Episode 9.04 - Casting Sides

so over on ksite some people noticed they seemed to goof on how old ollie is, saying he is only 25 which he should be more like 28/29.

at what part of the episode did they state he is 25 years old?

when he said his parents died when he was 5 so 2009-1989 is 20 yrs. Though that is a bit off cause he and lex are roughly the same age per past episodes flash backs and all that and lex was around 28-29yrs old when he went kaboom. Also lex i believe was roughly 21/22 yrs old at the start of the series.

yea oh well its not the first mistake, many shows do it all the time, and its hard even for all writers/producers to remember every fine detail of things. Its not like they are watching the old episodes when ever like we fans who can spot these mistakes.

On another note does any one have a good screen cape of the lex reflection?

Another solid episode .

one point I'd like to make, You know how Toyman created a Toy version of himself with a bomb in this episode ? Well I believe Lex did the same . Meaning the Lex we saw blown up in "Requiem" wasn't the real Lex Luthor it was a fake double .

yea now we have another theory to go with, either you got real lex was in the truck and he is really dead, it was a clone in the truck and real lex is elsewhere, lex is dead but could return via black magic..., and now we have it could have been a robot and real lex is alive.

Is it too much to ask for Toyman and Metallo working together in the same episode down the line?

Another solid episode and it does seem the budget has been raised or put to better use. Bryan Miller is awesome in my eyes, and needs to do as many episodes as possible.

Personally I like Ollie when hes doing superhero stuff, but I can see why he is down and out. So Clark can be a helping friend by not giving up on him and look good.

Another thing, Chloe WTF is going on?

Im not talking about her character, Im talking about how minimal the producers decide to use her. Did she even have 5 minutes worth of screen time? That seems about her average for the season. Its not secret that Allison might decide to move on since her contract it up, but you don't have to kick her when she is down.

Fans of Chloe have been screaming for the producers to bring "old Chloe" of season 1-3 back so they did. Now she is on for 5 minutes an episode giving plot exposition. lol

Here is the screentime for all characters

yes, you do. I encourage it.

I like it too.

well this episode wasnt meant to be a more chloe focus episode it was ollie/toyman story, so chloe wasnt needed much. Sure would be nice if she was in episode a little more. But i know alot of fans dont like how much she was used in episodes season 5-8 and all that. But that is a problem the show has had over the years trying to give each character equal footing.

My issue with Chloe wasn't how much she was used, it was how. They basically shoehorned her into Clark's heroics role, which did no favors for his character. It basically felt like the producers were catering to her shipper fanbase to make the character more important then she ever should have been(ie she should have been the BFF, but not as much a sidekick).

What a great episode

I was sceptical about the hearing peoples thoughts, however I thought it being introduced was very appropriately done. I could accept something similar as definitive cannon for helping Clark to better develop the mental side of being Superman as well as being a Kryptonian

I loved the Lois & Clark moments from start to finish, particularly when Clark's listening to her thoughts :D
In addition I also liked Oliver in this episode.. I didn't find him as irritating as he has been for me since the start of the season, I found him quite tolerable.

Toyman was an excellent choice for this type of episode, Toyman is quite an unpredictable villian & was probably the perfect starting villian for Clark to attempt to read/figure out what his next move would be

I'd have to say this episode was one of my favourites of the show since it started & I'm glad they are following through with more training based episodes, they should have done some of these around season 4 when he first discovered the fortress but then again, better late than never as they say

I hope Toyman revives Metallo and both try to get revenge on Clark by the end of the season

Loved it. Although I do think they are dragging out Oliver's storyline much longer than they need to.

Erica gets more delicious with each episode.

yea i do have to agree there at times once chloe became secret keeper it was a bit much. But there is other times i thought their little group was good.

According to Matt Mitovich on Twitter Echo scored around 2.62million. Tvbythenumbers has yet to post the official over night numbers.

like that Clark is being more proactive/supermanly and like all the superman scene

Toyman was excelent

Oliver trying to not become like Lex was great(thought Ollie was 8-10 when his parents died but didn't mind that much)

Chloe was interesting

Lois was really downplayed in this episode and Clark not appearing the date was messed up(but the reason was noble so I frogive that)

4.5/5

yea we all know smallville is never 100% correct on some little fact here or there. Sure some writers/directors still with the show were around for most of the early days. But we dont know if they remember even fine detail from over 170+ episodes. Its not likely in their spare time they watch old episodes all the time. But still pretty good episode. And we got the best numbers of the season so far.

Ollie got the same screen time Chloes got in 3 episodes to Chloes 4. Lois has more than double. I personally don't really care for her character anymore, I just don't think it might have been smart to bring her back for the sake of bringing her back. Where budget is always a concern for this show. Allison must really think shes got a lot of time on her hands...

It was more of a L&C type episode imo, which is a good thing (to me at least). They are starting to do the same type of Clark power gags, which is also cool.

For some reason I also thought of the dating scenario in the office setting was a bit similar heh
