Animation Dragonball HQ - Part 1

I hope so! Nagamine mentioned that when he, Mitsuka and Karasawa originally finished their storyboards they had enough material for a film that was twice the intended 90 minute run time but were allowed to reduce it down to 100 minutes instead of just 90. This means that there is enough material for nine weekly episodes of the television series.

I'd kill for the 3 hour Toriyama cut of the movie....

But yeah I full expect them to use the unused material for when Super comes back.

A three hour cut would be awesome, although I'm not sure that'll happen since One Piece has a new film coming out and I do not doubt once One Piece: Stampede is finished they'll want to start production on a new Dragon Ball movie for December 2020. There's also the fact that the new Dragon Ball series is currently in production so the number of available animators is tremendously split.

Broly's current domestic box office gross of $12.8 million makes it the 7th highest grossing anime film released in the US, and its current global gross of $69.9 million has it sitting at the #17 spot of Highest Grossing Anime films in the world. It needs about $65 million more globally to crack the Top Ten highest grossing anime films of all time.

Seen it but these two goofy ass nerds ruined my experience. In here as grown man doing air kamehamehas and super saiyan screams and punch sounds like some damn children.

Like they wouldnt sthu!!!! Definition of doing too much

Also watched it and it was dope. Certainly top tier for Dragon ball

I'm at that point of thinking...2019 has already peaked with this film. What a great experience.

The film was way better than I thought it would be. Really enjoyed it.

Cheelai was the only new character I didn't like. Her motivations made no sense.

Her motivation made perfect sense. She was an empathetic person, and she wanted to get laid.

She wanted to climb him like a tree

But did you see that ass tho?

According to Lanipator, Cheelai's ass had more screen time than Bardock...which Im inclined to agree XD

In other news

BOM’s weekend end estimates are in and Broly’s current projections are $4.9 million on Saturday and 3.3 million for Sunday brining it’s weekend gross to $10.6 million and a total lifetime gross of $21 million.

It is now the 3rd highest grossing anime film in the United States (behind Pokemon the First Movie and Pokemon 2000 respectively) and is currently sitting at #13 at highest grossing anime film of all time globally. It only needs about $57 million more to crack the Top 10 highest grossing anime films of all time. And due to the fact that it hasn’t opened up in Europe and other parts of Asia...woo boy there’s a chance that Broly brings in the bacon.

Correction Broly’s current global gross is estimated to be around $86.9 million which would make it the 12th highest grossing anime film in the world. Meaning it only needs 48 million more to hit the top 10.

Just got back from this. I thought it was good. Never saw DB on the big screen so that was really cool.
The movie was pretty good. Animation was crazy. I mean most of my complaints have been around with DBS. Not enough of the side characters. I also thought it took too long for things to get going in true DB fashion. Like other than seeing Goku's mom I didn't need to see Freiza blowing up Planet Vegeta again. And I guess they're retconning a lot from Bardock Father of Goku?

I think I still prefer Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan (I always pronounced it like "Bra-lee") movie. I prefer Broly as this evil unstoppable monster instead of how sympathetic they made him in this one. I liked they gave him some nuance, but I still wanted him to be evil not just misunderstood
I also don't like
how they made Broly a friend in the end. They do that a lot in Super. Way too much. Keep enemies. I feel like Super doesn't have any real enemies. DBZ had evil Buu, Cell, etc.

But I liked this. Will pick up the Blu Ray

On other notes:
-I really hope they bring Cooler into the canon. Love that guy
-If they don't stop disrespecting my boy Gohan...enough is enough

Yeah but that's like 1 out like all the major villains introduced in Super right?

Although the Zamazu/Future Trunks saga is my favorite Super arc from what I've watched.

Well they only, really, had 3 arcs where it was a "save the earth" scenario (Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, Future Trunks) and two of the three main antagonists were pretty evil. Even if one was a carry over from Z.

Plus, they got Planet Eater Moro on the horizon for when it returns and that guy seems pretty satanic.

Ah well I shall look forward to that.

I didn't know it was coming back. That's cool

Production started in September/October. Key staff are MIA from other Toei Animation productions and we have behind-the-scenes confirmation from certain people involved with the project. If the broadcast date isn't mentioned sometime this month then I suspect it will not premier in April, at least. My hope is for a October 2019 broadcast so that the series can get a healthy production schedule, especially with One Piece: Stampede likely to drain all of the available animators. I think the only animator we know that is not working on One Piece: Stampede is Shida Naotoshi, thankfully.

I'm really enjoying the Moro storyline in the comic right now. I hope the cartoon adapts it after doing a nine episode version of the Broli movie.

Honestly I think the Broly movie adaption could go anywhere from 12-17 episodes. I mean you could do at least 5 episodes alone set in the past.

We know that Nagamine, Mitsuka and Karasawa storyboarded enough material for nine episodes based off of Toriyama's script so for the sake of brevity I think it'd be best to just stick to that unless they come up with some other ideas that really, really flesh out Broli, Chirai and Lemo more. These arcs are best kept as short as possible because there just isn't enough story to them for double digit episodes.

I've been wondering if it's actually One Punch Man that is due in April, not Super supposedly. I agree though, more production time would be nice, but I wouldn't want to wait until October.

Listening to Korey and Martin of Double Toasted talk about Broly is HI-larious
