Ant-Man Edgar Wright Leaves Ant-Man!! - Part 1

Gutted about this news. Wright was by far the most interesting director the studio had lined up, and a great pick for a character like Ant-Man who is gonna need some serious style to stand out in such a saturated market. Interest in this film has flat-lined for me.

Wright really shouldve just adjusted his vision or script to fit in with Marvel like all the other filmmakers have. Him walking was really stupid on his part. And if it was a thing about him just not being right for the film, thats the way it is.

So you're saying that he should agree to absolutely anything Marvel wants?

He was being his usual *****ey self, C Lee told him to knock it off, he ran his mouth, Lee prob-banned him, he mouthed off again and got banned for real.

I don't know if I'll get in trouble for this, but it should be said. Regardless of whether or not I agree with Ant-Manic all the time, I don't think it was right for him to be banned, or even prob-banned. Unacceptable behaviour and breaches of board rules should certainly be policed, but someone shouldn't be booted for what essentially amounted to talking back to a mod with some sass in your tone.

Was it a snide remark? Sure. But if that comment had been made to any of us we'd have just had to deal with it or come up with some kind of retort. The only reason that comment resulted in a banning was because it was made to someone with a red name tag. I don't know, maybe there was some behind-the-scenes stuff going on that we're not privy to that made the banning justified. But If mods start using their banning powers as a nuclear deterrent to silence disagreement with them, that for me is a pretty slippery slope.

They have the final word on what they make. Hes an employee, not a producer. I think they wanted to work with Wright but when he showed them how he was ultimately going to make the movie, it all went bad. Just because he made some fun quirky comedies with Simon and Nick doesnt mean it would be right for Ant Man. This was going to be a huge franchise movie, not one of his trademark pub comedies. Lets not forget, Marvel saw/knew what he was going to do for years (whereas we havent), hence the troubles.

I dont care what Badass Digest thinks or any other site. Its not up to them or Edgar Wrights fans. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for all involved. Marvel will make better decisions on who they hire and Wright will only make the kinds of films he knows he has control over from inception to post production.

If you get prob banned, how can you still mouth off? Shouldn't it mean that you can't post anymore once you're on probation?

After being put on probation, you can still PM the mods.

And he probably did that.

You can still send PMs when you are on probation. Many times the conversation with the probated poster continues for days. Nothing can come from it....the probation can be stopped or shortened....the probation can be made longer....bannings can ensue.

Any chance I could get Ant-Manic's post count so I can finally have an avatar?

I still cannot understand this unwavering faith you put in Marvel Studios.

THR has a list of candidates, one of them who has directed Rudd before.

Awful list. Hoping for Ruben I guess.

I have more faith in Marvel as a studio than any other in this genre, but, while they haven't delivered a bad film so far, they have dropped a number of unremarkable ones. It's like for every film we see that has come together nicely there is another that has been chopped and screwed. I was expecting this to be one of their more interesting projects because the character is a little more obscure. Sigh

McKay is also a part of the Judd Apatow School of Improvisation, meaning that he can easily re-write the script during shooting of the movie.

I think Adam McKay would be a great choice for this film. Plus, he and Paul Rudd have worked together before. McKay for the win.

Fleischer is my pick from that list. Zombieland tone with the humor dialed back a couple notches sounds about right for this.

Same. Never saw Gangster Squad, but I think the tone Zombieland had would match closest.

I guess it comes down to who can make the best sci fi action film with some humor in it. Id lean more towards Fleischer since he made Zombieland and Gangster Squad.
