E3 2014 - Part 1

Meh, I don't think Nintendo needs 3rd party support. If they continuously give 1st party titles people will pick one up as their second console. According to gamers Nintendo's been in serious trouble since the N64.. They're still here.

Well, their books say otherwise.

But hey, if they want to settle for third place... and be the "other console" people own.

I miss the SNES days.

As important as first party exclusives are, the majority of games people play are 3rd party. No Bethesda, Rockstar or 2k games is a big deal.

And the little jabs they had at MS (Kinect) and EA (oddly) were unneeded. Spencer started E3 off very classy... Sony should have followed suit

Its Sony getting cocky & that could be their downfall in the end

I am not entirely sure why GTA V didn't come to the Wii U.

But after Watch Dogs, Nintendo is going to have a tough time getting more big third party games, since they will all be developed for the PS4 and Xbox One.

I guess they couldn't do Destiny due to the Wii U's online limitations.

Having those third parties support Nintendo's hardware wouldn't really change things for them, so it's kind of irrelevant.

I think people overplay 3rd party importance on Nintendo systems. If the WiiU is someone's secondary system.. Would they really play 3rd party games on it? No. People play Nintendo systems for Nintendo games. I'm not saying it's going to win the generation but if it's a secondary system to a PS4 of XB1.. Then by heavens that's a pretty big success for then when people declared it dead.

I don't know about that. Nintendo needs to rethink its hardware, if all the companies tell them "ethernet port", "128 GB HDD", etc after a while, you'd think they would listen.

But this company does seem to be stuck in its ways. Which is fine, when you're selling Wii's like hot cakes, but a year from now, when the Wii U is dead ****ing last, with no third party support, Nintendo might rethink their strategy.

If the Wii U was as powerful as either, that wouldn't be an issue. You would just buy all your games for it. Why is this console so underpowered?

But, even so, you can't say third party support is important. Look at the Gamecube.

I love Mario and Zelda, but even I have a hard time justifying spending 300 dollars just to play their titles.

Nintendo shouldn't want to be the "second console", that's not a very good strategy.

I really wanna play Zelda, Smash and Kart but not enough to warrant a console purchase. Pokemon WiiU on the hand... System seller.

Nintendo is gonna be fine. All they want to do is allow people to play great Nintendo games in interesting ways. I see no reason for them to bend over backwards for 3rd Parties. Let Sony and Microsoft corner the market and brown, gritty shooters. Nintendo will be fine with Nintendo titles.

How is creating a system that isn't underpowered, with a standard sized HDD and online support bending over backwards?

Why wouldn't you want to make the best system?

Third parties really don't matter to Nintendo honestly. No one would ever rush out to buy a Wii U to play Madden or Call of Duty or whatever. For better or worse, you buy Nintendo hardware to play Nintendo software, period. Everyone knows it, that's just how it is.

Regarding the whole "second console" thing, Nintendo is never, ever going to win by directly competing against Microsoft and Sony. It's just not going to happen.

Nintendo isn't competing. They've done their own thing for years. Shu even said (and not in a bad way) that they're not competing with Nintendo.. That they respect Nintendo and believe the game industry needs Nintendo.

Third party support doesn't matter because it doesn't exist. If Nintendo actually created a good system, it would.

What is with this attitude? Nintendo reigned king for a decade. Both fans and the corporate people seem to have forgotten that.

If I was in the boardroom I would just be banging my head into the table.

This.

Tetris. Mega Man. Street Fighter. Goldeneye 007. Rogue Squadron. Do these names ring bells?

And it still didn't work. People want Nintendo games on Nintendo systems.. That's been made clear over the past 15 years of more.
