Arrow Episode 9: Year's End - Discussion/Rate & Review Thread

I just like that they stuck to him beating Ollie in their first encounter. It gives Ollie a legitimate threat finally in the modern day story (the only other character to really give him problems has been Deathstroke in the flashbacks).

Totally called it on the Black Archer's identity. To be fair, the episode did do a good job at crafting a suspects list. I knew it was either Malcolm, Deathstroke, or Yao Fei. Deathstroke seemed least likely, as we in the audience still don't know much about him so the reveal would've been almost meaningless. Yao Fei, on the other hand, would've been quite the kick in the pants.

Okay episode. Best part was easily the Black Archer's fight due to how brutal they made it. But also some bad lines.

At least the Black Archer knows how to disguise himself.

Green Arrow finally has a threat in Merlyn the Dark Archer.

I'm glad that Oliver and Dinah didn't fall into the Smallville trap of will they/ won't they, but rather setting up the foundations of their relationship. Unfortunately, the opposite has happened with Oliver and Thea.

Yeah I caught a lot of those and last week had some too. Helena's "does it come in purple?" like Bruce's "does it come in black?" to Lucius in Begins. Or when Digg called Ollie and Ollie responded with "War." The same "War." Batman says in TDKR!

Tonights episode had bits of BB, TDK, and TDKR. Not mention a bit of Spiderman 1 with the whole Ollie/Peter, Dinah/MJ, Tommy/Harry triangle and with Archer/Norman/Green Goblin. Lol.

Great episode though. I'm really enjoying this show .

Ollie calling Diggle for help totally reminded me of Batman Begins after Bruce gets fear gased in the narrows and Alfred comes for him.

I hope the cops, press, bad guys, ect do start calling him the green arrow in the show.

Glad Walter is still alive I like him.

So did I read it wrong, or is it actually Moira who compiled the list? And Oliver will soon realize the person he is fighting is his own mother?

i thought this was a great episode. the fight with GA and Merlyn was amazing. I like the league of shadows hint.

No poll again!:argh:

This was among the best of the season for me.They didn't quite over-do the soap, this time.(But I admit,Thea is becoming a bit annoying.)Plenty of action.Merlyn was awesome in action and Deathstroke!:wow:

I think the show-runners anticipated our griping over the term "Hood-Guy" and so forth, leading them to address it in the show.:funny: Hopefully a name emerges after the mid-season break.

Great cliff hanger.I'm looking forward to the show's speedy return.:oldrazz:

Isn't it the Dark Archer and not the Black Archer which people keep on saying. Another good episode, Merlyn has a wicked costume. Someone should start a picture thread, I would but I don't know how (pretty pathetic after years posting here). Marc Guggenheim posted some concept art of Merlyn's costume on his twitter feed.

Anyone see the similarity with him calling in on the radio after getting beaten just like Bruce did in BB after getting attacked by Scarecrow?

dude, there were about 10 moments in this episode that were straight up from the TDK trilogy.

I think Oliver is actually Jonathan Crane.... "Do what most people do.... Call the police" :lmao:

oh and after his Bane...err.... Dark Archer beating... he has a cane.... has to rebuild himself... maybe Bruce lends him his magic leg brace

Loved this ep, the showdown between Arrow and the Dark Archer was really well shot and the brutal beat-down Ollie got leaves no doubt he has a genuine nemesis. It'll be interesting to get some back story on Merlyn and his choice to create a rival identity to Oliver as it goes beyond merely taking out a problem.

The island flashbacks were good as well and I think they tried to make the viewer believe Fei (clearly too short) might be the Dark Archer, especially once the comment was made about why he was on the island prison. I'm guessing the explanation of what the island is being so simply revealed was what Amell was referring to in his recent interview. Deathstroke vs Fei II was good and they have created a real menacing aura around Deathstroke.

I felt Walter was a goner when Moira said she'd tell him everything but I'm glad he's not. I think Felicity will investigate his disappearance and this will lead to her ending up on Ollie's team.

I'm hoping the scene with Ollie and Thea at the end is a step forward for that relationship and we get more scenes like them in the diner and less of the petulant acting out stuff. The final shot was ideal for a mid-season finale and very comic booky.

Hopefully we won't have an emotional Diggle lecturing Ollie about how he shouldn't be Green Arrow anymore.Lol.

The calling alfred scene came to mind
as well as the dinner table mocking of his alter ego.

Another to add to the batman list was the new Commissioner who reminded me of Loeb in BB/TDK

Big missed opportunity to finally drop the whole stupid "Hood" nonsense. Seeing as how the police commissioner was at the dinner party, he could have overheard Merlyn suggest "Green Arrow", and at the news conference drop the name there.

Well he did say to Q. Lance that Hood is a stupid title, i think by season 2 or in the second half of season 1 he will be called Green Arrow or Arrow.

Lots of BB,TDK and TDKR refrences, similarities, you name it.

Oliver calling Dig for help = BB
Dark Archer's threat of killing the hostages unless Green Arrow reveals himself = TDK
Oliver vs Archer = TDKR

its nice to see how Nolan has affected pretty much everything, from James Bond to Green Arrow etc but i think it will get annoying after a while.

even the overhead shots of the city are similar to the Dark Knight.

I thought it was a little lame that Ollie said "Green Arrow" was a lame name.

Why are the writers soooo afraid to name ANYONE? :P

I think he gets some kind of pleasure out of this.

In fairness, it was *****ey over-privileged son Oliver Queen saying it was lame, as opposed to the 'real' Oliver Queen.

I still think it's neat cause he's Captain Jack Harkness.
