Ant-Man Edgar Wright Leaves Ant-Man!! - Part 1

To be honest, not really. I was a little dissapointed by IM2 (still really enjoy it though) and I didnt love Thor 2, thats probably my biggest complaints. Im really thrilled theres an MCU at all. I love this universe and thank Marvel for doing it so successfully.

That's where you and I differ. I liked Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and Thor: TDW although I had issues with all three. But my main beef with the MCU is the lack of diversity in the Avengers. I am glad that Scarlet Witch has been added, to basically prevent the film from being "Black Widow and Maria Hill in a Sausage Festival" but there is not a single person of color in the Avengers, and I am not counting Nick Fury. However, I am cautiously optimistic that this issue will be resolved by Avengers 3. It's an issue I am sure that Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon are well aware of. How they will fix it remains to be seen, as right now I think it's 50-50 for both Black Panther and Carol Danvers (it has to be one of them as I don't see both right now unless they expand, although my preference is both). I will heavily criticize the MCU for it if a film of neither happens and they do a film with yet another male, white superhero (unless it's another Hulk movie) after Dr. Strange, Cap 3 and Thor 3 but before Avengers 3. If I had to choose between Carol or T'Challa, my pick would be Black Panther.

Again, my preference would be for both, but right now as it stands, the plans for 2016-2017 is for one existing property and one new property. If that new property is Inhumans instead of Carol or T'Challa, then they need to have the team be as diverse as possible, perhaps casting an actor of color as Black Bolt and two actresses of color as Medusa and Crystal. If they make an Inhumans movie and all of the characters are played by white actors, I will have an issue with Marvel Studios over it asking the question "Why the hell did they choose the Inhumans over Black Panther?" Because the Inhumans have two females, I would not question why them over Carol.

I have confidence in Marvel Studios that the issue of diversity will be fixed. I don't think it will happen in Avengers 2, because Rhodey is nothing more than a cameo based on the latest rumors, but I am cautiously optimistic that we'll see a person of color as a prominent member of the Avengers by Avengers 3.

Why aren't you counting Nick Fury?

It's based on Sam Jackson's recent comments saying that Nick will have nothing more than a cameo in the film. His role will be dramatically reduced from the first film, leaving the Avengers to be well.....white.

I feel the same way so we dont really differ at all.

Diversity: I agree there too. Im sure as time goes on theyll introduce more heroes of diff backgrounds. Im not so concerned with it for now since theyve got Nick Fury, War Machine and Falcon in there.

Since SHIELD has basically been gutted , a reduced role for Fury makes sense .

You're right about that.

Absolutely.....it's THE AVENGERS.....not the AVENGERS: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Fair enough. I didn't know you were talking about the reduction from the first movie, I thought you were just talking about the first movie. I felt, in the first movie itself, Sam Jackson's role was fairly large. Although I will point out that Don Cheadle is in AoU. We don't yet know how significant he would be.

The only thing I have with hanging your hats on Black Panther is, if he appears in Avengers 2, it'll be nothing more than a cameo. Avengers 3 is a possibility. However, the plan, as I understand it, is to make him more of a Phase 4 character.

Fury was a key member in the first movie, but not so much in the second. There are rumors that War Machine's role is nothing more than a cameo.

And if Black Panther does not show up until Phase 4, then have Carol Danvers in his place. I will criticize Marvel Studios if neither of them have a film in Phase 3.

^^ The line that said it all by Fury was:

"I guess youre calling the shots now Cap"

That was basically a passing of the torch and the intro of Cap as co-leader of the Avengers.

I don't see why Falcon can't be apart of The Avengers, I liked the character.

Agreed. My wife and I both loved his character (and Mackie won us over totally to him with his appearances on talk shows)....and we want to see more of him.

Right Mackie is a charismatic guy and a good actor, it's a shame to not see him in something like The Avengers sequel. And they don't have to introduce him again or anything. Bam, he's there to help out, no big explanations needed.

I'd love to see Sam in AOU. With upgraded flight suit.

And I'll take a BP cameo if its memorable and if it implies he (and wakanda) will be a major player in phase 3. If we get nothing I'll be disappointed.

My guess is we're getting a Wakanda cameo, but not a Black Panther cameo. Obviously, if they want to make a Black Panther movie, they have to be careful with the casting of the character. It isn't something they want to rush into. Having Wakanda says "we're definitely going to have Black Panether eventually and we're laying the groundwork now." Having Black Panther show up and then Marvel realizes they don't like the actor would be awkward (that being said, Marvel isn't particularly shy when it comes to recasting, so maybe that wouldn't be the end of the world).

Marvel has reportedly had their sights set on Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Also the guy who is in StarWars & Attack of the block

I am so upset that Edgar Wright is no longer directing. My excitement for the Ant-Man film has taken a huge, huge nosedive.

I'm glad Adam McKay isn't replacing him though. I find him to be overall insufferable as a director (I watched Step Brothers for the first time recently, and I wanted to punch a wall after wasting my time with that POS movie). His Ant-Man would have been a disaster.

To be fair, movies like that probably suffer more from the bad script than the directing. Granted, I think he picks scripts with the kind of humor I generally find unappealing, but he pretty much directs those scenes in the only way that would conceivably make the joke work, so he isn't doing a poor job directing (it just generally isn't funny).

Where'd you hear this, Mike?

And I'm with everyone else on loving Mackie as Falcon and wishing for him to be an Avenger, as well as a T'Challa cameo/film ASAP.

It's definitely time to knock it off with the black sidekicks and give us a solo film starring a black character. The general worry is that it wouldn't do as well...but I'd love for that thought to be proven wrong.

I think Black Panther will do well if they give him a supporting character we already know in the MCU:

I'd rather they not waste time introducing a new character.

What was the last one, Hancock?

I think that's a great idea. It gives Hawkeye more screen time to be fleshed out as a character (essentially the Black Widow in TWS of the movie), gives the audiences a familiar face and avenger, AND reverses the "black sidekick" trend that's been happening in all of the solo films.

For the record, though, having a kick@ss black supporting character in each film is better than having no representation at all; it's not like their roles have been demeaning. But I do agree that it's time for a lead role.
