expose Hannibal is as the Chesapeake Ripper is finished.

"The meat is bitter that it's dead."

I love that line. :lmao:

Yup. That's exactly my thought too.

Oh my god. Just stop. Talk about belief perseverance. Christ. Have some hope for once.

Why the hell would Fuller say something like that? If he wasn't confident, he wouldn't be saying that he's confident. In fact, it's unlikely that he'd say anything at all if there were no backup plans and there was no hope. I can understand this sort of mentality when, say, an actor is promoting their film, but the guy is discussing the continuation of his show. I mean, did you even read the article? Did you actually see what he said? Or did you just go off of what I said?

I think I know the answer.

*braces for page-long response*

I love how the line is a nice reference to one of my favorite poems: in the desert, by Stephen Crane

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered;

“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”
