Do you guys think the PS4 will join or even surpass the PS2 in sales based on everything you currently know?
The line up for games is looking good and the goodwill of gamers all across the board from the onset will surely do something.
Honestly hard to say. Part of me wants to think no, despite all of the advantages it has over X1 atm. However the games market has grown considerably. If WiiU continues to have sluggish sales, X1 does as poorly as it's shaping up to, and people turn to PS4 with the market staying the same size...it's entirely possible.
I'm not going to dig up the exact numbers, but wasn't Gamecube, and Xbox both around 35 million sold, and PS2 at 120 million? This gen PS3, and 360 are both almost at 80 million each, and not slowing down, while the Wii is creeping up on 100 million.
Not to mention while we're still not doing great as a country financially atm, we are better off than we were at the PS3, and Wii launch. So people might be a bit more willing to part with their money, and the PS4 isn't as expensive as PS3. So at the least it should top the PS3's sales. Where the 360 came in as a sleeper hit, but X1 is getting a lot of negative publicity, so it might not pull 360 numbers. Then calculate in the WiiU looking like it's going no where near Wii numbers atm. That said, I'm not going to get over confident, and say one way or the other just hours after E3, months before launch. I don't want to eat crow, that's why I say possible, but not definite answer. Every console generation seems to be slightly more unpredictable (who would have guess after the PS2, that Sony would struggle to get out of last place for over 6 years, and that last place Nintendo would get first place).
