El Mayimbe: Why the hate???

I've met El Mayimbe in person, and he's a pretty nice, sociable cordial person. I simply wish he wouldn't act like such a condescending person with his online persona. Then again, I guess it works with him because he does have a sizable loyal following.

So no hate for Mayimbe. However, I don't like the penchant for breaking scoops and acting like you have the inside track only for many of these scoops not to pan out. Case in point. Iron Fist was supposed to be in Luke Cage according to him:

Here's a genuine fact: Finn Jones and Luke Cage didn't even meet in person for the first time until New York Comic-Con or shortly before.

I think he also lost a lot of points here by trolling the forums and dangling the scoop carrot in front of everyone only for the big reveal to be "Join my mailing list to find out!" I forget what it was about, but I think he was talking about World War Hulk and Planet Hulk in Phase 2 or some such. Hulk would get shot into space at the end of Avengers 2, which he didn't.

He's not had kind words for SHH posters or the forums probably because many people here don't take his word as gospel. And again, it's not an endearing quality.

I think most of the experienced posters here have put in many years and time in the hype. So nowadays I think more people know when to discern from the truth or not.

It just goes to show. Remember all these so-called insiders and scoopers we have online who know exactly who Jena Malone is playing in Batman v Superman? At the end of the day, she was nothing more than a lab scientist who Lois goes to for information. That's it. And NO one accurately reported that. Not a single person accurately reported her character. First Scoot McNairy is Nightwing. Oh wait, then he's the Flash. Now he's Jimmy Olsen. None of these insider scoops were right.

Before Iron Fist finally got confirmed, I was reading reports from multiple fly-by-night geek websites who had their own "sources" saying Iron Fist was not coming along and they were going to replace it with Shang-Chi or just make an Iron Fist Netflix movie. Again, all that was garbage.

And that's why I can't buy into scoops anymore. Usually, over half of them turn out to be absolute trash.

So he just plays up his persona. It's strange isn't it - almost like being a WWE wrestler in some ways.

I really think the days of 'scoops' are nearly dead. The reason for that, based on speculation, is that a lot of the spies that El May and others had, probably were on the verge of getting caught (it's big info and you don't want to lose you job AND get sued), left their positions where they are in the know, or just realize that there's no incentives.

In the end, trades win again. There was a battle to beat Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety. The closest site that was able to compete that wasn't a top teir trade was The Wrap.

But the trades have a weird relationship with the studios - sometimes they do have spies, sometimes the studios will purposely leak info to them (either to test the water, and the public reaction). They often they do work together, where as sites like Latino Review or HH don't.

You'll get scoop here and there once in a while, from Joblo and when he was active, Devin Faraci, but that wasn't common.

Yeah, I think with the way social media is set up now, there are no more scoops to be gotten. We all catch wind at the same time.

I'm just saying his attitude that he sometimes presents online puts people off because someone was asking why. Or his actions of trashing the Hype posters and forums. That would certainly annoy the community members who enjoy posting here.

When he tried posting here to get people to subscribe to the mailing list, the moderators quickly shut it down. Not sure if he got perma banned or not, but it seemed like he did.

Much like other things, I don't really have an opinion on him since I don't care too much about him. I do finding it amusing how he calls all his stuff "scoops" like he's reporting regular everyday news. Also, there was that time when he went on some roof to record a video about some WB/DC stuff or whatever. The build up to that and the result was too funny.

Yeah all about how the future DC movies would be a continuation of The Dark Knight Rises, Bale would come back as Batman, and Chris Nolan would oversee all the DC stuff as a producer.

Superman would find retired Bale Batman out alone somewhere fishing with a beard and tell him, "We're putting a team together."

Yup. This was in 2013.

His problem is not only is he arrogant about everything he does but when he is not breaking a scoop he is worthless. His appearances on other shows like Collider Heroes are not that good. His knowledge on comic stuff is surprisingly lacking for someone who runs a genre website & mostly breaks comic book movie scoops.

There is a reason he is at The Wrap now and it is not to hone his scooping skills like he clams. It was most likely Heroic Hollywood wasn't pulling in the kind of revenue he expected because you cant keep traffic where it needs to be on a few "scoops" every couple of months.

You mean HH wasn't generating traffic with how much they flood Twitter with reposting articles every 3 hours?

Also, he's giving Frosty on a ton of **** today because Frosty's challenging some of the details on his Deadpool 2 split.

Wow, seriously? That's fascinating

And then what usually happens when these scoopers ask the studios directly for information? Don't studios lie frequently when met with questions, particularly when certain information is not yet to be disclosed?

Thank you for that video. The music and tone he's selling... :lmao:

Didn't he also say he had a BIG! announcement about Wonder Woman, only to reveal a fanmade trailer?
