Animation Dragonball HQ - Part 1

Ah, so once the Tournament of Power Saga hits Amazon Prime it'll be several seasons long? These 13-episode arcs are killing me. :funny:

The Tournament of Power is Episodes #77-131. It's the longest but also the worst arc in the series because of it's length. The production fell apart near the end and was only salvaged by Episode #130 and #131 using all of the series' best animators and directors.

I honestly thought Super's arcs were too long. Stretching two movies into twenty-seven episodes was way too much. The Champa arc was also about six or seven episodes too long. The best arc was the Gokuu Black arc but even then that lasted about two episodes too long and had way too much back-and-forth time travel.

I loved the Goku Black/Zamasu arc.

I'm also assuming that Gogeta still isn't considered canon? Considering Goku and Vegeta opted to merge via earrings instead of doing the fusion technique to take down Zamasu.

Canon doesn't really exist. For the purposes of Dragon Ball Super: Broli Toriyama included the Gogeta character in his script. I hate the fusions but the Gogeta fight scene was a non-stop six minute tour de force of top-level animators going all out so I quite enjoyed it.

I felt the Universe survival arc had its highs and lows but I felt most of it came because the length due to the slow pace. It felt like the older Z arcs where there some episodes that didn't have much happen or were just setup for the next episode. It was also more episodic than the usual DB arc but I think binging it could probably be the best way to watch although watching it live week to week was fun lol. There were great episodes and moments throughout the arc that made it worthwhile. Tho ill agree the finale was the best finale of an arc imo.
Now im just waiting for them to announce the sequel already...

It's in production. Connections of a connection I have confirmed that it's in production. It'll come out as early as April, July or October--probably the latter two dates. Nakamura Ryouta is MIA since August (he was the second series director of the Tournament of Power and personally directed #130) and Satou Masaki let slip that he was working on a work for Toei Animation (it's been forever since he worked there) as well as working with Shintani Naohiro (the character designer of Movie #20). There is to say nothing of other anon sources Ajay has.

Seeing this in IMAX in a couple of weeks. Feeling pretty damn good about it.

Not gunna lie....calling the tingly back feeling "That Tingle" or "The Tingle" comes off...a bit suggestive........ XD

So, this is me playing Xenoverse 2 like a pro.

A bit bummed that the one theater showing Broly is mostly sold out already. I hope they add viewings.

Got my tickets for Saturday. I'm surprised that nearly every showing I've looked at here is either sold out or has all the good seats taken. Didn't think it would be that popular.

The ending for Goku Black was pointless and beyond anti-climactic.

I hated the use of Vegetto in the Gokuu Black arc. Toriyama original had Gokuu and Vegeta team up to defeat Zamasu but both Toyo-tarou and Hatano Morio (with Tomioka Atsuhiro) decided to use Vegetto Blue. That really took the wind out of the sales of the momentum. I wish Gokuu, Vegeta and Trunks had managed to defeat Merged Zamasu together. As for the ending, it seemed pretty in line with Toriyama's usual lack of sentimentality.

Of course you would say that...ningen filth.

The Vegeta vs Broly fight might be one of the best animated scenes I have ever scene. The way they drew Vegeta was perfect.

Wonder if Super will have some episodes that are part of the Broly movie like they did with the other movies?

Really enjoyed it.

Props to Frieza for lasting an hour against Broly. Mini Vegeta and Raditz were adorable. :funny:

from Deadline
Early AM industry estimates are in showing that Funimation’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly had a super opening day with $7.06M at 1,250 venues leading all films at the box office, and overtaking STXfilm/Lantern’s The Upside for the day ($1.69M) and the fourth Wednesday of Warner Bros. Aquaman ($1.2M).

Anyone know when this is going to be available for purchase with English Dub?

Vegeta versus Broli was had Takahashi Yuuya as animation supervisor. Takahashi grew up watching the Majin Buu arc in the early 1990s and has always been inspired by how Yamamuro Tadayoshi designed the characters at that time. Takahashi specifically mentions that his style (which he started using in Dragon Ball Super during the Tournament of Power) is based on the look of the first Broli movie, the Jamenba movie and the Hirudegarn movie. The first portion of Gokuu's fight with Broli is animated entirely by Oonishi Ryou himself and then after that Takahashi supervises Super Saiyan God Gokuu being beaten by Broli.

Wonder if Super will have some episodes that are part of the Broly movie like they did with the other movies?

I hope so! Nagamine mentioned that when he, Mitsuka and Karasawa originally finished their storyboards they had enough material for a film that was twice the intended 90 minute run time but were allowed to reduce it down to 100 minutes instead of just 90. This means that there is enough material for nine weekly episodes of the television series.
