The Force Awakens Early Star Wars 7 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Yes, $2 billion finally! Can't express how happy I am right now :) Well-deserved.

900m domestic, 2b WW.

I actually impulse purchased a BB-8 wallet less than a week ago.

So the film made it to 2 billion. As I said before, all of the wouldbe blockbusters wish they could hit 2 billion.

Stop making me love you more. :atp:

Glad to see it crossed that line. :woot:

That one keeps tempting me every time I see it at my comic shop, but I'm quite fond of the one I have now and don't want to have to choose between them. :funny:

For the record, in the poll I picked 1.4-1.6. Never been so happy to be way wrong!

If they can pull a successful re-release, Force Awakens might just get a chance at surpassing Titanic. This is a case where them releasing a new film once a year might limit how much TFA makes at the end of the day.

It beat Titanic's opening run numbers DOM and WW. With a halfway decent re-release, it passes Titanic's re-release numbers. It would probably need some sort of added content or something like that to make it more interesting. Maybe a re-release a month or so in advance of Ep 8.

I was in the same category! It's nice to under predict about a half a billion dollars! :D

TFA has almost 1/3 of the total WW box office $$$ of the franchise. How the OS numbers have changed in the last few years, huh?

This thread can rest in peace, what a beautiful box office run... (Although technically not finished yet)

Not finished for a while yet! Still in 1,800 theaters and will make another $8 million+ this four-day holiday weekend. Should be around $917 million domestic after Monday.

TFA finally dropping out of the top five after about 60 days is damn impressive. The fact that it's still in the top 10 says a lot. Even with Deadpool's massive success, I'd say TFA still has a nice amount of life left within it. It may be done breaking records but it should keep on raking in cash for a few weeks or so.

I doubt if it makes my $940-$960 domestic prediction but it should get close to $930 million, which is still sweet.

Still kicking. From boxoffice.com:

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS took in $7.64M over the 4-day weekend and has grossed $916.29M to date domestically. #StarWars

Yep. And wow I've been out of the loop. Just checked how much Deadpool did!

Yeah, never thought I'd be saying this but I think Deadpool stole most of the little steam TFA had left. Up until its release, it seemed like TFA would get a lot closer to that $2.1b mark.

I saw Star Wars again on Deadpool’s opening weekend, and our Star Wars show was still almost sold out. It’s held up fine, it’s....everyone’s seen it at this point.

(I’ve also seen Deadpool twice)

I'm not implying that Deadpool ruined TFA or anything, but it did finally manage to take away a lot of spotlight from it. TFA is still going to make its money, I'm just saying that if DP weren't out it'd probably be making a tad bit more.

Either way it goes, when it's all said and done TFA has had a legendary run in theaters & it broke all the records I initially said it wouldn't. It exceeded even the best of expectations so it's all good in the end. :D

It finally dropped out of the Top 10 this weekend. Does this mean they can finally announce the Blu-ray already?

Well shoot. I was headed to the local Imax to squeeze another viewing in. Glad I checked before I left. I guess Gods of Egypt took over the screen this week. TFA was still playing the Imax screen last week. There is just one 2D screen left in the city showing TFA. We need a re-release!

I didn't even know Gods of Egypt had an IMAX release. Deadpool took over the IMAX screens around here a few weeks ago and that's being replaced by Zootopia this week, with Batman v. Superman taking its place in three weeks. Still, The Force Awakens had a good two month run here in IMAX. Around me, they're only down to 3-4 showings a day for Star Wars and it's already gone from some theaters. Forget a re-release, I say bring on the Blu-ray already.

Movies tend to play for around 1.5 months to 2 months in theaters where I live on average and I would say being more close to 1.5 months then 2. This movie has been out for about 2.5 months and is still playing. So the movie has been in theaters around where I live for around 2 weeks to a month longer then what I would say is the average around hear. So pretty impressive and also zootopia comes out friday so I thought that would maybe kill it after Thursday but looks like it is going to be playing threw at least next weeks Thursday the 10th as that is has far ahead has I can look on fandango at my theater. By then you are getting to about only a week from being 3 months. I don't know if it will get to 3 months or not has it is going from 3 show times a day down to 2 in like a day or 2 and then early next week like Tuesday going down to just 1 show time. So I think the 10th may be its last day there. I also wonder how close will it get to titanic? Right now its around 130 million behind titanic. I think it may have around 30 million left to maybe get with in 100 million. To bad china didn't do better or it would have past titanic.

Another question, how much loot will TFA make from second run theaters. Locally, we call them The Dollar Theaters but they haven't actually cost a dollar for over a decade. I think 3D movies cost 3 or 4 dollars. Could TFA make another 30 million from second run movie houses?

In comparison to the dailies of JW, if it keeps up, TFA can make at minimum $13 million domestically. But TFA's dailies have been surpassing so it seems TFA will finish it's domestic run over $940 million.

They should really consider doing a extended scene release next year. They could easily do another $60 minimum.
