That means Watson also beat her old total with Deathly Hallows Part 2. :woot:

Something really special about this, the tickets apparently skewed heavily 2d. 60%. Which means it brought out a lot of people who don't usually go to the movies.

I went to a 2d showing, and it was almost packed.

I've noticed that hasn't always been the case with the last several movies I've seen in 2d.

I saw it in in 2D in a PLF screen and while it benefits from a big screen and sound. I imagine 3D isn't necessary apart from one or two scenes, likewise with D-Box and 4DX.

I saw it in 2D IMAX. The wider format looked great but the music drowned out the vocals in a few parts. I am curious to see how the "Be Our Guest" scene looks in 3D.

yeah, I'd imagine Be Our Guest would be the highlight in 3D.

Scene I want to see in 3D the most... probably the bit when Belle is singing in front of the big window during "Something There" or any time she tries to brush Gaston off.

Yes I am shameless. :o

I've seen it in both 2d and 3d. As far as 3d goes I think the best part was the snowball fight. I was expecting Be Our Guest to be GREAT in 3d but it didnt leave a big impression on me.

How were the night scenes in 3D? Easily to make out?

I loved the snowball fight, seeing Belle being whacked by that giant snowball was worth the price of admission!

So this is looking to be Disney's first billion dollar movie of the year?

I was pretty meh for the half of the movie. Though towards the end, the talking things stole the show from the leads and they made me like the movie. Its weird. The leads didn't connect to me.

I love the Cinderella 2015 so much. And I was just more satisfied with that film than this one. They really brought their own take into that movie unlike this one. I also feel like they should have played either Celine or Ariana version of the theme song during the dance scene of the leads, instead of Emma Thompson singing the song. Her singing ruined the moment. And I kno w it was similar to the animated movie but they should have changed it here. For me, it was basically the same movie as the 90s film but just with more scenes that felt tacked in. I was kinda underwhelmed by that. Though the movie looked really pretty. Though Beast's CGI and green screen were obvious at times.

Emma Thompson's version of BatB is glorious.

She never had any hope in matching Lansbury, but it was serviceable. In fact, there were many moments that just didn't have the punch of the animated film.

Off the top of my head:

- ''Come into the light''
- The ballroom dance
- ''At least I got to see you once last time''.

This was decent. Another movie that is just "fine" to me.
Once you follow the blueprint of something great, and you have good actors/crew, it's kinda hard to completely mess things up.

They could've cut somethings out. I get that they wanted to pad it out and put their own twist to the story, but it just didn't work to me. Pacing felt off to me.

Luke Evans as Gaston was great and so was Josh Gad as Le Fou. The cast as a whole was really good.I thought Emma Watson was kinda bland in the role of Belle. I know it's not really fair to compare, but I thought Belle in the original had more personality and was better.

It's just that I don't see going back to this, when I can just watch the original which is better and this doesn't offer anything good and fresh for me.

7/10

I saw this last night with friends, and I had fun with them. The quality of the film though? Sorry, it gets a "meh" or a "it was okay?" from me. I didn't hate it, but I thought the pacing was off, most of the singing was underwhelming, and the two lead characters were the weakest link for me.

Pardon the pun, but this never had any hope of holding a candle to the original film for me in the first place ... But I feel even stronger about that after seeing it.

PROS:
- There were some very good ideas presented in this movie, but I thought they were too rushed or glossed over to the point where it felt like padding (so I guess this is a combo of a pro and a con).

- I LOVED how the Enchantress' curse was spread out to not only the castle, but the kingdom as well. It explains so much, and it makes perfect sense.

- The supporting characters. I felt nothing for Belle or the Beast at the end of the movie ... But the servants turning into lifeless antiques? Tear my heart apart, why don't ya. And Josh Gad's Le Fou was great, too (and the whole "controversy" surrounding him? It was a big, fat nothingburger).

- The "je ne sais quoi" joke. This got the biggest laugh from me in the entire film. :funny: I just felt like making a note of this.

- "Evermore." Standout song of the entire film. I love the melody and the lyrics, and the singing is quite good ... But I'm going to have to stick with the Josh Groban version, as the autotune for the Beast prevented this song from being GREAT for me.

CONS:
- I'm sorry, but ... Emma Watson as Belle. Weakest link of the movie for me. Not only did she have the worst singing voice (in an already underwhelming vocal cast), but her Belle completely lacked the warmth that I've come to expect from that character. This Belle fell flat for me.

- The Beast. While I did like him more than Belle, he also fell kinda flat for me. I didn't feel that he and Emma Watson had any chemistry. I am also pretty ticked that it was Mrs. Potts who exclaimed that the Beast was in love. The "Because ... I love her" is one of my FAVORITE lines from the original. Not only did they botch that scene in this, but the Beast actually never says it himself in this movie. Only Belle professes her love. I'm sorry, but this really bothers me.

- Again, the singing was underwhelming. And I find it insulting that Audra McDonald (by far, the most talented singer in this cast) was given only 6 lines to sing. Those six lines stood out, though. I was really ticked off that she started singing the "Beauty & The Beast" finale, only to be cut off by a subpar vocalist like Emma Thompson. GTFOutta here, movie.

- I thought the pacing was very off with this movie. It felt like a movie with a lot of stuff thrown in for the sake of it, and thus making a lot of things feel either rushed or underdeveloped. Like I said in my "pros" section, this movie did actually have a lot of good ideas, but most of those ideas ended up leading to nowhere. Meh.

This is not the worst Disney remake in the slightest. It's not "Alice in Wonderland" or "Maleficent" bad. I'd be lying if I said I liked this more than the "Cinderella" and "Jungle Book" remakes, though. Like I said, this doesn't hold a candle to the original (which I just watched again, for the 100,000,000th time), but I don't think it flat-out "disgraced" the original film either (except for maybe the underwhelming singing). I don't regret seeing it, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to see again.

Yep this is going this be the Jurassic World of 2017. The fangirls and fanboys will be split on it, the reviews are decent instead of very good and it's going to be an unbelievable smash hit that audiences like more than both of those groups.

Agreed.

The audience at my theater went nuts over this movie. Huge applause at the end; even the young children in the audience were well-behaved the entire time (which tells me the movie kept their attention).

I like this better than Jurassic World. But this is kinda like Skull Island. An inoffensive popcorn flick yet so average and by the numbers. But Batb is quite afeel good movie especially with that ending. It is just so weird that I felt bad for the talking things more than Beast at the end. I actually didnt care about Beast at the end, I just felt bad what happened to the others and I only watch to rewatch those moments but not to seethe actual leads of the movie. And the new stuff (Paris & Beast's childhood) were undercooked.

I agree with Emma Watson being flat as Belle. She's too polished as Belle.

Also like Jurassic World, in about six months time folks will see it again on TV screens instead of epic movie theater experiences, and with the thrill of sudden nostalgia gone will be like... "Was that it? How did I like it THAT much?!" ;)

You are probably right though. I guess I gave Jurassic World more of a pass though, because it was upfront that it was a big, goofy, and derivative sequel that was cashing in on nostalgia like the market was about to collapse.

Beauty and the Beast is a straight up remake of a masterpiece and brings very little new to the table, so as a result I am just judging it harsher for how poorly it is imitating the superior original. But they are both "harmless" fun that aren't terrible. I just think the remake status made every flaw in the BatB remake stand out more.

Still, I liked Jurassic World in the theater. Then I saw it again almost a year later on HBO and was cringing at how silly and contrived a corporate experience the whole thing is.

This movie is going to be cleaning up the B.O over the next couple weeks. Damn.

I liked Jurassic World for what it is, a dumb movie about Dinosaurs killing people. I have BATB on the docket so I'll tell you guys how that goes when I see it.

Oh yeah, huge. I never doubted that. But then, I thought BvS was gonna be huge.

I can't wait to see how Power Rangers, Life and Ghost in the Shell will perform.

Anyway, I am more interested to see more Disney remakes than those shared universe featuring dinosaurs, monsters, robots that Wb, Universal, Paramount and Universal are cooking up.

I want to see a Sleeping Beauty remake. I loathe Maleficent the movie.
