:thud:would never have expected that but really glad you liked it harles

I love Jason but 1. he shaved and therefore BETRAYED ME 2. this is just such a tremendous accomplishment of a movie, nothing even compares to it. I am insane but not insane enough not to give it its due. I did cry during Aquaman when Kkidman came back at the end but here I was a mess it probably has to do with me
having a crush on RDJ ever since he sang Every Breath you take in Ally McBeal when I was 11 years old llol

High praise indeed for EG, really pleased you liked it  :-)

Ok so, just giving some quick thoughts, will post something longer Monday

So yea, I f***ing loved it. Definitely need to see it again to process everything but first impressions were fantastic.

Some pros:
Cap with the hammer
The journey to 2012
All of Antman
The entire third act

And my few cons:
Fat Thor- his arc was good but it looked like the goddam nutty professor at times
Falcon Cap- Not a fan for reasons ive laid out many times here

I also wanna say the crowd was great and this was my best theater experience since Avengers 1.

Gunna gather my thoughts and follow up on this when I have more time.

You implied that those who like Endgame are simply sheep following along with everyone else. Apparently unaware that others don't hold the same opinion as you.
And again, I only said that because I made a comment what I was hoping to see to other members who think the same as I did, and unfortunately people like yourself can't live up to your own rules and claim it's a good thing I am not a script writer or that my expectations were stupid. Go back and read the threat, I was attacked first and I retaliated, so again, who is the one that is unaware that others won't hold the same opinion as them? Maybe you are all butt hurt because deep down, you know I am right about this movie. It's all flash and no substance.

Btw, something that I saw someone say about Steve Rogers that I thought was fascinating to think about:
At first, while really cool, it doesn't make sense that Steve could just go back in time and that this very same Steve would also exist in the present without creating a separate timeline, all things given the explanation for time travel provided... UNLESS, Steve married Peggy all along. In other words, the kids that Peggy had in WS were actually time-travelling Steve's kids (WS Steve wouldn't have known that at the time) and old Steve was co-existing with present day Steve, but always in the background as not to get in the way of affairs. Now, I am not sure if this theory holds up to scrutiny, but I really like it.

No I think it's a splinter timeline, Peggy still had another family in original timeline but when Steve came back to her it created alternate timeline and they were together there

Endgame was a massive disappointment for me.

  • Thor was absolutely butchered by this film. His arc from Ragnarok/Infinity War goes out the window in favour of having him abandon what's left of his people to become an overweight, alcoholic slob who's the butt of half the film's jokes. And yet he's still somehow worthy? If they wanted to make him weaker and more vulnerable there were so many better ways they could've done that (make him lose hope and become unworthy, have him lose control of his lightning due to PTSD, have him lose Stormbreaker or a limb in the opening fight with Thanos etc)
  • The real Thanos is anti-climactically killed 20 minutes into the film, without even putting up a fight. The new Thanos from 2014 is a way more 2 dimensional villain who has no history with the heroes and now wants to wipe out all life.
  • Hulk doesn't get a single fight scene. He gets his moment undoing the snap but I would've loved to see an enraged Hulk give Thanos a serious challenge.
  • Spider-Man is still an in over his head rookie who has to be rescued by his Stark suit.
  • Iron Man had the best story arc but they could've made it way more interesting by forcing him to choose between his new family and undoing the snap
  • Cap got an okay but very predictable send off. His moment with Mjolnir was cool, although having him quit the Avengers by lying that he's just going to time travel to return the stones seems very out of character for him.
  • Most other characters were handled okay and maybe got a cool moment but barely get any development.

I'm also still confused about all the timeline and lore issues.

  • The snap survivors are five years older than everyone that was brought back? The world itself is presumably still five years older and messed up by five years of disrepair?
  • The Ancient One was very clear that removing the Infinity Stones from her timeline would be catastrophic because they're fundamental to the universe. If so, why were there no consequences when Thanos destroyed all six?
  • If Mjolnir just helped Thor control and focus his lightning powers and was never his source of strength then how does Cap summon lightning when he wields it
  • We're told that MCU time travel creates alternate timelines. Thanks to the Avengers there's now an alternate timeline where Hydra think Cap's joined them and Loki's alive and has the space stone. There's also another alternate timeline where Thanos and his army went missing in 2014 and Peter Quill was KO'd by War Machine and left for dead before he found the power stone.
  • Cap visited both of the above alternate timelines and returned the soul stone to Red Skull, left the power stone for Ronan, put the Reality Stone back inside Jane Foster etc?
  • Cap somehow broke the rules of MCU time travel (see above) and went back to live a full life with Peggy in the main MCU timeline. Does this retcon previous films? Or did he live under the radar and Peggy's dementia/"Steve you're alive, it's been so long" scene in Winter Soldier was some kind of act?
  • Nerd Hulk decided not to resurrect Vision, Heimdall, Quicksilver etc for some reason?
  • Were all the people who died indirectly because of the snap (in plane crashes, on operating tables etc) brought back too or did they stay dead?
  • Why did Doctor Strange think there was no other way? Now we've seen the whole thing play out it just seems illogical. We never get an answer to why Strange doesn't just prevent Star Lord from screwing things up on Titan or use his portals to go tell Thor to go for the head.
  • Previous films repeatedly told us it takes immensely powerful beings to wield the Infinity Stones and even this film has Hulk and Thor argue over who'll take the risk and Hawkeye, Panther etc running round with the completed gauntlet presumably because they can't wield it. But suddenly Iron Man can snap away Thanos entire army and live long enough to say goodbye to Rhodey/Spidey/Pepper?

I wish I was one of the fans that loved Endgame but I'm not.

Agreed on all of your assessments. Truth is, apparently our heroes are quite dumb. Doctor Strange should have just gone to Thor when he was in Wakanda and tell him to go for the head.

Yep, this is the way I saw it.

I really enjoyed this movie, I need to see it again to better gather my thoughts

Big Lebowski Thor was odd. Cap with the hammer was awesome, he probably knew he could lift it since Age of Ultron. I loved Nebula and Nebula. I just wished that for the big climactic battle which was freaking awesome, but had Daredevil, Iron Fist, or even the Agents of SHield etc. walked out of one of the portals I would have completely lost my sh--. I was happy I went in spoiler free and was cool to see Professor Hulk, and Valkyrie telling him she liked him better either of the other ways lol. I'm confused by the Spidey paradox, been 5 years but he goes back to high school, and Ned and MJ are still there? I liked Falcon getting the SHield, but how exactly did Steve start aging all of a sudden? Whatever I still loved all of it

As for the 5 years later and Peter, the only explanation I can think of is ALL of Peter's classmates/the ones who will be in FFH were dusted with him, thus making it okay for them to live in 2024.

Wouldn't

Peggy know? She would have mentioned her kids and grandkids being his

The time travel thing is a bit confusing but I don't understand why people are angry about Cap's ending. The man fought so hard and he never had a life. He deserves one. That was a lovely ending for him.

The thing of it is, deserve has little to do with it when it comes to Steve Rogers. That is what bothered me about his decision. Rogers' moral compass makes it difficult to believe he would put his own desires above those of others.

That's what I think as well.
Your way makes more sense in relation to how The Ancient One explained things to Banner on the rooftop.

But that doesn't explain how that splintered timeline Old Cap showed up at the end there on the bench..

I saw it. Glad I did, but I have no desire to see it in the theater again. Not going to post here too much, as I suspect as the movie settles for me, it is going to sound like I hate the movie. I liked it, didn't love it, but still feel more positive about the movie even as I find myself finding more things to be dissatisfied with the movie.

One would assume
She and Steve would've talked about it after they first reunited. She would know not to tell his younger self.

Of course, given her condition in Winter Soldier, I very much doubt Steve would have believed her. I doubt she would have been able to keep track.

I remember you really didn’t like IW right? Does that mean you preferred EG after first viewing?

That is very much how I feel. Once I got by the sheer spectacle of the work and had a moment to reflect on it, the movie's structure weakened quite a bit.

But that doesn't explain how that splintered timeline Old Cap showed up at the end there on the bench..

I was about to say,
since he had the device on his arm that they used to pinpoint where they were going in time maybe he made sure to return to his original timeline after Peggy passed away. Then I realized all his work and deeds in the past films would have never happened in the original timeline we've been watching the past decade.
Unless I'm missing something else.

Time travel...
when movies use it I usually always just roll with it and not overthink things because you always get these issues.

Also, after watching IW, there were 3 things that I hoped would happen (and all 3 happened, so that made me happy).

IW's ending gave me such a Leftovers vibe, that I was hoping EG would follow through on a couple of narrative elements:

1) That time would pass since the snap. So, not only was it 3 weeks later at the outset, but then it goes to 5 years later. I was like, "Yes!" when I saw that on screen. I really wanted there to be stakes to the snap. Fixing it all a couple of weeks later doesn't give it the impact a time jump would have. And then we get to see how it affected the world. The stuff with Scott Lang walking around confused, seeing the kid ride by on the bike, the kid looks back after Scott asked him what was going on, the kid just has this look on his face and then keeps going, Scott going to the memorial looking for his daughter's name, then seeing his daughter who aged... all really well done and helped further ground the consequences of the snap, which was important to me since this was something that was brewing for years. I'm glad they went more grounded for this part of the movie rather than for humor. Paul Rudd was great here.

2) That the time travel (which I expected would be part of the story) didn't undo everything, that people would still be left with the trauma of what happened. And I'm glad they didn't take the easy way out. Those who remained, even after everyone came back, they still will remember the 5 years; those who were brought back, they will have to adjust to a world and loved one's who had to move on. So I am glad they didn't just take the easy way out here. Once I saw that Tony had a daughter, I figured/hoped that this would further put this idea into play. I do wish, though, that we got to see more of the world's reaction to everyone coming back. If you show us the world in disarray, then show us some bits of the world rejoicing/in shock as people come back. It is, after all, the point of why the Avengers did all that they did. It's a gripe I have with a lot of movies that forget to show the result of the success.

3) Going with The Leftover's vibe, I was hoping Clint's whole family would be gone, not just some of them, but all of them. It would both show what he's gone through, but also more of the consequences that those who weren't even in IW were affected around the world as it happened. That they started with this scene was great, imo.

Just some hopes I had going into the movie that they did follow through on.

Yeah, I very much don't like Infinity War. And to stress, it doesn't mean its a bad movie. Just not a movie for me. Which isn't surprising, since I haven't been super excited by Phase 2 and 3 movies, in general.

But yes, I will likely sound like I hate Endgame, but I actually liked it, and in general more positive than negative about it.
