E3 2011 - Part 2

I just don't think an RE reboot would work in any case. Starting with a new fresh cast of characters would just most likely end up with a bunch of people who were nothing but knock off of the main cast we currently have.
Reboot doesnt automatically mean fresh set of new characters. It could be the same existing characters but with a revamped origin and story.
I don't mind reboots if they are done properly. Like Tomb Raider for example. I haven't looked forward to one of those games in a long time. But DMC? They took everything away that the people like about the character and give the whole game a stupid british punk vibe.

It's sad how this...

...has now turned into this.

I really dont see anything wrong with the new Dante. I'll wait till I see and know more about him than just his outward appearance, which I dont think is a horrible look

Yeah, other than new Dante looking different, I'm not sure why people have such vitriol for him. And that's not even a good reason.

There's not even a need to do that. What's the point of rebooting and say having Jill as a common waitress? Or Claire as a goverment agent? It's just dumb and pointless. Move forward, not backwards.

I always wait to see a game played, but I have no hype for DmC. Devil May Cry has always been fast and fun. Nothing I've seen of the fifth game has looked like either.

It's not just the look it's the whole tone of the game. Devil May Cry is known for it's over the top, cheesy characters and fantastic heavy metal music.

Now we get DMC with a main character that looks strikingly similar to the studio's art director, with a british punk band outfit and punk music. And I just found out that Ninja Theory actually is a british developer. It's just getting more pathetic. It's like they are not even trying to make the name justice. They are absorbing it, twisting and turning it into something they think it should be. They can keep their british punk culture.

The only thing that seems to stay intact is the combat. And then I'd rather play something like Bayonetta.

So if Kratos, or Solid Snake, or Master Chief suddenly looked like, I don't know? Say, like this guy, this Adam Lambert/Dante mix..would there be no reason to complain?

No.

Costume/look change IS a good reason to complain. It would be like if Batman started wearing pink... Just because.

I dont know. Maybe bc they feel the series has been boggled down with too much continuity and history after 7+ games and want to start to revive the series and start off fresh in order to introduce it to a whole new audience? That tends to be why reboots exist.

well that was the purpose. They said they wanted to westernize the game. I liked the original DmC but the series is "too Japanese" for me. I got the same vibe from Bayonetta. That one was a big WTF in and of itself. I dont think going to a british developer is necesarily a bad thing bc Ninja Theory isnt horrible. Im more interested in this than any of the other games in the series since the first

Would it be better if they gave this kid a new name? Bc the way I look at it, its not the same character as the original DmC. Its a reboot. New look, new story, new origin, new character. All he has is the same name and so far gameplay. I think the name is there to connect the series as a loose tie, while being its own new thing.

Thats NOT Dante. Anyone who disagrees just doesn't respect the character. There is no reason to change his appearance that radically. It brings nothing to the game that the Dante we are familiar with wouldnt of, other than looking like that guy from Twilight.

Sometimes I wonder if some of you would just take whatever a company handed you with little to no complaints.

It's not just a "few" people that hate this new look for D.I.N.O, but long time series fans. They matter, believe it or not.

If they wanted to westernize it, all they needed to do was to tone down on the japanese quirks. But why ditch the heavy metal and give us punk? British punk... the f**k?

You're right its not the old Dante. This is a new character for a new series, one which so far seems to retain the similar gamestyle of the old one.

No, its because its a character they dont necessarily care for. Like you mentioned, if it was Snake or Kratos or a character they liked, they'd be b****ing too.

Well then why call him Dante and why label it Devil May Cry? Thats NOT Dante. So why even bother?

Yeah. I don't even intend to rent the Devil May Cry reboot. Anyone who looks at that and agrees with it and wants it, well, I just don't know what to say to that, because it boggles my mind completely.

I hate Ninja Theory anyway... So, once I found out they were handling the game all hope was lost

Exactly.

He looks like ****.

The graphics are nice but I don't see why they can't change the character model. It sucks so much ass.

Not necessarily. I like things to change. I like new ideas and perspectives being brought into established franchises.

It's just like if they rebooted Tomb Raider, but instead of what they are doing now, they made her American, blonde, and with blue/green eyes. That's exactly what they've done to Dante. Nothing about him says Dante. And that's the wrong way to start off a reboot.

I do too, i love new gameplay elements coming into an established franchise, that still doesnt change the fact that there is no need to change Dante into this. I mean what does that do for the character other than maybe appeal to the tween twilight fan?

Not all change is good.

Tomb Raider reboot = Good change

DMC reboot = Get the **** out of here

No one is against change. It's when the change is towards something lame and degrading the character which garners a negative reaction.

obviously to cash in on the name and have a loose tie to the old series. It wouldnt be a reboot without the name Devil May Cry

I wouldnt be opposed to a new heroine for the series. Before the game was revealed, alot of people were pretty much over Lara and TR in general anyway. I dont think there would have been as big a negative reaction had they gone with a new character and pretty much still do what they are showing with the series

It's not a "loose" tie then if it's using the same title name and the same prolific name of a character that's gotten fan acclaim to that of Solid Snake, Master Chief, and Kratos.

The negative reaction is totally justified. Last time I checked Dante wasn't a punk version of Hilary Swank.
