E3 2011 - Part 2

Something I've noticed is that most of the big games are those that are either a sequel to a good game, or part of a well known franchise. I haven't really seen any new original games.

The same is true for anything else, it's not unique to video games. Spending money on a known quantity is much less of a risk than spending money on something totally new.

Yeah, I know. But at least a few years ago we got new unique games like inFamous and Arkham Asylum. But now it feels like now the studios, as well as the gamers are more interested in a sequel than something new, which is why I feel like Nintendo chooses to focus on updating how we play as opposed to what we play.

Infamous is fair, but you can't call Arkham Asylum "unique" or "something new". It's Batman.

Anyway, I think it's easy to get bummed about all the sequels and whatnot because it gets thrown at you so much, but cool original games are definitely out there, they just don't get nearly as much coverage. You have to be willing try and find them.

Microsoft - Kinect this, Kinect that, too much Kinect...oh look...more Halos, more FPS, ZZZzzz...(I literally did go to sleep during this conferrence and had to watch it a second time. That is a first)

Sony - Before I continue, I just want to share that I, personally, me, and me only, do not give a rat's-ass about most of Sony's francises. Therefore, sequels to games I'm not interested in? Pass. The PSVita? OK, what's on it? Sequels to games I'm not interested in...

Nintendo- Great showcase of 3DS titles...too bad over half of them were already shown at last years E3, so they should be out by now. And the Wii U? I don't know how to feel....

Overall it was a somewhat disappointing E3 (other than the obvious AAA titles).

So it last till the 9th but what else is going to be shown?

Is it just two more days for people at E3 to get their hands on the demos?

Well I only consider AA something new because it was a game style and experience that I had never come across before in both a Batman game and as a superhero game. It was something great that wasn't even based off a the movie franchise, and I've never even been a Batman fanboy, but that game was one game I couldn't put down.

For me, the game that impressed me the most and would probably be the closest to something new is Tomb Raider, yet even that is already something based off of a previous franchise. I came into E3 already looking forward to Uncharted 3, Arkham City, and Assassin's Creed, and their demos got me anxiously awaiting their release dates, but Tomb Raider with both the demo and the gameplay surprised me and made me so excited that I'm angry that I have to wait another year or so to play it.

I think thats because people get too hung up on the big 3 and what new "features" they will be bringing to the table. I mean i already own a 360 and PS3, i dont need them telling me why i bought one. Screw features, i wanna see video games. I think this E3 has been one of the better ones iv seen in a looooong time. I mean im gonna be spending a s**t load on games in the coming months...and i cant wait.

Nintendo's conference was the most successful at gaining my attention. Konami's was non-existent this year. Microsoft's was spent on Kinect titles that had visible input delay, a year later. Their new partnerships for Xbox Live was all that applied to me. Frostbite Two gives amazing graphics, but what was EA shopping besides more shooters and sports games? Ubisoft started with a great demo for Rayman Origins and it went downhill from there. Sony's cloud gaming is genuine innovation, yet it finished without fully showing why Vita is worth my money.

Nintendo? Introduced the Wii U, and with it, viable possibilities for better games. PC gamers don't usually get consoles because the level of precision isn't on par...which a touch screen plus motion control can circumvent. I'm more of a fighting gamer than others, and I've never liked how pads work with them. I'd be for a touch screen that replicates the traditional six button layout. And I'm just rattling off a few of the things it should be able to easily do. Nintendo responded to my want for a console with industry standards and more in spades, without alienating the folks who see Wii as a lifestyle appliance, sporting the necessary third-party support to extend their reach. They made the biggest splash by far this year.

I knew this would happen with Nintendo... Of all the things they are getting praised for with this new console, finally catching up to the rest of the games industry is NOT they should get praise for. It's an expectation that they've finally met, not a challenge they've risen to, and I hope their initial non-compliance still hurts them a little so they know how they have to actually work hard for their fans, after getting fat and greedy of the cheaply made Wii games.

Also, with this hardware, no more new 1st party game every 3-4 years. That model is just BS.

Overall, most of conferences were dissapointing. I own an Xbox 360, so obviously I paid the most attention to Microsofts and they did exactly what i didn't want. What is that, you may ask? Focused too much on what the console will do in terms of entertainment. I wanted to hear more about video games. Hell, this goes for every console.

So far, the best footage I've seen so far is of Skyrim. Arkham City, The Darkness II lok great as well, but Skyrim will dominate, if you ask me.

I want gameplay of Hitman!

I dunno, Gears 3 is looking phenomenal. With their divergant, non-linear 4 player story telling, insanely upgraded Horde mode and a fresh, fun new MP (not to mention other modes we've yet to explore) that game is looking incredibly rich and diverse.

Eh, I was never a Gears fan. I played it back in '08 and jsut couldn't get into it. The Halo 4 announcement was cool, I guess. I remember picking up Halo: COmbat Evolved the day it came out in 2001, which was awesome. Then came 2 and 3 which were good. However, I feel as though ODST, Reach, and Halo Wars sort of milked the franchise dry. However, I feel as thouh it's better to have Halo 4 than spin off games.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised by that myself. Despite the justification people have for it, there's usually always a solid amount of surprise new IPs at E3. The only one that really caught my eye was this game, Gravity, for the Vita.

It sounds pretty interesting and unique.

Well Overstrike definitely looked great, and that's an IP from a good dev.

Do we already know what these are?

Super Secret Sequel #1 | 4:00pm
Super Secret Sequel #2 | 4:20pm
Super Secret Sequel #3 | 4:40pm
Super Secret Sequel #4 | 5:40pm

And didn't someone say we'd get a further announcement on the Assassin's Creed game coming out for WiiU?

Looks great

@Spider-ManHero12, That's a shame. I got hooked by the first one, great co-op campaign, and then Gears 2 was great co-op too. The multiplayer was always lacking though, except Horde mode, but after playing the Gears 3 Beta, I can see it taking the place of Halo, Battlefield or any other online multiplayer game for me quite easily.
