I think it's people thinking it won't meet the WW record.

Early projections are for $95 million which means it'll surpass the DBO tomorrow.

it's an epic of romance...
[Luke and Leia's romantic kiss scene]

NOOOOOOOOOO! My eyes! My eyes!

I can't believe they didn't cut out that scene from the trailer :woot:

Well, Lucas didn't decide to make Luke and Leia siblings until work began on Return of the Jedi. Luke's sister was originally going to be another character that would appear in episodes 7-9 before they were scrapped by Lucas and he decided to make ROTJ the final film.

Anyway, it's going to be amazing to see where TFA's box office finally ends up.

Sounds like a lot of people are just unaware that this is still filling out theaters like it was just released. I just seen it again Thursday, and it was still a sold out IMAX show, 2 weeks after opening night. It still has markets to open in, and sounds like it is getting the same attendance and repeat business that it is getting in the states.

From @ERCboxoffice:

THE FORCE AWAKENS scored $88.3M this weekend, off -41%, with $740M total...just $20M shy of AVATAR.

Overseas STAR WARS scored $96.3M this weekend.

STAR WARS update: Domestic ($740M) Int'l ($770M) WW ($1.510B)

The $88.3m is based off that it will make $19m today. Wouldn't surprise me to see it make more than $19m today.

Really 19 million is all they think today? That does so way to low. What did it make last sunday?

Been away for the weekend updates. Looks like it did a bit less than we expected, unless of course Sundays go up with actuals as you guy's said.

Saw it for the 4th time today (finally here in the UK) and even after 2 and a half weeks after release, the theater was still packed. I am really curious on what the final worldwide BO of this bad boy will be.

At this point, why are people doubting that this will surpass Avatar? Just the math says it will, in probably half the time it took Avatar to make it's bank. I read a post in another forum from someone who said it was weeks out from even catching Avengers Domestic B.O., till someone pointed out it did already, then crickets...

I think they're talking about WW record. Avatar was sort of a freak internationally and while I don't think TFA can hit 2B internationally, I can see it getting to 2.5B WW.....maybe more. I had the over under at about 2.2-2.3, but that's looking low to me now.

I think what Malone was saying (though he used double negatives) is that the DOM run for TFA is comparable to the Int'l run of Avatar. Both are really, really impressive. TFA just KILLED Avatar in the US and everything else that's ever existed. I don't expect it will play quite as well internationally (That being said, the UK is looking pretty over the top with regard to BO #s), but we'll have to see where we are when all is said and done.

I picked up on some stuff I missed during my (only :csad: ) second viewing last night. I had a blast and even though the XD showing wasn't heavily attended, the 2D looked to be rolling.

That aggressively low Sunday estimate is the studio factoring in some type of game being played tonight. I think some sort of Football game but I'm not sure because I only occasionally watch Basketball.

At the moment I don't think TFA will reach Avatar worldwide and I don't really care. The film is a massive success and isn't a sequel to Avatar so that's not really the goal, the goal was massive success and the film has gotten to that point.

Green Bay/Minnesota for the National Football Conference North Divisional Championship.

Green Bay, in particular, is a big draw.

Oh thanks for clearing that up for me how important that game is judging by the name.

If it does not go up in estimates I hope nobody is disappointed with 88million. How many films make 88 million in their second weekend let alone their 3rd? The numbers are amazing guys.

Still, wouldn't it be amazing to beat Avatar? I mean, if there was one movie that you would really want to dethrone Avatar from the top spot, wouldn't it be amazing if that is TFA?

The UK number is going to be huge. I don't usually see regional cinemas packed on the 3rd weekend of a film.

Yeah my friend saw it a few days ago and said it was opening weekend packed.
I assume it's on course for beating the UK record pretty easily.

It's funny though, I still don't actually know anyone who says the film is any better than 'good'.

Just shows how big Star Wars is. Imagine how big another Empire would be now!

Yes it would be amazing but I think there is too much focus on that to the point where I can already hear people with certain vendettas downplaying it's success because it didn't reach that number. I mean that's already happening.

I remember people doing that with Avatar once it was out on its own and the comparisons moved on to Gone with the Wind. The goalposts never stop moving for those with a vendetta!

Bruce Malone. Did I have to even say it.

When did Gone with the Wind have to deal with multiple other blockbusters every other week, the internet, videogames and home video? Oh yeah it didn't have to deal with that stuff at ****ing all. People are ridiculous.

Sing it sister!!!

EDIT: Back in the 1940s, my father asked my grandfather whether or not he wanted to watch Skyfall on their 73" Mitsubishi TV if he could find it on the internet from his laptop computer using his 60MB broadband connection.

They had him committed...........

If only any of these movies we are talking about were half as good as Gone with the Wind, then I'd buy that argument. :o

By the way, you are such a Scarlett SPIDEY. I love it so much. :atp:

Does that make you Rhett or Ashley, Darth? :p

We are going to annoy people with our gooeyness again, aren't we? :funny: Guess I wouldn't have it any other way.
