Fantasy Dungeons & dragons movie discussion

I played D&D Neverwinter a ton in the past. This makes me want to go back to it.

I know actually ZERO about D&D so all the winks and nods went right over my head, but this was a very good time, nonetheless. I can't believe the duo that made this and Game Night, another absolute blast, are the same guys who did that awful Vacation remake. What a f***ing glow-up. I think their Flash film would likely have been awesome, but I can't say I blame them for jumping that ship lol. If they're DC guys, IDK if they're interested in television but I think they'd KILL IT on Booster Gold.

I gotta know Jarnathan's story and how he knows all these people who only use him for that one thing. :hehe:

Yeah DC, sign these guys up asap!

Saw this today. Greatly enjoyed it.

"Whats 2+2"
"I'm bad at math" [dies]

I enjoyed the creature work, even if it was mostly cgi. The dragon people. The cat people. Jarnathan.

Just got home, this was splendid. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and was even surprised to see myself laugh out loud during several moments. A lot of heart and a lot of fun. Despite the genericism of many elements, I was happy to see a lot of creativity or fresh takes on basic stuff. Glad it's getting warm reception all around, and I hope that's enough to translate to a potential sequel even if the BO numbers might not warrant it.

Chris Pine also just continues to widen the gap as the best Chris.

So, there's basically just one question that matters to me:

Does the paladin character exist purely to be incompetent and/or evil, or is he actually allowed to be legitimately heroic ( if perhaps off-screen because not main character )?

He is neither incompetent or evil, he is in fact the portrayed as highly intelligent and helpful and gets a couple of the best heroic moments in the film.

I was worried going in he would be like Drax from GOTG, kind of played dumb and unaware of the things being said in jest at his expense but in fact he is very intelligent and it is the rest that are incompetent compared to him. They just dont find him as fun as he comes across as near perfect and very straight compared to the rest who are sort of more flawed characters.

Its a shame he wasnt in the movie throughout as his dynamic with the rest of them really worked well and was an awful lot of fun in his stoicism, plus he had the best fight scenes and some of the best lines.

I certainly would want more Xenk next time out of there was one.

This is a really fun film so I definitely hope they get a sequel. Going to see it again this weekend.

was he not there? or was he just standing so still no-one knew he was there?

Enjoyed this though not quite as much as the critic's. It's basically a Guardians of the Galaxy with a different setting. But the cast are all game and the world building is pretty good. Some heartfelt moments also which hell you root for the characters.

I would absolutely see a sequel but the BO ain't looking great at the moment. 8/10.

Big shame that projects like this don't seem to light up the box office but they did a great job with a property that could easily have gone wrong. I really loved it.

Yeah its gonna need serious legs to get a sequel but there’s is just too much coming out. I think this would have done better in August.

True, I don’t remember a year having so many good or notable films at this time of year.

It's probably still movies releasing and delays from Covid. Hopefully next year is a bit more balanced out.

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, Meg 2, and Blue Beetle are coming out in August tho... ;) (also The Last Voyage of the Demeter, but that one probably has limited mass appeal)
