Different sources are posting different Nos but according to Mojo BATB snagged a 63.78 million OD. Which would mean a true Friday gross of 47.5 million. With a 25 % increase on Saturday and 30 % decrease on Sunday, it could topple the BvS March OW record.

The big D man loved it, that's good enough for me on this one! :D glad you dug it buddy.
I was confused when I read this. Because I thought it was about me, but then that means you called me the big D man and I don't know how to feel about that. :o

Well if it was for me, thanks Hunter. :woot:

http://deadline.com/2017/03/beauty-and-the-beast-opening-international-box-office-1202045514/

UPDATE, SATURDAY: With a further $40.3M at offshore turnstiles on Friday, Disney’s Beauty And The Beast has twirled its way to $51.8M at the international box office. That’s in two days of play. Combined with the record-breaking domestic debut, the worldwide box office through Friday is $115.6M. Moving into the castle on Friday were such key hubs as the UK, China, Spain and Mexico. China on Friday came in at an estimated $12.6M per Dis while local unofficial reporting currently has it closing in on $30M through Saturday.

There are now 43 material markets open and all four of the overseas majors that bowed Friday launched at No. 1. Of those, China, the UK and Mexico scored the biggest Disney Live Action opening day of all time. Estimates out of the UK are at $6.1M on Friday with $2.4M from Mexico.

Without the full-weekend, it’s difficult to start stacking comps across the first few days of rollout. That’s because pics like Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book opened with different patterns and in different exchange rate landscapes. But Belle and her Beast are on their way to blasting past pre-weekend high-end projections overseas of $115M. The early numbers make it feel like the update on the 1991 classic animated pic is doing Jungle Book-style business with that film having opened to $134M in the same suite of markets and at today’s exchange rates.

Let’s also take a look at Cinderella for a moment. The 2015 movie debuted day-and-date with North America and grossed $25M in its first weekend — the biggest Middle Kingdom March bow ever at the time. Including the local Saturday estimates, Beauty And The Beast has already out-danced Cindy with about $30M in two days. We’ll have a much clearer picture tomorrow.

With yesterday’s bows, the Bill Condon-helmed BATB is now open in all major markets except France, Australia, and Japan. France and Australia pull up a chair next week, followed by Japan on April 21

Saw this last night and had fun. It's not great, but it's very good. I actually kind of hated all of the human designs of Lumiere, Cogsworth, etc. with the heavy makeup and wigs. Even if that's historically accurate based on the time period, I just found it to be comically distracting in a bad way.

To me the Beast CGI was pretty dodgy, but a friend of mine was 100% convinced that Dan Stevens was in hair/makeup for the whole movie, and they just used CGI for his more animal-like legs. It wasn't until after I showed her some behind-the-scenes footage that she realized he was entirely CG. That baffles my mind because I didn't think the Beast CGI was convincing at all, but I guess I'm overly scrutinizing?

It had all of the parts I remember and love from the original, and a bunch of extra parts that I don't think were needed, and didn't make it better, but it was never really bad. Some of the humor didn't work for me, but overall I had a good time.

So here are my thoughts. Spoilers ahead:

Well that was a nostalgia bomb I haven't felt since...well, since The Force Awakens. I loved it. However, I don't think I would have loved it as much if I hadn't grown up with the animated film. I can understand why some didn't like this one because it really did follow the original beat by beat, maybe a little too closely. There wasn't much that wasn't carried over besides the "Gaston" reprise.

I thought the cast all did a great job. I liked Emma Watson, and I thought she turned in a solid performance, but I actually thought she was the weakest of the main cast. Dan Stevens nailed it, so much so that the shoddy CGI in some scenes didn't phase me because he turned in a great performance. Luke Evans made for a sinister Gaston. Josh Gad was brilliant as LeFou. So too was Kevin Kline as Maurice. All the actors playing the objects were great as well. I loved Ian McKellen's Cogsworth especially. Evan McGregor really brought Lumiere to life as well, questionable accent aside. It's like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins where the accent isn't great but it doesn't matter because he's giving it his all. Speaking of which, Emma Thompson could have toned down the cockney accent too but I still liked her as Mrs. Potts. Plumette, Cadenza and the Wardrobe were more fleshed out than in the animated film (in the case of Cadenza, he was brand new) and Gugu (:hmr:), Stanley Tucci and Audra McDonald all were wonderful. A solid cast in general.

The songs and how they were staged ranged from great to okay. I thought "Be Our Guest" worked the best here, but I may be biased because it's my favorite from the original. The best of the new songs was definitely "Evermore". I even enjoyed that more than "If I Can't Love Her" from the Broadway show, not the least of which for occurring at a point in the story where it makes more sense for the Beast to have an emotional ballad. As for Emma Watson, I didn't think she sounded bad, but autotune was obvious in more than a few places. She sounded strongest in "How Does A Moment Last Forever?"

My major gripes with the film were that for one, the Beast should have had more screentime in the first half. It really should have been him to let Belle out of the dungeon instead of Lumiere (even though it was Lumiere's idea in the original). I was also disappointed that the ballroom sequence was kinda meh compared to the original film.

That being said, there were a few things that this film did better than the animated film. The characters of LeFou, Maurice and Plumette were much stronger here, and as I said before, "Evermore" was really quite effective for the Beast's character.

The scene that made me realize I did love the film was the scene where the objects became inanimate as the Beast died. Just seeing the despair of these characters combined with the heart wrenching score from Alan Menken made me tear up, out of nostalgia as well. That was such a brilliant and sad moment.

Overall, while it isn't a better film than the original, it certainly is a worthy companion to it, and it's my favorite of the Disney live action remakes. It's like a good cover song of a perfect original composition. I wouldn't hesitate showing it to a child, but I'd make sure they saw the original first.

My advice for all who ready to see movie. DON'T WAIT to see original animated movie! If you not do this, you can be disappointed. Like me in first time - I liked everything in the movie. Actors, extended story, decorations, costumes, music. But I thought movie was absolutely emotionless. And I was so sad after movie...

But now I watched movie second time. Without thinking about original and not waiting to see live action masterpice like animated movie. And... I totally enjoyed the movie.

Want so much to see movie with original sound and subtitles. But can't in my city.

One thing I always wondered is why the enchantress put a spell on the servants as well as the Prince. They didn't do anything wrong and it seems pretty unfair that they might have to suffer for the rest of their lives just because their boss is a jerk.

Maybe that's different in the new version but in the 1991 movie, their only crime was being around in the castle.

Because they did nothing to stop or counter his father's corruption of him and in the end encouraged his egotistical and cavalier behavior. If I understood it well.

Yep. Emma Thompson say it.

Got back from seeing it a little bit ago.

I absolutely ADORED this movie. It was a nostalgia bomb, but it also had enough stuff that felt new/expanded on that it didn't feel like simply a rehash.

I've said this before back when the soundtrack came out, and I still think it... I love all the songs (especially the new ones). And I loved seeing them in context (especially "How Does a Moment Last Forever (Montmartre)" (that was the one I was most curious about)), and I love everyone's singing (yes, even Emma's). I think everyone was perfectly cast. I loved the expansion on some of the characters (i.e. Maurice, knowing a bit more about Beast as well as some of the castle staff). I loved that
The Enchantress had more of a presence in the film/was brought back in the end... with the idea that she's continued to keep an eye on things

Would gladly see this again :)

I just got back from seeing it. It was just as bad as I expected to it be. I couldn't stop laughing at points at the awkward writing/jokes that were written in. The Beast, Lumiere and Cogsworth were probably the strongest characters in the movie. The added storylines and songs didn't really add up to much in the end either.

just got back!!

I'll post more detailed thoughts later.

but for now, I'll just say this. It wasn't what I expected. In fact, I didn't like it at all.

The original Disney film is my all time favorite movie. As such, I had high expectations for this film, and I went in with mixed feelings.

This film simply didn't meet those expectations. No, indeed, it SURPASSED THEM!!

This film reinforced why I love the story of Beauty and the Beast so much.

It was like a dream come true watching my favorite story brought to life in live-action. The songs ( even the new ones ), the singing ( even Emma ), the story additions, they all worked for me.

And the feels.........oh, the feels. I wasn't sure if I'd tear up like I did when I watched the original film. But I started crying during the Ballroom scene and by the end I was balling my eyes out.

So, no. I didn't like the film. I LOVED it! It was everything I had hoped it would be and more.

now, if you'll excuse me, I still need to dry my eyes off........

Thanks for the thoughts Drizzle.

I agree on Be Our Guest. Funny, seeing the trailers and tv spots, I expected the worst for that one. It felt like it would just be a song and dance in nondescript CGI room. Thankfully was it not that. It is so much fun. Ewan just killed it.

Faora, is the whole movie dubbed in Russia, even the songs?

Faora, is the whole movie dubbed in Russia, even the songs?
Yep. It's Disney. Always all dubbed... And it's disgusting...
I like our voice only of Belle, Beast and Lefou. Really good. But all other is awful. Of course choirs is terrible. Ruined most songs. Beauty and the Beast ruined.:cmad: I love so much BatB song by Emma Thompson. Evermore is very good, but of course with change of text. And failed last song Beauty and the Beast - Finale with McDonald, Thompson and choir. Original song is causing me goosebumps. Anyway, ending is absolutely beautiful. Belle with Adam, in dance, BatB song with choir. And I'm in a trance.:hrt:

I really hope maybe at next week some theater give me chance enjoy movie with original sound and subtitles.

Well that truly sucks. My favorite things about this movie is the cast. I am sorry Faora and I hope you do get the chance soon to see it with the original voice cast.

I saw it tonight and really enjoyed it, unlike Cinderella and The Jungle Book, it doesn't really expand the original but it's a visual treat with a gorgeous score.

Emma Watson was okay as Belle but the real star of the film is Luke Evans as Gaston, he really shines in the role and he and Josh Gad work well together. I did like some of the changes although there is one scene which could have cut and it would have not hurt the film one jot.

Overall, I think it's the second best of the live action Disney films and while it's not as good as the original film, it doesn't disgrace itself.

I know Disney has Mulan and Aladdin in the pipeline but I would love to see The Hunchback of Notre Dame get the live action treatment.

so....ummm.......was LeFou paying the villagers to butter up Gaston??

it looked like he was spreading around some coins during Gaston song......

Yep.

One thing that (isnt that big) that I wish they had remedied was...how did Maurice get back to the village while the horse stayed at the kingdom with Belle? Did he just walk all the way back?

Makes sense. Probably why it took him a week to get back.

That is the one thing I am glad they kind of lampshade and explain in this movie is the weird ass stretches of time that take place in the cartoon.

It's implied the villagers apart from the girls don't really like Gaston.

I liked that it's showed the castle is frozen in time somewhat hence the snow. I do wonder why it didn't snow when the mob went to the castle.
