E3 2011 - Part 2

So does anyone know what type of game Overstrike is? Ive asked but never got an answer. Is it a third person shooter?

Kinda disappointed Nintendo isn't coming out with an actual console, with an actual controller. Sick of all this touch screen, motion control ********.

To be fair, it IS an actual console, just a lame controller :P

Nintendo has me intrigued.

And puzzled. Because I have no idea what it is exactly that they're selling. Besides a really huge controller.

But, HD graphics and the games that are promised to get onboard (Batman, Dark Siders 2, etc.) is what is interesting to me, while being able to play those exclusive Nintendo games.

Yeah, I think they're going to have to offer some pretty substantial titles in order to sell well, since most people already have one if not two HD consoles that have done the job for the last 5 years.

I think Nintendo is going to have to do a lot more than just a new controller with an upgraded console to convince people to with them as opposed to Sony or Microsoft, especially if their pricing is going to be around the same as the PS3 and 360.

Especially when Microsoft and Sony will potentially announce their new consoles around the time the Wii 2 comes out, then they can enjoy a year of being on even balance before becoming obsolete again.

There's no conferences or anything far as I'm aware, but GT is still covering it and new content is popping up periodically.

Okay, gracias. I want to watch some more demos/gameplays, lol.

The dude was very shady during all of his interviews afterwards though, so I understand if it is freaking out some people/investors.

The nay-saying and the nagging and the *****ing and the doubts happened after the Wii and it still became a hit, so obviously Nintendo was onto something once, only time will tell if they strike a home run again. But the reaction on Social Media Websites seems pretty positive so far.

Not with Nintendo. From a business perspective, they released an outdated console after it's two main big competitors, and now it's even the playing field by releasing it's second console, to come out 2 years before it will be overtaken again. A strange business move.

Nintendo have been doing well, sure, but not from the core gaming audience. I don't know who they've put off more, gamers or developers, but I think the way they've handled business the last couple of years has been very poor form.

Yeah, I'm sure Iwata cares about their "poor form" of business as he dives into pool full of money Scrooge McDuck style.

Nintendo hasn't released a great console imo since Nintendo 64.

That's the problem, they don't care but it's going to screw them up in the end. When people eventually get sick of all their 'retro' ********, or their original audience has grown up past Nintendo, they're going to realise they haven't made anything new in years. They became too insular and acted like they didn't need to compete with the rest of the industry, just making their own thing. I think they've totally lost their way.

Think back to the N64 days. Some of my fondest gaming memories WEREN'T from Mario, Zelda, but from games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day... It seems to me that when Nintendo lost Rare, they lost a huge creative drive for new IP's. What was the last great, successful, original first party Nintendo game. Pikmin?

True but the Wii, in my opinion and experience, was successful because it was cheaper and it offered something new with motion gaming. But look now, Sony and Microsoft have copied it so that its no longer unique to Nintendo. Give them credit for trying to do new things and making it happen, but it only opens the door for Sony and Microsoft to try to implement the tech into their own games.

I think depending on the price, it can still be successful to new and younger gamers, depending on which they are exposed to first and which is more easily available.

Yeah, but look at what their competition was. A SEGA exclusive dreamcast and Playstation 1. That was at a time when there was no cross brand markets. Sony had its game and Nintendo had theirs, unlike now where most games are made for PS3 and 360, and in some cases the wii as well. Nintendo has better games back then because the focus was more on the games, but now its on the experience and how you play.

My issue with the Wii U is that it just brings Nintendo in line with what has been out for 6 years now. When it comes to third party games, the Wii U controller is just going to fall in line with the Kinect and Move as this optional control method that maybe the developer will utilize and maybe you'll use.

Ninja Gaiden 3 comes out for all 3 systems. Exact same game but I could choose to either wave my hands with the Kinect, aim a wand with the Move or use a touch screen with the Wii U...

Nintendo is banking on all the casual Wii owners who never picked up a 360/PS3 and the rabid Nintendo fans who need an HD Smash Bros. game to sell this console. It will probably work out for them, but at this point I'm not buying a third equivalent console just for a new Zelda game.

But who knows, they still have a long time to show actual games and reveal more about the system. I hope it is potentially more powerful than the 360 and I hope the Wii U is used for more than just item management and gimmicks in 3rd party games. I am open to be convinced, but what they revealed so far seems like a misstep to me.

The experience of how you play means nothing if there isn't anything fun to experience.

Seriously, how many Wii titles, 1st party, actually fully utilised the Wii controls? Now out of those, how many weren't party or multiplayer fun games? Now out of the ones left, how many weren't tacked on or turn the controller on the side 'retro' style. The last 3 Wii games that looked worth buying were ALL 'retro nes' controller style.

I think what would get me more interested in the WiiU if I hear about more cinematic exclusive games.

Hell, I'm buying a PS3 basically for MGS and the Uncharted series (and because I want a Blu Ray player)

I think that even more than the technology would bring in hardcore gamers if that's what Nintendo wants
